1900 Park Fare/GF Cafe Question

As I understood it breakfast was all you care to eat, dinner was not. I could be mistaken though.

I thought both were all you can eat. We have August ressies here for dinner, so I guess we'll find out soon!

We also have ADR's for this in August- I was disappointed it wasn't the buffet as I had been told I must try it but I still think the girls ( 6 yr old twins) will still love it!

I hope you're right! We're not big eaters, but I might want a second bowl of strawberry soup, and or extra dessert... extra dessert is tough to pass up, LOL.

just thought i would let you know what the CMs told me yesterday and today (I am calling every day as I am trying to get a new dinner reservation, but just keep checking to see if anything changes) re GF cafe character dinner - it is not an all you can eat. it is only an appetizer, an entree and desert and drink. i even specifically asked and said I know it is pre plated - not buffet - but if we wanted more of a certain thing could we ask for more like at Liberty Tree Tavern or teh Land and all the ones i have talked to have said no (one did say, well you can of course get more drinks)- it is just one thing. We have changed our meal because of this as my husband is not excited about paying more than most meals for a choice from very few things and no refills.

if i hear different ( I am calling almost everyday trying to get in at Ohana's or Chef Mickeys around 7:30 or 8 if anyone has a reservation tehy are going to cancel -hint hint-) anyway if i hear different i will post - but i call and ask daily.

For those who have been to both Park Fare and Grand Floridian; which restaurant looks better from the inside(characters aside)?

We have been to Park Fare for breakfast many years ago and thought the decor was very plain and boring. Now, if Grand Floridian is a better looking restaurant, than we might just give it a try for dinner.

I think GFC has more character than 1900 PF, JMO. It sort of reminded me of a sunroom or sunporch... lots of windows, light and airy feeling. It's pretty but nothing spectacular, no real theme that I could discern. I don't think it would be worth a visit just for the decor, but it's pleasant enough if you're going for the characters or because it's a convenient place to dine.

We'll be going even without all you care to eat. As I mentioned before, we're not big eaters anyway. It would have been nice to know the option of seconds was available, but I don't need it and probably wouldn't have wanted more anyway. As for cost, we're on the DDP, but since we won't leave hungry I would have paid it even if we weren't. $29 for an appetizer, entree, drink and dessert seems in line with WDW costs elsewhere. It would cost far more than that at many places even... no?

Oh well, I'm still not so patiently waiting for those reviews to roll in.

I think we have just gotten used to the ability to order more of something differnt should you not like what you got or just want more of one thing or hava a picky kid. Especially with a 6'9" husband and growing 4y.o. My husband pretty much just like meat, so he doesn't eat the veggies and sides and just gets more meat, more meat, more meat - or like at LTT he likes some of the meat, not others

My problem is the menu that I have seen and been told about by CM seems limited. THe menus is even more limited than the normal GFC menu - (that's why reviews would so awesome!!! - hint hint)

Only 4 Appetizers - Strawberry Soup, House Salad, Mushroom Trangolini, Spicey Shrimp over a grit cake - none of which my husban would eat - (now me I could eat strawberry soup till I die)

6 Entrees - Prime Rib with mashed potatoes and house vegetables, Shrimp Penne Pasta, Smoked Pork Loin with a mustard sauce, Pan-Seared Chicken Breast, Grilled Salmon Napoleon, Herb Marinated Tofu

and Dessert is one per table and it is a dessert tray with various mini-desserts.

The other problems was the Children's Menu which offerd only cut of carrots and celery or a fruit cup for apps and Penne Pasta with meatballs or chicken fingers with mashed potatoes, broccoli and carrots.​

Then the price stayed the same when they went from a buffet to plated (that is probaby part of my pickiness as a former Catering manager knowing food costs.)

It is still more expensve or the same as than the all you can eat (either buffet, family style or preplated that you can get as much as you want) - granted in some cases only a few dollars per person - but with a party of 10 it makes a difference (of course if we were on DDP this wouldn't be an issue, but the menu options and lack of refills was really our decision to change)

GFC may work wonderful for some - I understand teh space issues wouldn't allow for a buffet, I just don't understand why they couldn't do the family style or refills... just my 2 cents (and that is probably all it is worth )

Yes.

Were my DH going along this trip he would by far prefer the buffet. Like your DH he's a big meat eater and likes to get a variety too. The family style meals like LTT are our favorites. He gets all you care to eat and a variety, I don't have to get up and down running back and forth to the buffet with plates for DD and I, LOL.

I also agree that this menu is pretty limited. I don't understand why they couldn't have given more options, especially on the kids menu. While my DD will be fine with what's offered, I'm actually hoping they get complaints and decide to add to the current menu. Two kids meals is not enough.

From the sounds of it this temporary switch is going to fail. It sounds as if many people are cancelling or totally avoiding the place during the refurb. The only ones there will be very non-picky people like me and people who couldn't get anything else.

If we were paying OOP, I may have considered switching to something else, but since it only "costs" one TS credit, and DD4 has a crush on the Prince, it's worth it for us! Hey, we were ok with H&V with the FDP, even paying OOP. Hopefully they'll be some reviews so we know what's good before we go. Honestly, its still cheaper than CRT, so I'd probably keep it if we were paying.

We're going in September, but the CM who booked us was confused, too. She called it "pre-plated", but then said, "if you are ordering a la carte (which if you choose an app and an entree, isn't that a la carte?) then it isn't, technically, "pre-plated", is it? She was a bit flustered, so I just finished the booking without causing her anymore stress!

My 2 DDs have some special dietary needs and so far, the menu looks OK for them, but I sure would like to see some reviews. I'm also a bit bummed that the price stayed the same, but I guess someone has to keep Cindy in glass slippers!

i am getting more "dis" apointed every time i read this ... we are thier the 8th of sept,, and love the GF 1900... thinking we should change... but where is the big question we arive that day and are doing AK .. ????? waiting for reviews

Is the limited menu a problem for you? If not then I'd stick with this. Availability is an issue in September anyway, with free dining many of the restaurants are booked solid. Hang in there and wait for some reviews.

I tried to change to Ohana's but no opeings until 9:30pm.
the same with Chef Mickey's. The only place with opeings is Concourse. So I am keeping it until something comes up. The dining Cm I just talked to said that the price of the Grand Gala Feast is now $35 for adults and $17 for kids. I told him he is incorrect and that is was $28 for adults and $13 for kids and said no it isn't and hung up on me. I think he is confused

Bumping to keep this on top. I have a ressie for the night of P&P Party. My DD is so excited about this character meal, that she wouldn't let me me change it even if I could. I am sure there's not much available in MK due to free dining on this night.
