Day 9...Our First Dinner on the Magic!
A quick photo I didn't have on line when I posted earlier. Here is our embarkation shot. Not great, but I love it because it means we were just about to step into and onto the Magic!
Being as my guys were sweet enough to be ready, we were on our way to our first night's dinner. On this night we would enjoy the island menu at Parrot Cay. On this night (and all nights that were to follow) we would be dining with our good friends. We really enjoyed sharing dinner with them each evening. Great atmosphere, servers, food and friends made for many awesome evenings!
And then we made our way into Parrot Cay. I love this restaurant. It's so festive and bright. It screams out "you are in the Caribbean". I also love watching my boys discover (over and over) the many parrots that seem to be on almost every surface. The light fixtures, the woodwork, the carpet...everywhere you look, you can spy a parrot or two. It's laid back in all of the right ways.
Maybe I thought it was so laid back because I started my meal off with one (or maybe it was two

) of these.
That delectable looking drink was a banana caribe. It was a mixture of spiced rum and creme de banana with a frozen blend of pineapple and coconut juice. It tasted even better than it looked/sounds. It was GOOD!
While I sipped on my drink and pondered my menu choices I chewed on WARM banana bread, whole wheat rolls and crusty french bread. OH SO GOOD! It was very clear that nobody at our table was following a low carb diet when we asked for our FIFTH basket of bread!

Our Little Prince really helped put that stuff away (or on the floor, in my lap, under the table, in the hand of a passing server....he was very 'giving' with the bread course

).
I started off my meal with baked crab Martinique. It was jumbo lump crab baked in a creamy cheese sauce. Y-U-M!
For my salad, I chose a bit differently then I normally would. I usually shy away from "sweets" in my salads but I embraced them in this very sweet fruit salad. I picked the tropical style fruit salad which was drizzled with a honey and lime syrup. VERY sweet and VERY good!
And here are some of the sweet kids I shared a table with.
As we were enjoying our appetizers and salads, the kid's got their meals.
Aladdin dined on steak and french fries (his own special order

).
Stitch ordered pizza (and stuck with that EVERY night for the rest of the cruise).
Goofy hopped on the pizza bandwagon this night (but would be much more adventurous most of the rest of the week). The kids were also kept entertained by our wonderful assistant server, Gavin from South Africa.
WE LOVE GAVIN! He would set up the crayons in mind teaser puzzles for the kids to work on. It never failed to keep them all involved and busy long enough for us to be able to enjoy a leisurely pace for our own meals with lots of good conversation scattered throughout.
The first main course that I enjoyed while on the Magic was island roasted beef rib-eye with a double backed potato with sour cream, crunchy fried onions strings and green beans on the side. With no problem at all, I was able to add in some of the jumbo shrimp that were part of another plate. The entire plate was full of flavor filled explosions of goodness!
Dessert was another great banana flavored treat. I felt the need to order a second banana drink to go with it.
I had the french toast banana bread with pudding and caramel sauce. It came with sliced banana and coconut ice cream on the side.
Most of the kids had the first of many Mickey ice cream bars for dessert.
The ice cream bars always came topped with tons of sprinkles. And most nights the sprinkles had little smiley faces shaped paths cleared through the sprinkles.

Our thoughtful server was Sameer (from India I think).
WE LOVE SAMEER! We adored him, he provided great service and between the Gavin and Sameer we never wanted for anything. They were an amazing serving team. If you cruise on the Magic and happen to have them as your servers...consider yourself VERY lucky!
Once we had all stuffed ourselves an obscene amount we made our way back to our staterooms to change into comfortable clothes for the rest of our evening.
Here is the first, of a week's worth, of towel creations that greeted us.
After a quick change routine worthy of a bunch of quick change artists, we were ready to meet up with our friends once again. We were hoping that all of the kids would want to stay with us the first night. No such luck. Between both families we have seven kids. Only two stuck with us. Our
Little Prince and their oldest daughter,
Snow White.
After our kids' club drop offs, we made our way to the Walt Disney Theatre.
To be continued...
