Prayers sent for Kathy and for our fearless leader, Tara!

And another 100-cal snack? Yummers!!!! Thanks, Debra!

Maria-You can do this!!!! Most definitely. I have faith in you.

feel better, miss linda!!! :hug:

Regina/Maria-Have fun with TOM :rolleyes:. You can take him! He's here for his very last day and I am PSYCHED because we are having a Disney planning party today!!!!!

And don't MAKE me break out the pompoms...because I can! Then I will have to be ready to cheer and pep this place up!

Just checking in really quick!

Linda - Yes, I'm about a minute away from the craft stores. :) I just went "downtown" two days ago to get some lunch in one of the shops.

Maria - I teach fifth grade. I love the "big people" as I call them. I say that partially because I'm 5'4" and there's always a couple of kids who are taller than me by the end of the year! ;)

Maria!! Count me in on your 13 day crisis attack! I will work really hard at making the next 13 days good ones...I think if I do 4 sets of 13 day crises I might actually make a slim entry into that bridesmaid dress 10/1! :) I've stuck to my walking beyond my expectations and don't see anything hindering that....but I've got to get a handle on this eating....I had pizza for lunch...just too stressed waiting for news on the contract...it's a low ball offer but they're not asking for anything...just offered 10% less than house appraised for...we might try to raise it a bit with a counter and see what happens. So count me in there with you!!

Anyone else to join me and Maria in this 13 day get our act together plan?? And here I am just returning from Winn-Dixie with their 10/$10 Nestle packs! UGH! I guess I can lose weight and still have one small kitkat per day! :)

WATER THINK WATER!!!!! And Maria, your career sounds more complicated than the missile crisis...you have done some GREAT things and it all sounds so interesting!!! Now, if you can manage all that in your short career you can certainly handle 13 days!!!!

WATER WATER WATER!!!

TC- Girl, we need your cheers!!! I bet if you cheer loud enough you'll blast into the 160's yourself! :)

Off to take my afternoon nap! That early am walking zaps it out of me!
Tara

Hello, again!

AH! My best friend (who works at my school) - I can't remember if I've told you that story - has a few job offers! I'm psyched, but not really! LOL! Let me explain...my friend got one job offer yesterday and must tell them by Friday if she wants it. She had another job offer today must tell them by tonight and got another interview (in my district!!!!!!!!) tomorrow. Of course, she still has her aide job at my school, as well. I'm on pins and needles here! Of course I want her to stay in my district, but I know she has to decide what is right for her. Please...lots of prayers that she can make the decision as easily as possible! Thanks so much!

Hope it all works out. It is so hard leaving friends, but friendships never have to end. Thanks for reminding me to write my best friend from high school.
Debra

Yeah!

I didn't realize I'd have company on my quest! This is awesome. I'm doing great so far. I ate exactly 22 points (my maximum), I'm on my third bottle of water, so on track to make 4 today, and I spent 80 minutes on the treadmill. This was after I went shopping at Target. I love Target....I could just stay there...

I don't really like plain bottled water, so I picked up those packets that turn it into fun drinks for our trip. No reason to buy a soda, now.

I think I ate o.k., too, getting my 22 points. I had a Kashi trail mix bar, a salad, shrimp -- just plain, no batter or anything, a fig newton bar pkg., a small pkg. of cranberries, and a Lindt ball. The cranberries were a real treat for me. I don't have them often because they are 4 pts., and that's a lot for a fruit serving. I have plenty of leftover shrimp for my lunch tomorrow, so that's pretty much taken care of as well.

Debra -- the 5 lb. per month challenges are awesome. I haven't done one yet, but I've already decided to take on September to help me get right back on track. We get home Sept. 1, so I'm officially starting when the plane touches down in Boston (I need that last Disney buffet breakfast on the cruise!). Oh! I and also picked up the 100 calorie kettle corn at Target! I am ready to try it tomorrow.

Jen -- I hope your Disney planning party went well. Thanks for the fabulous cheer! I really think focusing steadily for 13 days will make a big difference when my vacation starts, and help me get back on track after we return.

Lisa -- I'm sure 5th graders are wonderful. When I used to work with Jr. Girl Scouts, I loved that age. They are big enough to have some independence, but are still interested in what you have to say. I hope whatever is best for your friend comes to pass, it sounds like she has many opportunities to choose from.

