$198,000 Disney wedding at Sams club?!?

If I had the money (and the guy...) I'd do it in a heartbeat. I've been through A LOT in my short 30 years. If I'm ever able to get married, I would consider it a blessing and honestly, it would be the biggest day of my life after everything I've had to overcome. Why shouldn't I do it big? You only get one chance to make those memories. If that's what someone wants and they can afford it, go for it!!!!!!

Having recently priced a MK wedding, this isn't shocking. Especially since you're getting David to "plan" your wedding. As much as I love MK and would do almost anything to get married there, WOW. Not happening.

We opted for an at home wedding with a loooong Disney-moon after!!

Another NY'er here....everyone I know easily has spent near 50K if not more on their wedding...its all relative!
Would you pay $25. for a burger for lunch? Well, many do that too!

TO those that can pay 200K for a wedding...it usually means they HAVE the money and they are also the ones that take 20K vacations each year...I say
More power to them....whatever works for you...
I have a niece that was "gifted" her first class three week honeymoon to Hawaii, island hopping.....Just GUESS what that cost...I was told it was MORE than her wedding cost :rotfl2: SO, once again, if you have it, they spend it!
Work hard PLAY HARD, thats my motto! :thumbsup2

Its when you CAN'T afford it but do it ANYWAY...to fit in or feel good etc... that is the issue!!

It's crazy. Who in their right mind would do that? You could have a week long wedding around here for that kind of cash!

50 guests, ceremony, wedding planner, photographer, dessert party, 4 nights for couple at the Grand Floridian. All for $198,000 at Sams Club. REALLY? Am I that out of touch?

...wow, for THAT price, the wedding probably could have taken place AT THE GRAND FLORIDIAN!

:lmao: LOL Native NY'er here.
My dh and I thought we were getting a bargain when we found a nice house for $400,000 outside of Philly.

.....:rolleyes1 sooooo, who did YOU root for: the YANKEES or the Phillies???? ;)

Why? :confused3

Stop hating ladies. If you've got that kind of money why is it a waste? Most millionaires aren't really struggling with their 401K's even in this economy. I've got a couple of friends who are wall street brokers and believe me, they spend 30K smoozing clients over the weekend.

Who do you think is out there buying multimillion dollar condos?

I never understood the mentality of the hate against rich people. If you can afford 200K in giant jaw breakers and you get the money legally, then you know what go for it. I see that on the budget board alot. Some one complaining because some one else spent 20K on a disney vacation.

Brides spending that kind of money keep a lot of people employed.

I have to agree, if a family CAN afford it, then why not? It is their money afterall. I myself wouldn't use that much money but if someone would want to and they have the money to do it without affecting the rest of their funds, they can knock themselves out.

All I have to say is that I am so glad that you can have a lovely Disney wedding for MUCH less than the $200K Sam's wedding package. That cost doesn't surprise me for a MK wedding, but I'm just glad Disney has less expensive choices for the rest of us, LOL!

We were thinking of doing a Disney wedding, and I did the pricing online. It was pricey but it was not $200,000. I would of loved to see my fiance's face if I told it was that much.

I agree that people can spend their money on whatever they want to, but can you really blame people for thinking this is excessive? Especially in this economy when so many people are struggling to just put food on the table and a roof over their heads. I would feel so guilty to be throwing away money like that. Just for ONE DAY. The only thing that makes me feel a little better about people spending huge amounts of money on stuff is that it at least the money is going back into the economy. Again, I know that people can do whatever they want with their money, but IN MY OPINION spending $100K+ on a wedding is ridiculous.

And, btw, this should be a whole new thread but I AM a little bitter about rich people because many of them are no better, or smarter, or hard-working than the average person. Some of them really earn what they have, but many of them are just lucky and fell into the right job/profession or they happened to have rich parents who could send them to the right schools, or they even were just born into a family with money and do NOTHING for it. And many of them are just sleazy and dishonest and make their money doing things that aren’t in any way productive and, as we have painfully learned over the last couple of years, sometimes very harmful to society. And then they just love to flaunt their riches while other people are suffering. Phew, glad I got that off my chest.

