Thanksgiving Week Trip

Cast includes me, Disney Nut 48 and my teen DSs. Dad stayed home!
We were on the dining plan.

1900 Park Faire

This was our last day at WDW so we headed out to the MK early to get in our last good-byes! We then took the monorail over to the GF for our late morning breakfast at 11 a.m.

Mary Poppins greeted us at the door and we had a very short wait until we were seated. Pooh, Tigger, Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter were present and circulating in the dining room. We were able to eat first since the characters seemed to be skirting us continually. Not to worry, a word to our attentive waitress brought them to us. I thought that the characters at Chef Mickey's have the "visiting" system down pat. They move from table to table in a very sequential manner. The set-up of this restaurant made that more difficult to do. We were more than happy, however with the attention we received, especially considering we were one adult and two teens! Alice and the Mad Hatter were particularly engaging!

Our server was quick to bring us some great orange juice along with milk for the boys and tea for me. The breakfast buffet was quite nice and we did not encounter any lines. The food was plentiful and fresh especially considering we had one of the latest reservations. There was a pastry/baked goods area that was not discovered by us until our second perusal of the food. It was on the far side of the serving area. I regretted not having any room for the sticky buns. They looked great! Strawberry soup was a stand-out. It was very tasty. I also loved the omelets to order! Fresh as could be and just the right size.

Service was commendable. Too often, our buffet server deserts us after bringing our initial beverages. Our waitress was attentive and very personable. We happily added an additional tip. She was especially sweet about guiding the characters to us after having been overlooked!

The Grand Floridian is a lovely lobby to visit, especially at the holidays. The life-size gingerbread house is just a wonder. Like the AKL, it is worth a trip for the extra features.

I am not a fan of buffets and while the food was good, it was not exceptional but not mediocre. We have done three character breakfasts, WL's Artist's Point now defunct Winne the Pooh and friends, the Contemporary's Chef Mickey's and GF's Park Faire. We enjoyed them all but the food was definitely superior at AP(discontinued) and Park Faire. It's worth doing at least one a trip especially if you love attention from the characters!

Hi, Just wanted to let you know that I am ENJOYING your great reviews! I am headed to WDW in Feb. and I will have with me my DS-12 for the first week until the rest of the family joins us for our second week at WDW! So he and I will be trying a few sit down meals that will be "new" to us! He is an ADVENTUOUS eater so I can pretty much book anywhere I would like to try! So much easier than when it is the 5 of us and everyone has an opinion! Joan

I loved breakfast at 1900 Park Fare. We had always had the O'Hana's one in the past and once tried Chef Mickey's, which we didn't like. We will plan on visiting 1900 PF each trip from now on.

Thanks for your review!

FreeTime,

Chef Mickey's was fun but absolutely crazy! Park Faire was more subdued and it definitely had better food! I added that to my review after seeing your dislike of Chef Mickey's.

Joan,

You will have a blast with your son for sure! It is very fun having a child who is willing to try things. It opens up many opportunities of dining out and eating well!

Thanks,
penny

I always recomend 1900 Park Fare to Friends... it is always an "upscale" experience for us... the food is great, not like the other buffets in the world where folks seem to go wild and fill up there purses with food... I have always thought the character interaction was good too! We plan on trying the GAla Feast when we go again in July, and hope we will be as pleased.

I have always felt it was a little more relaxing than many of the other character meals. The last character buffet I did was last summer at AK: Donalds... and I am sorry, but all of the rude folks eating while standing at the buffet did it for me!!

Enjoy!! :wizard:

Kathy,

I agree that buffet behavior leaves a lot to be desired.

I thought people were kind of bold with the characters at Park Faire, ie. approaching them with cameras instead of waiting for a table visit BUT the food and dining room definitely had an upscale flare.

Chef Mickey's breakfast was the craziest buffet I've ever been to. Boma's dinner the most mellow except near the prime rib! I just step aside and wait. ;) Hollywood and Vine was fairly calm too.

Park Faire is indeed a good one and convenient from the MK!

We always book 1900 Park Fare at LEAST once when we go to WDW. We have never had a bad--or even mediocre--breakfast there. :) My DDad loves the strawberry soup, and I enjoy the made-to-order omelettes. Yummy!

eeyore girl,

Thanks for reminding me about the made to order omelets. I added it to my review! They were just the right size and of course, custom fillings. ;) Yum!