Tara -- Continued good wishes with selling your house. Just think about how much fun it will be to celebrate after you close, and you can really focus on your new home!

Well, I'm off to finish my before bed routine so I can relax for a bit. Have a fabulous evening, and I'll check in tomorrow morning for my daily dose of enthusiasm, and the beginning of Day:2.

Maria

Well, Maria...I'm starting my 13 days tomorrow...3 tacos tonight kind of messed me up...but tomorrow I've got my cabbage cole slaw all ready and my lean ham...plus some fresh fruit...so I should be off to a great new start...tomorrow is day five of my 6 day walk/week...Sunday I get to rest!!! :) TOM is over so I think I'm going to have some losing weeks ahead!!! :)

We countered on the offer...now it's just waiting time! :)

Let's kick this!!! I know that we can all make this a losing 13 day challenge!!! We can do anything for 13 days! :)

Better run and fold some clothes...gotta work out those arms!!! My goal is to drink 4 big glasses of water tomorrow and only one diet coke...I usually don't have more than one...but I need to cut it out!

YEAH for 13 days!!! You're one day ahead of us so lead us on baby! :)
Tara

Count me in for the 13 day chanllenge starting tomorrow. I need to get refocused and start doing my exercise. This weekend should be fairl good for me, because I will be getting a lot of exercise. I will be MIA until Tues. I still have to load the trailer for this weekend and then we will be gone until Monday afternoon.

Tara - Here is some :wizard: to help you reach agreement and sell your house, I can't imagine the stress of trying to sell a house for as long as you have been.

Regina

Evening All!!

Count me in on the 13 days challenge starting tomorrow. :cheer2: Make mine with a twist..........I will be in WDW a good junk of the time so my challenge will be to step on the scale when I leave and when I get back......scale needs to either maintain or lose....now the optimist in me says this can be done at Disney World!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc I can do this....lots of walking and drinking the water. WOO HOO!! Oh on top of this I will have TOM visiting next week :faint:

I need this motivation and CAN DO IT!!

I do have a sinus infection and have been given a couple of meds....love those drugs!! Hoping to feel better soon.

TARA - :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: Nothing but good wishes coming to you for a quick settlement on the house!!!

Debra - You have been a great inspiration and hope to apply what you have done like the 5 pound challenges or maybe even breaking them down further. Also going to start calorie counting......sounds like the wisest way to go. Just need to start exercising.......both of us :rotfl:

Regina - Enjoy the weekend!! Keep Drinking!! :drinking1

Maria - Thanks for the CHALLENGE :cheer2: :cheer2: We are in this together!! :banana:

Lisa - Good Luck to your friend - hope it all works out.

Kathy - sending prayers hope to hear from you soon.

Tomorrow morning on the scale and the challenge begins!!

Have a Magical Disney Day!! ::MickeyMo
Linda

Tara - hope you sell the house soon.

Linda - I got home from the surgery about 2 this afternoon. They gave me prescription for a different pain med than they gave me on Tuiesday. I ended up sleeping most of the afternoon. The dr scheduled 2.25 hrs for the procedure but ended up doing it in 2 hrs. He didn't have to do as much repair on the bicep tendon.

Everyone - thanks for for well wishes. My follow up visit is scheded for Tuesday.

Typing one handed is a little hard. I'm having trouble keeping my eyes open. Will post again later.

Linda

Linda,
I am sure that it can be done at WDW, but do have fun while you are there! I gained 3 pounds while I was there, but it all came off the next week (mostly water weight). I tried sharing food with my family (mostly I wanted a couple of bites of something just to try it) and I went to just 2 meals a day instead of 3. But even with that, I gained 3 pounds, but to be honest, I wasn't trying all that hard not to gain, so I am sure you will do much better than I did.

NOW about "both of us" starting to exercise. I have been avoiding this like crazy as I have been on this weight lose journey since January. BUT as I see everyone jumping on the 13 day challenge, I have been thinking about jumping on with you guys, only for me, I am going to try exercising for 13 days. OF COURSE, what I consider exercising for me isn't the same of what I am reading that the rest of you are doing. I am going to try walking 1 mile a day for the next 13 days. I realize that doesn't sound like much at all, but I haven't been doing anything, so this is a big jump for me.

