Maria!! 174.0 is a great number! I can't wait to see that number! :) Congrats on managing the pizza...it's those extra slices that get me, too! BRAVO!!!

I am doing fairly well...I did my slimfast, ham sandwich with cole slaw...for snack I had a sampling of potato salad from Costco....then a slimfast for dinner but I was really hungry so I had about 10 tortellini that I fixed for my kids dinner. I did have one diet coke...I so needed the caffeine!

Tomorrow is my 6th and final walk for this week...then it's back to Monday and walking 6 days in a row again!

Oh, and all these tips to keep us on track I have one more..

GO TRY ON BATHING SUITS!!! Boy, how discouraging to see all these bulges in some of these styles! I don't know if I'll ever be pleased with myself in a suit...but atleast I can tell how far I've come! Just trying on 12's is a treat for me! :)

Now I'm going to go tie/die some vacation shirts...I'm getting so excited that with our house selling we'll be able to spend my birthday at Disney! Our first time at the Contemporary and last trip for a looong time...gotta run and drink some water!

Let's make day 3 a GREAT losing day!
Tara

Hey everybody!!! We're doing great!

I said no to:
Snacking
DISing

Yes:
Good foods
Water
A small glass of soda
Exercise

And what's your favorite inspiring quote? I love quotes...anybody got some good ones?

This is the swimsuit I want:

http://www.landsend.com/cd/fp/prod/...00.html?sid=4267188523529173630&CM_MERCH=SRCH

I have one almost like it, but it is too big now. I love how it looks like shorts and a tank top. I wore it on our excursions on the Disney Cruise. I haven't ordered a new one yet though, I will only be needing a swimsuit for our 4 night cruise in March and I have an old one piece suit that now fits and I have swim shorts to wear over it, so I will probably just use that for our cruise.

If I am still a size 10 next summer, I will probably order one of these. I am just not confident about maintaining my weight lose yet, and I don't want to waste the money on something I will only be wearing 1 day at Castaway Cay.

Oh, I did the Walk Away the Pounds 1 Mile video again today, so that is 2 days down (only 11 more to go).

Eating hasn't been as good today, Saturday is my problem day. I should be back on track tomorrow.

I am having a hard time knowing the girls are going to school on Thursday. I am probably going through what the Kindergarten moms go through. I don't want my girls to leave! On Friday we went to our old Homeschool Roller Skating activity (something we did once a month since we started homeschooling). It was fun, but sad because next month we won't be there. Then the ABC Nightly News did a story about how awful middle schools are....and well, I was having a 'sad' day. I am sure I will feel better once we get started and I get use to it all.

We are having Family Moive Night, so I am watching Shrek 2 while I am typing, so I better rejoin my family.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Debra

Debra!! I LOVE that swimsuit...I hate paying full price...maybe it'll go on sale at the overstock side! :) And I LOVE the virtual model you can design...I punched in all my specifics and came up with a model that didn't look half bad in the swimsuits! :)

Well, I stayed up till 1:30am making those Mickey Mouse tie died shirts...I only got as far as sewing and banding them then today I've got to add the colors. But it's 7:22 and I've got to get out the door...I so want to sleep in today but I'm making these 13 days be losing days...now that I've got the eating better I can't let up on the exercise! :banana:

Hmmm..TC...let me think of some quotes

"Come my friends, 'tis not too late to seek a newer world." -- Tennyson

Let's seek a newer world of better eating, better living and good friends! :)

Say YES to a newer you today!!!
Tara

Thanks, Tara!

Hey guys, I got tagged!!!!!!!!!!!!! And it's about my fitness routine!!!!

I have been hoping for a sale on it too for the past two years, but so far nothing. Maybe it will eventually. I am probably going to break down and pay full price because I would really like to have it. I like the 'two piece' style for when you need to go to the bathroom (I really hate pulling down the one piece to use the restroom). This suit is perfect for excursions on the cruise or going to the waterparks.

I want it in blue and it is backordered right now for my size (I need the long torso), but until my credit card rolls over, I can't buy anything! :rolleyes:

Lands End makes good stuff, but they don't discount them very often. Bummer.

Congrats on the Tag! I thought the Tag Fairy has disappeared! Nice to know s/he is still around!

Day 3: Amid scheduled campaign trips to Connecticut and the Midwest, President Kennedy meets with and advises Soviet Foreign Minister Andrie Gromyko that America will not tolerate Soviet missiles in Cuba. Gromyko denies the presence of any Soviet weaponry on the island.

