...

First off, it's nobody's business why you only put $10 in. HOWEVER, if you really wanted to get his panties in a wad you could've said, "I've only got $15 until my well fare check comes in and I need the other $5 for cigarettes". :duck: now I'm going to :tiptoe: quietly away and put on my flame retardant suit.

Oh man, I scared my 5 month old laughing at that one! :lmao:

I agree with pp, reading that and the hilarious "you're causing global warming" response made this thread worth while.

I was only saying calling someone rude but being rude yourself kind of defeats your own purpose.

Maybe so (to some) but it feels damn good givin' it right back.

I firmly believe people should be called out when they're being buttheads.

When someone is heckling you, it is your right to be a smarty pants right back.

Much in the same way that if someone hits you, you have the right to defend yourself. By using self defense, you are not the aggressor, even though you might have to be aggressive.

So if someone is rude to you, and you're rude back, you aren't actually being rude, but you're defending yourself.

Did that make sense?

Well...I own 2 SUV's and I thank you for only putting $10 in yours so that there's enough gas to fill both of mine left...I think to fill both tanks at once would cost us about $100. :headache:

I drive SUV's because
1. I like them
2. I need to get to work, even if it snows
3. If you're escourt or prius hits my SUV, I win
4. I have kids and all the stuff that comes with them
5. I like them

The environmental argument doesn't phase me...I figure all the additional money I pay in taxes to fill my vehicle should counteract that.

I'm a bad person. :teeth:

And it's certainly your right to drive whatever type of vehicle you want ~ just don't expect any sympathy from me when you complain about how much gas costs you. :thumbsup2

Though that isn't what the OP was about....sorry, OT there. :)

I thought it was funny that you were heckled, and I just would have laughed at that old man, but then you had to go and hurt my feelings by admitting that you disrespected his Escort. An Escort was my first car and I really liked it. So now I just think you sank to his level. And your story is no longer funny.

that's what I was thinking...only it was our last car was an Escort....a good reliable car that we had to move up from because it didn't have enough knee room. I could pack a TON into Wheezy (the escort) all the amenities needed for the four of us to tent camp for a weekend. I miss her. :sad1:

:thumbsup2

So if someone is rude to you, and you're rude back, you aren't actually being rude, but you're defending yourself.

I like the verbal defense theory...I will have to remember that!
Does it work with dirty looks too? If someone I don't know gives me a dirty look I can give one back with out being considered a "bleep"? I SURE HOPE SO!! I hate those ladies at Wegman's who think they are better than me because I don't shop in my Sunday's best and wear my diamonds...I JUST WANT TO BUY A POTATO FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, LADY!!!!

(sorry to get off topic!)

:lmao: I wonder if we shop at the same Wegmans? Those ladies are always there, aren't they? :rotfl:

There was an attractive young lady at the pump next to me in her Hummer H2, and I was so tempted to say "come here often?".

I'm not interested in the debate but here is a good article on the SUV fad. It's long, but eye-opening.

http://www.gladwell.com/2004/2004_01_12_a_suv.html

An excellent article, Squirlz! Thank you! Perceived safety as opposed to active (real) safety. Who'da thunk it?

BTW, I'm female, drive an energy efficient car and don't really care about cupholders because they're typically filled with spare change and gum wrappers. My idea of safety is avoiding the accident entirely - which I can easily do because I rarely (if ever) have my cell phone turned on when I'm driving, I actively participate in the task of driving and drive a small, nimble, quick car to be able to react quickly with if/when I see a problem on the road.

The only time you're safe in an accident is when you stay out of it.

Oh good grief! Everything people do will affect someone or something else, that's what it means to be alive. I am sure you have done plenty of things in your life which have had a negative impact on someone else (for example, posting judgmental comments on the disboard).

ahh words of wisdom

you have to love busy bodies, who have nothing better then to worry about how much gas you are putting in your car

Sorry, OP, but I had to laugh, too.

I never pay attention to how much or how little gas people put in their car. I could care less!!! I just fill my own and go on my merry way!!!!! It never dawned on me to see how much people spend (or don't spend) at the gas pump. I'm just looking for the easiest in and out when I pull up to the pump!

I'm with you!! I don't have time to be nosing around seeing what other folks are doing at the gas pumps! I'm too busy trying to get where I need to be.

As far as the SUV debate. Don't drive one, probably never will. I just don't like to drive a large vehicle. Most of the rest of my family do drive them. Their choice. But, I have hauled kids all over the place for the last 20 years or so. Carseats, kids, and whatever fit fine in the car. The boys played every sport known to man (except hockey) and we managed to get them, a team mate or two and all their equipment to the games in our car. I realize some think they need a bigger vehicle and thats fine; that's what is important to them. If they are willing to pay big bucks for gas, why should anyone else be bothered by it? :confused3

No, he got in his crummy Escort and went on home....LOL

Wow...so now you want to criticize his car? You did what he did, but came here to complain. Interesting.

BTW, I drive a 1999 Ford Contour..."crummy" to you, but IMO a smarter $$ decision. I'm not wasting money on a huge payment or gas. :)

Aww...I'm sorry....My husband runs a service department for Goodyear, so I am quite aware of what cars are junk and what will last longer. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. :flower3:

My 1994 Escort Station wagon lasted 230k miles. I don't call that junk. :)

How rude! I would have probably wanted to report the idiot. I would have driven off, THEN thought of a smart reply!

Kathee

This made me laugh out loud. Exactly who would you report something like this to?...if you wanted.

Wouldn't the world be a nicer place if people would just MYOB sometimes?!?

DH and I notice if the # is really big.

Some guy in a sports car put in over $55. because his car either only takes premium or he's under some impression that it needs premium. His car likely got worse mileage than my SUV.

I wouldn't drive anything else. Unless they came out with a cool 4wd minivan. I'm a nerd and love the new minivans out there. But, the only one that comes in AWD is the Sienna and I'm just not into it. If they made more on AWD or 4wd, I'd be all over them. Same gas mileage as my SUV, but with doors that open with a remote. :lovestruc

I think that people are just getting frustrated by the ridiculous gas prices and reacting badly. We as a nation use way too much gas but who knows what the solution is.

By the way, I drive a "crummy" small car too but I think I'll keep it. :)