SO for my 13 day challenge (starting today....I am actually up typing this at 5:20 am.....I woke up early for some reason) I will walk 1 mile a day for the next 13 days. :guilty: :guilty: :guilty:

You have NO idea how hard this is for me to do this. I have been doing fine with the dieting so far. But exercise.....UGH! :earseek:

OK, I am in, after all, it is only 13 days, right! :rolleyes1

Debra

Debra!!! It's 5:40 where I am and I'm about to head out the door!!! :) I'll be sending good vibes your way! One mile a day for 13 days is a GREAT GREAT GOAL!!!! Don't knock yourself!!! I GUARANTEE you that sticking to any change in exercise for the good will only make you feel stronger and more energetic...and remember to have a good comfortable pair of shoes..that makes all the difference and prevents injury. My son was supposed to walk with me this morning but I hate to wake him up...I might give him 10 more minutes...because he's usually up around now.

Kathy!!! YEAH!!! You're one-handed (we'll just call you "Hook" for a few weeks!:)) but you made it through!! And woo-hoo on it taking less time...that's always a good thing, too! Hopefully, you've got some extra hands with you that will help you get some rest. We're thinking of you and hoping you're back at it soon...let us know how it worked!

Linda!!! YOU CAN do WDW and lose weight!! Just think of ALL that walking!!! I think my best advice is to skip all sugar drinks...make it unsweet tea or water and eat when you want but try not to eat the whole plate...we'll hopefully be there in September (the house is supposed to close 8/31...if it works out) and we'll be on the dining plan...I'm a bit worried being there 2 weeks before the wedding but I know if I walk walk walk and just sample the foods I should be okay. So, think 13 days of discipline and come back and show me how you DID it...so I can follow in your losing footsteps!!! :)

Regina! Safe TRAVELS!!! Enjoy your trip....hope you have great weather!!! :)

Maria!! SEE what you've started!! You've put a fire in our bellies and we're going to walk, flush, jump it right out! :) Thanks for sharing...it gets contagious and we all will benefit from this 13 day challenge!! :) My challenge starts today but I'll weigh on Saturday and hopefully see some changes in 13 days that will make me GRIN! :) I KNOW YOU WILL!!!

Lisa, hoping your BF finds out some good news today in YOUR district! And hope your long days are behind you....hoping you're enjoying a leisurely breakfast and get home at a reasonable hour! :) I know it's tough that first week...and dontcha just love 5th graders? I think they're precious and love hearing all their ideas. I'd love to have YOU as a teacher!!! You're smiling face and creative style would make anyone want to learn! :)

TC...KEEP THOSE CHEERS COMING!! I can almost see/hear you pom/pomming us all down a few pounds!!! You're AWESOME!!!

Okay it's 5:52 and I've got to get out the door so hubby can get to work...guess I'll be walking alone...but I'll have all those birds singing to me and I know I can do the miles with style! :)

Tara

Good morning!

I'm sorry if that last email sounded crazy, but you know how it is when your nervous! I know this is a weight loss thread, but I have to tell you this story.

I was hired two years ago at the Long Grove school the day before meet your teacher day. (Meaning, I was hired about 7:30am in the morning and had to have a classroom prepared and be ready to meet the staff, parents, and kids within 24 hours!) Yeah, I thought I was going to pass out from my huge to do list! However, two of my awesome teammates set up my entire classroom (i.e. books, desks, bulletin boards, etc.) while I was filling out the paperwork, etc. It was a wild start to the year, but turned out great!

That same year, my best friend had a not so great job and it did a real number on her self-esteem. She decided not to go back to that place. In talking with her, she knew how much I loved my school and asked if there were any openings. I talked to my mentor first about having your best friend at your school. I love my best friend to pieces, but wasn't sure we could be together all day and still be friends at night - too much togetherness! My mentor said she thought it would work out so I called my boss. I told him about my friend and, honestly, he hired her over the phone when I was talking to him! (If I ever go into another field...maybe it should be sales!) So, my best friend was hired to be an aide at my school.

I met another girl at my school two years ago, as well, and we've become great friends, too. Actually, all three of us get along really well and our principal calls us "Triple Trouble" (as a joke, of course...we are probably some of the most straight-laced people you will meet!)