I have to be determined not to tolerate hangin' out in the 170's anymore. I hovered around 178 for, well, way too long to count. I really want to see the 160s, and then 150s! I want to be as close to the 160s as possible before I leave, so that I can be sure to see them by the end of September.

Then there's the other factor, what am I denying? Well, I think I always assume I have plenty of time to just quickly whip myself in shape when I need to. The reality is, it's never that fast, and I never get to where I want. I am seeing my habits begin to slowly change, and I am having little victories. I think I'm finally accepting that I have to eat less and move more if I want to see results. It's a simple concept, but accepting it mentally and acting on it have been two different things.

Jen -- Congratulations on the Tag Fairy! I was beginning to think that was a myth...

Debra & Tara -- I love Land's End! I have a suit similar to that one, but I'm hoping it will be too small soon...You're absolutely right about sales. Not so much.

My favorite quote is from Yoda. If only I did live up to it... "Do or Do Not, There is No Try".

I made my grocery list/menus and hopped on the treadmill this morning. DH did all the grocery shopping, so I was able to skip that temptation. Now I'm looking forward to a day of reading, laundry, and Disney movies.

DH needs the computer for his fantasy football picks, so I have to finish now...

Maria

Thanks, Maria!!! And thanks, Debra!!!

Anyway-Maria! I love how you're being so honest with yourself...acknowledge the little victories; they'll make you proud until the big victories come and sweep you off your feet.

