Thanksgiving Week Trip
Cast includes me, Disney Nut 48 and my teen DSs. Dad stayed home!
We were on the dining plan.
1900 Park Faire
This was our last day at WDW so we headed out to the MK early to get in our last good-byes! We then took the monorail over to the GF for our late morning breakfast at 11 a.m.
Mary Poppins greeted us at the door and we had a very short wait until we were seated. Pooh, Tigger, Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter were present and circulating in the dining room. We were able to eat first since the characters seemed to be skirting us continually. Not to worry, a word to our attentive waitress brought them to us. I thought that the characters at Chef Mickey's have the "visiting" system down pat. They move from table to table in a very sequential manner. The set-up of this restaurant made that more difficult to do. We were more than happy, however with the attention we received, especially considering we were one adult and two teens! Alice and the Mad Hatter were particularly engaging!
Our server was quick to bring us some great orange juice along with milk for the boys and tea for me. The breakfast buffet was quite nice and we did not encounter any lines. The food was plentiful and fresh especially considering we had one of the latest reservations. There was a pastry/baked goods area that was not discovered by us until our second perusal of the food. It was on the far side of the serving area. I regretted not having any room for the sticky buns. They looked great! Strawberry soup was a stand-out. It was very tasty. I also loved the omelets to order! Fresh as could be and just the right size.
Service was commendable. Too often, our buffet server deserts us after bringing our initial beverages. Our waitress was attentive and very personable. We happily added an additional tip. She was especially sweet about guiding the characters to us after having been overlooked!
The Grand Floridian is a lovely lobby to visit, especially at the holidays. The life-size gingerbread house is just a wonder. Like the AKL, it is worth a trip for the extra features.
I am not a fan of buffets and while the food was good, it was not exceptional but not mediocre. We have done three character breakfasts, WL's Artist's Point now defunct Winne the Pooh and friends, the Contemporary's Chef Mickey's and GF's Park Faire. We enjoyed them all but the food was definitely superior at AP(discontinued) and Park Faire. It's worth doing at least one a trip especially if you love attention from the characters!
