If I reserve a room/package to make some ADRs at 180+10, and then cancel the room/package once all the ADR's are inside 180 days, would the ADR's get cancelled automatically?

That would be dishonest.

I don't think they would, but that's really not fair to everyone who books honestly.

It's not "illegal" and I'm not sure it's dishonest really.... no, cancelling your room reservation would not cancel your dining reservations.

Friends of ours booked their trip, made their ADRs and then won a free week at Bonnet Creek through their son's school... so they cancelled their room obviously but their dining reservations were all still okay.

I've heard of people doing this... I think it's a way of "working" the system. I wonder if its really any different than booking a room and then adding free dining when it's announced... it's a way to work the system???

I get way too guilty about things, so i'm not sure I would do it... but only you can decide if you would feel guilty about it ;)

I wondered about this too, except we don't plan to "cancel" just possibly change resorts and/or discounts....

That would be dishonest.

Huh? Noone ever changes reservations due to different discounts? I am going in October. Last year, discount plans for my dates came out in July and August. My 180 days is April 23. I want to make ADR's, so I will be booking a resort, but may end up cancelling it and booking something else once I have complete information about costs.

I think what some consider dishonest is booking a resort reservation specifically to get the 180+10 booking advantage for restaurants, and then cancelling the resort reservation, while intending all along to stay offsite. Yes, I've heard of people doing this.

We're not sure what to do about that on the boards as there is no rule that says you can't do this. It's kind of a pain to have a deposit all tied up and then having to call to do the cancellation, and I wouldn't think just 180+ 10 is worth it or even all that necessary, but I can't underestmate the urge for some planners to make every reservation ASAP. Personally I'd guess it doesn't happen often enough for anyone to care about.

To answer the essential question, cancelling a resort reservation will NOT affect your restaurant reservations. If you're intending to cancel the trip entirely, or move it to a different date, you have to make sure you cancel your restaurant reservations separately.

Oh, I can see where that would be considered dishonest. Oddly, that NEVER would have occurred to me to do.

But, I am going to book an agency exclusive where the resort cannot be changed. I may, however decide I want to stay somewhere else once the GP discounts for my dates are released. Doing so would require cancelling the existing reservation and making a new one, hence my question.

But, thanks for answering my original question without thinking the worst of me.

My apologies if I misunderstood your intent. Your OP specifically stated that you wanted to "reserve a room/package to make some ADRs at 180+10, and then cancel the room/package once all the ADR's are inside 180 days". I read that to mean that you wanted to book a reservation for the sole purpose of taking advantage of the 180+10 (which is a perk of staying onsite) and then cancel the booking once you were safely inside 180 days of the last ADR.

As has been pointed out, there are undoubtedly people who will do exactly this because ADRs do not get automatically canceled when a resort reservation gets canceled. If the numbers grow out of hand, Disney will find a way to close that loophole.