The suit is GORGEOUS, Debra!!! Next year, I am going to be brave and get a tankini!!! One pieces are hard to get down when you have to potty.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What have I been denying? That I actually have to get off the DIS and get ready for the day!
Maria,
This was the HARDEST part of my weight lose journey! I thought I could lose my weight in 2-3 months and all would be well. It isn't that fast. I started Jan. 1st and I am still 10 pounds away from my goal weight that I set back then (so that is over 8 months).
I resented that I couldn't eat 'like everyone else'. I think TV is very misleading though. They show people eating BIG meals and then you go to restaurants and they serve you BIG meals and you figure you should be eating like that---if everyone else is, you should be able to too, right?!?
We watch Gilmore Girls, and those two eat SO much, I can not imagine!
Well, I no longer believe that thin people eat like that (sure there are the few that can do it, but they are the exception, not the rule). Someone (maybe Oprah) said, if you want to be thin, watch how thin people eat and do what they do. So I did that, and discovered that they do eat differently than I do.
One of the turning points for me was last fall at one of my DD's Math Bowl meets. Her coach (a very attractive woman the same age as I am) was there and I was in line behind her at the buffet dinner. I saw her take 1 piece of break and break it in half and make HALF of a sandwich! WHO DOES THAT? I never even thought about that! So I followed her lead and I did the same thing!
It NEVER occured to me that I could take half portions of things! That may sound dumb, but it was a real break through for me. THEN I noticed thin people walking out of restaurants with containers of food. WHAT? I didn't have to eat everything I ordered at the restaurant? I started asking for the containers up front and I take away half right away.
I realize now that I can not eat like I did when I was at 205 pounds unless I want to weigh over 200 pounds again. As much as I don't think it is 'fair', that doesn't matter any more--it is what it is. BUT I can still eat everything I like and I start eating half of what I did.
So I still get the items I like at carry in dinners (but I take 1 spoonful instead of 2-3). I split sandwiches and I take home food from restaurants.
I have also learned to order SMALL servings instead of Medium at fast food places. I always thought 'small' was for kids. Then I watched that documentary " Supersize Me" (that was VERY interesting watching this man who had been a healthy eater go just 1 month eating at a McDonalds only). In this documentary (or perhaps it was the book that inspired the movie--Fast Food Nation) they say that the size of the small serving use to be the NORMAL serving size--but slowly we have increased our serving sizes more and more. We do not need that much food!
Anyway, I am rambling now--sorry. But for me that break through this year (and this is the first time I have ever managed to stay on a food plan for over 8 months!) was changing my thinking, and realizing that I need to eat less food FOREVER. Not just while I am losing weight.
That is why I am not big on following a specific diet that will not carry over after I lose all the weight. I am training myself to learn to eat less food and to keep doing that for now on.
Once you get use to less food, you really do not get hungry as often as you do when you are use to more food. I NEVER REALIZED THAT! Both DH and I have noticed that this year (he has already lost his weight--he only needed about 4 months). We have discovered that the 'hunger' feelings can be adjusted and you get USE to eating less food, so you don't get hunger pains like we did when we were eating more food.
It has been a real turning point for me. I keep saying to DH, Why didn't anyone tell me that you can 'train' you body to want less food? I thought I would always feel hungry! OK, I am done now. Sorry to go on and on.... :lovestruc
Oh, Debra, Thank You!
There is so much that's wonderful in and about your post! It's the hunger pangs that get me! I do believe you, because I'm finding I'm full on less and less. I am really looking forward to that day when I really don't want any more am full quickly.
The idea for half servings is great! That never occurred to me. I'm definitely going to use that on our upcoming trip. We have a buffet (Hollywood & Vine), which I just knew was going to be trouble. But if I take half or quarter servings of only the things I really want, and don't try everything just because it's there, it may not be too bad.
I have never followed a food plan correctly for very long. I fall off and on of WW way too often. I've been gaining and losing the same pounds for a very long time. This summer since I found the DIS, I have actually started to make what seems to be real progress. Coming here every day is making a difference for me. You guys are the best personal coach I could have!
For the first time, I feel confident that if I do gain on our trip, I can get rid of that weight quickly and keep moving forward toward my goals. I really want to greet January in the 150s. Every year I say I'll be 135 by the next January. That has never happened! My very best weight since I began this yo-yo cycle was 159.9. And that was about 10 years ago, before my son, and when I was doing aerobics and strength training 4 times a week.
So, onward and downward! And everytime you think of a new tip, please share. Even if we know something, we might forget it or it might get lost...
Maria
Hello!
I had a 1.5 lb. loss this week! Woo hoo!
I have to tell you the funniest thing that I did lately...I play VMK (you know that online Disney game) and I was thinking that I didn't have a "cool" room. (Some of these people are extremely creative). Well, I was talking to someone on VMK and said this looked like my "yoda" outfit (yoga is a banned word - not sure why...) and so I made the official dis boards VMK exercise room! Yes, I know I'm an adult, but it was pretty hilarious to see all these people in my room yesterday working out! LOL! I have dance dance revolution (a dance game), a chair climber (there are no stairs in VMK), a shower/locker room, front desk, "yoda" mats and workout area, as well as a "health drink place" (you can't say bar either). I know...I find the smallest things so amusing in life! LOL!
Have a wonderful Sunday! :)
Lisa
Lisa!!! GREAT job on the loss!!! Your hard work is paying off! :goodvibes I can feel the energy around here and love all the honesty that's going on! We really do get into a different mindset when gaining weight and before we know it, it becomes routine. We're all working very hard at trying to think like a 150'er and it's working!
