Hello Everyone!

I know I have been gone for a week. DS (17) had pneumonia and I just hung out with him, did the mom job to the max and just worked when I had to. I did neglect my exercise and walking, but followed diet pretty well. Didn't gain anything thing even tho didn't lose anything last week. Oh well, forward and onward.

I am going to look into that book Maria. I enjoy insipirational reading, and this sounds like it does a bit of that as well as deiting guidelines. Dona, sounds like you really enjoyed it. Alright, that will be my slurge for the holiday.

Melissa, how did the CT go? I know it will all be great! We are thinking of you! :goodvibes

CoasterAddit, how's dress hunting going? I really enjoyed my shopping for a new outfit for my birthday last September. DH and I went together, and he is so wonderful about everything with the lifestyle change and all. I think he enjoyed the shopping for a smaller size for me as much as I did.

Even though I haven't been anywhere all week, I am reluctant to go out and get back into reality. Other than work, I did have lunch with DH and best friend last week. That was it. Laundry is caught up, but I still feel as if I didn't do anything for a week.

Well, the Holidays are knocking at the door. Guess I should just let them in and have a blast!

Happy Thanksgiving to all! Great eating and healthy eating!

Hi Everyone!
I am loving "You: On a Diet"! So far we've had two of the dinners, and they were fabulous! I also really like the snacks, and I've even switched to 72% cacao chocolate. It's intense, but really satisfying. :teeth:

I haven't got on the scale yet, but my waist is already smaller! :Pinkbounc I know this because I put on a skirt this morning that was a trifle uncomfortable last week, and it went on today without a wince! I'm really hoping to lose 2 inches in 2 weeks.

Everyone hang in there and have a fantastic holiday! :ccat:
Maria

Alright, I am convinced! While out today I will check out this book. I have already tried the higher percent chocolate. We are a dark chocolate family. Target has a brand that has several flavors with their high percent cacao chocolate. If you like coffee, they have an expresso one my friend will die for.

Great job on the smaller waist. Those moments of realization are the best for motivation and rewards!

Great losses to all!

Happy Holidays!

Wendy

Hi Wendy!

I am not a coffee lover, but I tried Ghirardelli's new Twilight, which is 72%. It's yummy! I just have to remember to only have dessert every other day...

I hope your son is recovering nicely. Hopefully he'll feel good enough to enjoy the holiday.

I think you really will like the book. It explains what's actually going on in our bodies, but in a not too technical way. My local grocery store (it's a super store), was out of them on Saturday, they can't keep it on the shelves!

Happy Holidays!
Maria

Hi all,
Since a couple of folks asked...no, I didn't exactly find that "perfect" dress I was looking for. Ended up (at the last minute, of course) buying a sequined tank top and wearing it with a skirt and chiffon jacket (yay Chicos) that I already had. So, maybe not a million bucks, but 750k at least. :) I consoled myself with the reminder that real beauty comes from within anyway. :smooth: And even better news is that even with the festivities on Saturday *and* a dismeet on Sunday that involved french fries, weight remained steady. (I was mentally prepared to lose ground, so that was a real treat).

Sounds like a lot of people are fighting off various bugs...hang in there. Drink lots of fluids!

Good morning everyone. I did the You on a Diet workout this morning. This after walking in place for 30 minutes since I also have to get my treadmill fixed. The workout isn't that bad but you do feel it as you are working. I feel okay today but the real test will be tomorrow morning.

I haven't tried the recipes but I have been trying to follow the principles. I am reading labels and eating a great deal of fresh fruits and vegs. Also a lot of whole grains. I have been trying the psyllum before each meal and also getting in the yogurt as a snack. I was hungry yesterday but I didn't take the psyllum before lunch. I like the idea of a few nuts if you are feeling hungry. I am also using a smaller plate for meals. It really does cut down on the serving sizes.

Now what can I do about this box of candy that my student gave me for writing a letter of recommendation. It is the Italian candy Baci which is hazelnuts and dark chocolate. If I can manage only one piece every other day I should be alright. She also gave me a Mickey mug (do my students know me or what).

Coaster your outfit sounds great

Wendy I am glad that your son is feeling better. It will be a long winter for him. Just watch out for any and all viruses. Since his immune is down he is bound to get everyone of them.

Maria Get the book. There is a lot of reading but it makes a lot of sense. At times it was pretty technical but it does talk about all aspects of dieting including emotional.

Hope everyone has a great day.

According to the book we all need a support system. I like to think of this group as that support system. Thanks for being there.

Hi Everyone!

It's Day 4 for me on the You: Diet. I'm still loving it! I'm doing the 30 minutes of walking, eating the meals, and starting the You: exercises. I haven't taken the psyllum, I'm not big on supplements.

Once I've been doing this a full week, I'm going to measure my waist again, and I'll give a report. I know it will be good!

CoasterAddict -- It sounds like you found a great outfit! I love sequins  And even better with holding your own with the danger foods! Great job!

Dona -- I have the book from the library, I just need to purchase my own copy -- and I'll be doing that, trust me. Last night we had the Mediterranean Chicken with White Beans. It was really good! My dh has a wake to attend tonight, so I'm going to have Minestrone soup instead of one of the recipes. I'm having the Greek salad recipe for lunch today. For breakfast I had oatmeal with raspberries. Yum! I just had an apple for a snack. I'm so excited because I'm not really hungry, or when I am I grab one of the snacks. I also feel good about the way I'm eating -- and that was never the case with Atkins or even South Beach.

