Hi,

Would you bring a mature 15yr old to the Comedy Club and Adventures Club at PI? Why or why not?

I know many here will disagree, but we brought ds11 into A.C. and he loved it.. has been "kungalooshing" ever since April... nothing there that wouldn't be in a PG-13 movie. Didn't get into the Comedy Club, as the A.C. took up quite a bit of the evening.

Thanks. We are traveling with friends that have three children and their oldest is 15 and he is very mature. He is working on being an Eagle Scout. He asked about being able to get into the Comedy Club and Adventures Club if his Mom and I took him. I told his Mom that I would ask on the boards about content.

My husband and I have not been to PI in years. We do not have children so we do not tend to view things for a child appropriate point of view.

I am not a fan of children (even mature under-18's) at Pleasure Island as a rule, but if you're going straight to Comedy or Adventurers with a 15 year old, then straight out again, you will likely have a great time and won't have any real problem with some of the more 'seedy' behavior at PI. I'd get him out of there before 11pm though..... :earseek:

Forgot to mention the 'content' part. Comedy Club can be as 'clean' or as 'off color' as the audience viewing it, since there is a great deal of audience participation. You'll hear a lot of inuendo, which isn't likely to go over the 15 year old's head. He'll get what they mean and he'll know it's a bit naughty.

Adventurers Club is along the same lines, especially before 10 or 11pm. After that it gets pretty bawdy, depending on the audience. The main problem with kids and PI (in my opinion), is seeing what goes on in the street area. It's not pretty, and sometimes it's REALLY not pretty.

Keep in mind a lot of adults going to PI are there because it's their time away from kids and some of them don't really appreciate the content at Comedy/Adventurers being more stiffled because there are children in the audience. So it isn't just 'what will the kids see', it's also a bit unfair to the adults who paid to get in and can't really enjoy an adults night out in an adult atmosphere. Another good reason to leave by 10pm or so.

I recently started watching PG-13 movies with my pre-adolescent DD, and I have to say I am shocked at how much more explicit they are than when I was her age.

Two examples from DVD rentals this week:

"America's Sweethearts" -- the running gag was the size of the loser guy's *****. That's so funny I forgot to laugh. (I didn't type it with asterisks but I guess body parts are not allowed on the DIS.)

"Supersize Me" -- great film but I could have done without the girlfriend's explanation that the couple's sex has gone so far downhill that she has to always be on top.

I guess I've gone completely square but this isn't the humor I want to enjoy with my kids. Not yet anyway :confused3

Yes, 15 is old enough for PI. Go to the first show of Comedy Warehouse, then to Adventurer's Club. Then see if there is any interesting music, look in the shops, then head home. Don't make it a late night, nor a CM night which is rowdier. I think CM night is Thursday night, but I'm not sure.

On my first and only PI night (I am 20) there was an 11 year old in the audience at the comedy club and he was invited to say something and he kind of took over the whole show for about 10 minutes. I thought it was super annoying- we had left a 10 and a 12 year old back at the hotel for a night out without them. It was definitely awkward.

A 15 year old should be fine- I definitely would have enjoyed it at 15 :teeth: Depends how the parents feel about open drinking.

I generally don't think that PI - either in- or outside the clubs - is appropriate for children (heck, I saw a few couples doing things that my wife and I took notes on for back at the room! :rotfl2: ). The main reasons are what others have said: the material is often not suited for children, and the presence of children in an adult-club atmosphere is sometimes no appreciated - CW and AC will often feel the need to tone it down a bit when younger ones are present, at least early in the night.

15 years old, though, seems OK to me, given an honest assessment of their maturity. I'm a JH/HS Math substitute (working on my certification) and I see that 14-15 year olds have a wide range of mental, emotional and physical development. Try this: ask the 15 YO to turn to page "69" of any given book - if they can avoid giggling, they're OK for PI....

HAW HAW HAW!!! Good test, Dr. Tomorrow! :teeth:

My DS will be 13 next month and we could never say "page 69" (or Puss in Boots, Gaylor Palms, Homogenized milk, etc. for that matter.....) in front of him without his going into near hysterics.

"NO PI FOR YOU!!!"

Be prepared to get busted on a little if you go to AC. We watched an adult couple get picked on by the characters because they had their kids (maybe 12 or 13) at a bar. The jokes kept coming back to them. It was funny, but they were a little embarassed.

Thanks for all of the replies. The opening drinking is not an issue. He is very mature. Sometimes he acts more adult then the adults at a gathering. We might not even end up going as I do not have it planned for, but since he mentioned it I figured I would look into it. Thanks to all.

My big problem with the 15 and under crowd in the AC and CC is the fact that they will tone down the shows when kids are afoot. I know they are allowed there, but it sure dulls down the show for me.
