1900 Park Fare/GF Cafe Question

When is the GF Cafe going to take over for 1900 Park Fare with the characters? I know this is temporary, but does anyone know when it begins or if it has already begun?

I was told the characters will still be there. Has anyone heard any different? This is the only reason I am keeping my adr. Thanks

Yes, it's still a character meal with the same characters as before.

We get back on the 22nd so if no one else has posted I'll let you know our take on it, although to be fair I am quite a picky eater...but my husband is not, so I can ask him.....

Someone on another board answered this question with this:

The food on the Pre-plated meals are brought out to you, but you can get seconds or thirds if you like. They'll just keep brining you food everytime you ask. Buffets you have to go select what you want on yourself and you can make multiple trips. For Family style they bring out the food on platters and you serve yourself like at home. If your platter runs out and you want more just ask and they'll bring it.

At this point with the free dinin plan, it is almost impossible to change, so even if it is bad, which I doubt, we all might have to keep it. I am a dvc member so free dining is not happening for us, but it is making me a little upset that I cannot as a paying dining plan member that I cannot get any ressies, they should have kept some open for the paying folks. good luck to everyone and enjoy your disney trips.

Well... just because some of got the free dining doesn't mean it's totally free. I gave up a great room discount because free dining was a little less expensive in the long run. In my book that doesn't make it completely free, I have to subtract at a minimum the discount I gave up, and maybe even the tickets I need to buy to get the package because we have APs, though we'll probably use them at some point in the future.

Anyhow, I don't think reserving time slots is the answer. Disney really needs to either A) open more TS restaurants, B) sell fewer dining plan packages, C) both.

I haven't had much trouble changing my ADRs for late September though. Some things aren't available, lots of places have nothing for dinner, but I'm willing to do my TS at lunch so I have been able to get what I wanted for the most part. I just made a Chef Mickey's lunch ADR and another for Crystal Palace within the last couple of days and got exactly what I wanted. I also changed my Jiko dinner with no problem, but that one is 2 TS so that's probably why it's easier.

Surely we'll get some reviews soon with it being the weekend now. I am actually fine with the menu as there is something to suit everyone in our family and I love the GFC atmosphere. I can't wait to hear the first reviews!