We're all going to have setbacks but we also have great victories! I love knowing that I'm 79 pounds than my all-time high! Sure I'd like to be 109 pounds from that but atleast I'm making progress and I can see the goal now. I have officially made walking 26 miles a week a routine for me now...it works for me, I can get up early and don't need special equipment or gear and I actually like the time chatting with my neighbor or on my own seeing the bunnies and birds flit by. I'm slowly turning the tide on my eating...it seems it's either good eating/no exercise or exercise/poor eating...I feel like I'm trying to slow a merry-go-round and turn it the other direction. It'll be challenging but once I get that merry-go-round heading the right direction the effort will seem less. I do have the memories where I stayed below 150 for 10 years and it really was not that hard....for those that may not have that memory...trust me, it can be done!!!!
I said yes to my long walk this am...I said yes to drinking water at the restaurant and a slimfast for bkfst.
I said no to ordering french fries...I did go for the chicken pasta and a few bites of the molten lava...but I will slimfast my last slimfast tonight and work hard on Lisa's tips for balancing snacks and meals...
Thanks guys! Y'all are the greatest!!!
TC-Love the tag!!! Did you think you'd have that tag associated with your name a year ago??? LOok at you now!!! :)
Tara
Tara - Thanks for the kudos! :)
Personally, everyone here inspires me! I only wish I had the same drive as you all have, but I'm working on it! ;) I must say that although work and school keeps me busy...I think I do much better with eating and working out because I realize I must workout at this specific time.
I'm getting excited for back to school! I am going to wear a pedometer this year and track my steps...I will let you know how many steps I take each day, too! :)
Here is your thought for the week:
"Waste no tears over the grief of yesterday." - Euripides
Yeah, the quote may sound a little different, but I think it speaks to me not to dwell on the past...what's done is done and we can only move on!
Keep it up!
Lisa
I thought I would share a picture of the "dis boards exercise room" on VMK. As you can see I am standing there in my "yoda" outfit. I am on my "yoda" mats and below me is the "health drink place." To my right is the shower and locker room and behind me is the front desk. In the top left there is the chair climber (no stairs in VMK) and in the bottom right (partially blocked by the description) is the dance dance revolution game. Enjoy! :sunny:
Hi everybody!
I said no to:
Extra snacking
Chips
Soda
I said yes to:
Yummy soup
Water
Exercise
Tara-I never thought that quote would be associated with my name!!! I didn't even think I'd BE like this a year ago!
Speaking of which:
I will be going to Disney this December!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anybody got any good tips?
Maria: So glad my 'babbling' was helpful. I think you will find that you can do good at Disney, just make good choices and don't waste calories on things you don't really want.
Lisa: My kids LIVE on VMK! I told them when school starts that they can't be on the computer Mon-Thurs nights because I want them to focus on homework (and they are both in after school programs not getting home until after 5:00 each day--then I have them go to bed at 9:00 at night). It is so funny how much time they can spend in there. One DD has a restaurant, and she started a Dance Team and people showed up to try out! Then she was in a Fashion Show in someone else's room. Too Funny!
Tara: I am SO impressed with your walking. I haven't gotten mine in today yet. I have a sick kid, a sick husband and my other DD needed to be taken and picked up from a youth program. There is someone in every room of house and I have had no peace and quiet, so looks like today will be a bust, but tomorrow DH goes to work and I can have my house back! :teeth: I should be able to get back on track then.
Time to go do dishes (ugh!),
Later,
Debra
Good morning fellow losers. :wave: :wave:
Goal for today is a 20 min walk and 60 oz of water. Have cut down on the pain meds. Tomorrow, the ugly thick bandage comes off. The heat and humidity have been unbearable.
Everyone seems to be doing well and keeping on track. Will check in later.
Have a great losing day.
Kathy!!! So great to hear from you!!!! So glad you're turning that bend..hope that bandage is not so yucky! :)
I tried on my bridesmaid dress last night to get an idea of what kind of bra I could wear...it has a low back...well, it fit so well last night...granted 10 more pounds will make it fit great! But all this walking (although the scale is at 178 today) has really helped tone me up! The dress was loose through the hips a bit...and 2 weeks ago it was pig tight! :) So, just that little victory will help me stay focused on this day 4 of our 13 day challenge..it is day 4 isn't it? Or am I already losing time?
I did my walk...I had an excuse not to go..couldn't find other walking shoe...but I didn't give up...found it in my son's room where the girls had used it as a bed for their stuffed animal...oh gee. But I got out there and walked it!
TC- YEAH a December trip???? I've always wanted to go in December...I bet the decorations are incredible! You'll love all the pictures of you in your family trip this year...that's a huge plus of losing weight, you actually like seeing the photos! :)
Everyone great job on meeting the challenge of these 13 days..some how 13 days seems very doable....
Tara
We have been to Disney the last two Christmas seasons (this year we are staying home). It is simply beautful! And we loved the weather. In the evening you need jackets, but we like that! The BEST part is when they make it 'snow' on Main Street at the MK.
We also went around the the resorts to check out the decorations. We really enjoyed BW. That is where we stay and they actually had Santa come in the lobby to see the kids (my girls were actually still young enough 2 years ago that they did go see Santa.....the LAST time they ever did that and probably will be the last time they ever will now that they are Middle School....just wouldn't be Cool!). They also have singer on the lawn at night singing carols. The decorations inside are beautiful too!
If the Travel Channel shows Samantha Browns special again on Disney suring the holiday, be sure to watch it. She gives you an overview of a lot of the holiday highlights.
Oh, for me one of the BEST parts was seeing Robby Benson (voice of the Beast in Beauty & the Beast and star of Ice Castles, a movie that I really liked about 25 years ago) reading the story of the birth of Jesus at Epcot. I had a BIG crush on him when I was a teenager, so it was neat to finally see him in person.
OK, back to diet focus talk: I am going to do my walking today now that I have space in the house.
Good Luck everyone! It's a new week!