So, that is the story of how my best friend got a job and my (now our) school. :) I do remember one day when I was really upset about something that a parent had said to me. I saw the woman that worked with my best friend and she asked if I wanted to talk. I told her I just wanted to talk with my best friend. So we went into another room and (being my best friend) she knew exactly what to say and I felt better in less than a minute! This other woman was in shock at how I recovered so fast and wanted to know my best friend's secret! LOL! I told her it just comes from knowing someone very well for a number of years. :)

OK, back to your regularly scheduled weight loss thread...

In other cool weight loss news, my mom surprised the heck out of me! Last night she made lasagna and garlic bread. Well, since I went to the nutritionist, I switched over to a "better" margarine and she made me a few pieces of garlic bread with my margarine! My mom knows how much I struggle, but that was one of the coolest things she has ever done for me! So kudos to my own mom! :teeth:

Debra - You are so right! True friendships never end! I'm glad you are going to write to your best friend! :)

Maria - I love Target, too! And, now, with those $1 bins...oh...it is so over! I could buy the whole store! I agree with you on the 5th graders! :)

Tara - Sorry I was to into myself before to read that you got an offer! Awesome! I have a friend who is looking for a house with her fiancee right now. I feel the excitement and the stress for you! Ah, yes I'm relaxing the last few days here before heading back. I'm excited and not - the only reason I'm not excited is exactly what you said...I'm going to be so busy that first week! Other than that, I feel very calm about everything and am ready to get to meet and know these kids! :) Oh, and thank you for your wonderful comments! You make me blush! :blush:

Linda - So jealous that you are going to Disney! Good for you! :)

Kathy - Oh, I hope you will be feeling better soon! I had surgery on my ankle in high school and it was amazing how many things I could and could not do! And I got very, very sick on the pain medication so take your time to rest and relax the best that you can! :)

Tiger - Thanks for the cheer!

I hope I didn't miss anyone! I will keep you posted on the job market for my friend...if nothing else, she has a position secured again as an aide at my school.

Have an awesome day 1 of your 13 day challenge! :)

Lisa

Morning All!!

Didn't sleep well last night....sinus drainage caused lots of coughing attacks :upsidedow Long night........

BUT I am committed to doing this 13 day challenge. Got on the dreaded scale and I am at 171.5 :eek: So my challenge going to be in the next 13 days to maintain or even LOSE :cheer2: (love that word :rotfl2: ) while at WDW........I CAN DO THIS!!!!! Have to keep chanting!!!!!

Working on the water today and going back to the 8pm cutoff for food.........one step at a time!!! Also starting in WDW will go back to wearing the pedometer.......that will be the goal for next week.

Kathy - so glad to hear from you and all went well :wizard: Keeping popping the meds and take it easy. We want you back 100%!!!! :bounce:

Debra - You know how to do this.......baby steps.......1 mile is a GREAT goal...Go for it!!

Tara - The Walking Goddess!! How did it go this morning? Have you heard anymore about the offer on the house? Keeping you in my good thoughts. :wizard:

Jen - How are things going? Haven't heard too much for you......hope you are drinking in this heat. Chicago is getting hit with rain!!! WOO HOO!!! Sending it your way.......

Come on Losers 13 is our LUCKY number :grouphug: :cheer2: :grouphug: :cheer2:

Have a Magical Disney Day!!
Linda

WEll, team, it looks like we have a firm offer...we tired of mickey mousing back and forth and just took it...it's 20k off sales price but hey, what's money? He's a relocation and will close 8/31!!! YEAH!!! Now we just have to work hard at paying off the debt of having 2 mortgages and hubby living in hotels for a year! :) Whew!!! I'll feel even better when 9/1 comes! :)

Now, for the eating....I heard a comment that 80% of weight loss is determined by what we eat...oh isn't that the case!!! Exercise is great but if we don't control the foods going in our mouths we will stall! I've walked over 50 miles in 2 weeks and while I feel my body reshaping...I have had a crappy approach to eating!!!! Tacos, pizza, hamburgers, reese cups...am I INSANE!!!! :confused3 So for day one of 13 I started out with my 4.3 mile walk...I drank a slimfast (oh I am vowing to never have slimfasts again after I finish this can...I need to live my life eating not fasting)...but for budgeting purposes I can't waste any! :) I'm checking out some different food plans and trying to add in more fruits/veggies and snacking every 1-2 hours to keep my metabolism up. Any more tips from you pros out there???