OK, I totally misunderstood the title of this topic and I thought some couple had a Disney themed wedding at a Sam's Club. :rolleyes1:rotfl:

This package does sound pretty fabulous though for someone with a lot of money.

We loved ours! It's not for everybody, but if it's something you two think you'd really love, then you should look into it. There are many ways to make it not ridiculous in price. Our wedding was almost 6 years ago, but in all honesty I don't think it cost any more than it would have if we had gotten married in our hometown (especially since we would've had to have a much larger guest list at home).

I really don't think it is necessarily the price of the display that gets under people's skin. I do happen to think it is the big fat spectacle of it that is crude. Isn't money SUPPOSED to be a private issue. Whether we have it or not, huge displays of socio-economic status on either side make people uncomfortable. Class is about making everyone comfortable. Watching a gigantic spectacle of what should be, to me, a private covenant between a couple intended to last life time is cheap, I don't care if it costs $15 or $15,000,000.

Of course, a wedding, like any party, is a huge celebration. But shouldn't the celebration be limited to the people who choose to be a part of it? What's next? Will I be forced to sing happy birthday to some rich couple's kid as she gets her very on parade on Main Street on my kid's birthday or will WDW sell out space on their tickets to announce Richie Rich's College graduation? Seriously, some people do not like reality TV like spectacles ans I am one of them... it's in very poor taste and my feelings have zero to do with money. SOME things should just be private and not forced on other people.

I have to disagree.

While some people may have inherited wealth someone in their families past had to work very hard for that money. A lot of people who have inherited wealth still went to college whether or not they ever had to put it to use.

Being smarter may have little to do with acquiring wealth but higher education has a lot to do with income levels.

Some people are sleazy, dishonest and unproductive but to say that it is a majority of people in one income group is not at all realistic. Unfortunately those traits can be found across all income levels.

Just my POV.

I agree. My parents might be considered wealthy by some, but they are in no way entitled. They earned their money, they made tough but smart decisions and they deserve to enjoy the fruits of their labor now. I don't think most people are rich because they had better circumstances, they are rich because they made different choices. We live very near a college that is extremely hard to get into, and privilege is given to children of alumni at admission. I hear lot's of bitter remarks about how they got there because of daddy. Well that may be true, but in order to succeed they still have to work really hard and sacrifice a LOT during four years that for a lot of other kids are filled with more parties than studies.

I agree & frankly -- if you want to get technical you don't need *any* wedding, so anything spent beyond the legal requirement of the state (so say $20 for the marriage license & however much it is for someone official to sign it) -- can be looked at as excessive. It all depends on what you make, where you live, etc... as to the subjectiveness of excessive. There are so many things that the same thing could be said about.

Someone making $500,000/year may not consider this excessive as say someone making $20,000/year.

It sounds to me this is like that wedding they did several years ago that pretty much was pre-planned and the bride & groom were just plopped into it vs. getting much say into what they wanted. I think it had orange? sashes on the dress. It was promoting the couture weddings & I believe the person won it.

:lmao: I totally agree with your post.

I have to disagree, there are alot of millionaires in this country and we only heard about a handful doing illegal and dishonest things in the last few years so I think to say many of them is a bit off.

If a millionaire decides to spend $200K on a wedding, that is a small fraction of their money. Now, take a poor person and watch them spend $10 on a pack of smokes when all they have is $20 to their name and they've spent exactly half of all of their money.....I'm not judging either person but I think it's a little silly how some poor people spend their money as well. But to each their own.

I certainly wouldn't spend that kind of money - WDW or not - but based on the things I've seen on "Platinum Brides", some people might consider it a "bargain"..

.....:rolleyes1 sooooo, who did YOU root for: the YANKEES or the Phillies???? ;)

LOL

I'm the only girl in a house with a dh from Philly and 3 sons. For some reason my lovely brothers from 153rd st. Manhattan decided to come watch the Philly games I my house. :rotfl:

There were nights I wanted to move to Boise!!

secret yankee fan though...sssh

If I had that kind of money, I sure as heck would've spent it on a WDW wedding in ridiculous excess. Yup...I said it. I would do it.

However, I have SEEN first hand, the parade float garage (it's behind Splash Mountain). Not xactly an inspiring or romantic locale. How exactly they gonna spice up that turd-burger?