Let's kick this month into losing gear!

That is so great about your house! I am glad it is finally coming to a close for you. Soon it will all be in the past. As for reducing debt, that is a whole other kind of 'diet'. On the budget board someone suggested a book called "The Total Money Makeover" and it was really good. I am trying to work on our approach to money also, but I am not doing very well because I just offered to take my kids out for breakfast this morning. We haven't done this all summer and I realized this morning that a week from now they will be in school, and I am feeling a little sad over it, so I wanted to do something special with them (they are upstairs getting ready).

I always found that eating has a lot more to do with weight lose. I tried exercise once, and although I felt better doing it, I didn't see much of a weight lose. Dieting is what really works, and the exercise 'helps'.

For eating, I suggest that you break your calories down into what you want to eat. For me it is:

Breakast: 200
Lunch: 300
Afternoon Snack: 100
Dinner: 500
Evening Snack: 100

This is a total of 1200. Now I will go a little over or a little under, but I use this as a guide. I will also move them around as needed (skipping breakfast for a bigger lunch if I want, things like that).

After figuring out how you want your calories split up, then come up with foods that fit that. For example, for breakfast, I use English Muffins or Oatmeal and the Minute Maid 15 Calorie juice-like beverage (bought next to the Orange Juice section).

For the afternoon and evening snacks, I use those 100 calorie snack bags or skinny cow ice cream sandwiches (that are 140 calories, but close enough).

Anyway, that is all I am doing. If I know I am going out for dinner that night, I skip breakfast and the afternoon snack and try to just have the 300 calories for lunch, and save the rest for dinner.

So far, so good. I know it won't work for everyone, but it has worked for me.

Debra

A review for those of you just joining us on our 13-day challenge, based on the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962:

Day 1: A U-2 reconnaissance aircraft, piloted by Richard Heyser, reveals several SS-4 nuclear missiles in Cuba.

I realized I had 13 days until vacation so I'd better get busy!

Day 2: After learning of the missiles during breakfast, President Kennedy convenes his Executive Committee to consider America's options.

Well, it seems like everyone has been doing a great job of considering what we can do for the 13 day challenge!

Debra -- 1 mile a day is a wonderful goal! It's all hard, and taking that first step is a great beginning.

Tara -- Congratulations on your firm offer and closing! You are definitely our walking hero!

Kathy -- I'm so glad everything went well, and now you can get some much needed rest!

Jen -- Thanks again for that awesome cheer!

Regina -- Have a wonderful time while you're away!

Lisa -- Mom's are awesome, aren't they?! I'm glad yours did something very special for you.

Linda -- I know you can go to Disney, have a wonderful time, and not gain alot. And when you get back I need you to tell me exactly how you did it!

So, tomorrow will be my weigh-in. After most of this week, I would be silly to expect a loss, but maybe I'll maintain...It's the beginning of our crisis management plan, so by next Wednesday when I weigh in again, hopefully there will be a loss. Of course TOM will rear his ugly head, but hopefully he can be contained as never before!

I'll check in again tonight. Everybody stay strong, and we can do this. We are counting down from Day 13. It's on to Day 12!

Maria

Hi!! Good morning! I started off day 1 with a sorta bang!

Healthy breakfast!

Next step is getting outta my PJs and exercisin'!

Next is drinking MORE water!

Next is healthy lunch, cleaning, treating myself like the awesome chickie I am (can we say: Spa Party?), healthy dinner, sleep at a good hour!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You're welcome for the cheers everybody!
Linda-we could really use some rain! And I am drinking my water-in fact, it's beverage of choice now. Even over JUICE!!
Congrats on the house, Tara!!!
Greetings and good wishes to all! (GAGWTA!!!) <--from the DIS breast cancer thread and the only reason I know that is because I've been over there! My mom's a 10 month survivor of DCIS!
Adieu..off to officially start my day.
Hey, you guys! Did you know it's hot outside??
I would know-I was out there for 32 minutes playing tennis versus the wall! And I won! And yes, I drank a liter of water.
I smell fantastic :rolleyes: . I should shower...and lunch, but later.
Bye! I'll be back later, don't you fret!