Wendy -- Have we converted you yet? :rotfl: I'm a great believer in everyone doing what works for them individually. So far the You: Diet is working for me, but of course you may have a system already in place that's better for you.

Melissa, Tara, Linda & everyone else -- How are you doing? Do you have a tried and true diet/exercise routine that is going great? Feel free to brag, we all need the positive energy!

Thanks for being such a great support group!
Maria

Congrats on being on it for 4 days. I have been walking since last week. I tried the exercises this morning and will try to get in a yoga routine tonight when my ds is at jazz band.

I am taking the psyllum because I have heard that it is supposed to help lower cholestrol. I will be having blood work done next week and then a visit to the doctor the following to have my cholestoral checked. If is it still high I will have to go on medication. It went up this summer even with beign 10 pounds less than the year before. My doctor has given me enough of a chance to bring it down but she is also a firm believer in heredity and what that does to your health. She says you can do all the right things but there are some things when you hit the big M that nothing can help because your family brings that to the table.

Keep up the great work. I am liking these ideas and it may be a big lifestyle change for me.

I'm here!! I'm here! Hey all! I am happy to report TOM is over and it left me a woosh! I weighed in 166 this morning..54 pounds down! Of course, the official weigh in is Sunday but I hadn't seen the 160's in soooooo long that I got excited!!!! :cool1: Since I am going to be home alone Friday I think I am going up to Chimney Rock and do some hiking. I havn't hiked in ages and I need to prove to myself that I can do it! And doing it alone challenges that fear of going places by myself. Gotta come out of that safety box. :teeth:

Dona, WTG on your walking! Keep up the good work and you will vanish in no time! I know what you mean about that cholesterol..hateful mess that is I am hoping my numbers go down this next time. I am on meds for it, ugh!

Coaster, 750 ain't shabby!! :cheer2: Sounds beautiful!

Maria, Maria...Yay on getting it going! :Pinkbounc Glad you found something that you like doing!! Sometimes that is the hardest part!

I am turning up the heat this week and from now on since I am within 30lbs. of my goal I can taste it! No cheats and gotta concentrate on the TM and weights. :yay:

Everybody keep up the good work this is a challenge week for us since Turkey Day is involved but you can do it! Keep exercising, hydrating and watching what you eat! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Congrats on the 160's. That is something that I hoped that I would have been at by now but I am not. But I have a feeling that it will happen.

I am not into hiking since that is a place where the ankle gets turned very easily and I have injured both of my in the past. My dh and younger ds love to do it. They went hiking for 10 days this past June in NM and went a couple of weekends ago. Have fun

Good morning everyone.

This has been an up and down day for me. I got up and walked for 40 minutes. I am sore from that You on a diet workout yesterday morning. My legs are very sore and I don't know why exactly. I did workout and when I got on the scale I was very discouraged since I gained 1 1/2 pounds from last week. It means in the last 6 weeks I have only lost 1 pound. I was very discouraged. That is until I got dressed. WHen I put on some pants that I had worn just the other day they were not as tight as they were the other day. The waist even seems a little big on me. This made me very happy. Between the sore legs (which always means that I am retaining water) and trying to get my digestive track back in some sort of proper order I think that I am the same as last week or maybe even better. I am going to take my waist measurement tonight and see how it changes in the next week. I am only sorry that I didn't do it last week.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving. DOn't let the turkeys get you down.

Hello everyone!

Maria--Ok, looked for the book at the local store, not available. Will have to head out to barnes and noble.! I really want to try it since I have slowed down with what I am doing now. I can always find some good advice somewhere. I am really interested in some of the excercises. That is my weak point. I do walk, but need some motivation for other stuff. The bowflex still seems to intimidate me. I still won't go on it if I am alone. HA! My doctor said to go at it slow, I'd say I've got the slow part down! :)

Dona--I too finally checked my waist. First time I measured since January. I lost 9 inches! I was so excited. I am going to look at weight and inches. It was a huge boost to see those 9 inches gone for good! Dona, I was on lipitor for a few years. It worked, but with the current weight loss and diet change, I went off it (my own decision) and it is up again, but not as bad as it was before medication. Mine is also family history. I may have to bite the bullet and start up again. It is a continuous battle.

Melissa! WOW! You rock! I bet your family is so proud of you! Enjoy your hike! Hey, how was your last test?

Coaster--still sounds like an amazing outfit! I am sure all noticed the change and how great you looked!

Tara and Linda--how are you??

Hope all have a wonderful holiday! Off to work!

Wendy

but I would like to join in. I am 5'9 and am at 163 right now. I am eventually wanting to be down to 130, but for my short term goal, I'm shooting for 150. I've been doing about 200 jumping jacks a day and thats about it for my workout, any advice? I really don't have to much time to work out. I am also trying to munch more on fruits rather then sugary sweets.

Tara

Happy Thanksgiving everyone

Welcome Tara This is a great place for support.

Hope everyone has a great day. Try to enjoy your holiday. Don't get crazy thinking about the food. Just try to keep making the good food choices you have been making for the last few months and you can make it through today.

Tomorrow is another day.

Hey Gang! I just finished my first ever 8K run (ok, run/walk) and I wasn't the last to finish either!! :rotfl: Talk about an adrenalin rush! :cool1: AND the Dr. called last night and said that my test came out clear, no change in the spot on my pancreas!!! AND last night DD and I went shopping at Eddie Bauer and I fit into a size 10 jeans and medium shirt!! :yay: We just stood in the dressing room and cried...yes, right there in the store!

Wendy thanks for asking about the test I was starting to get a little freaked out so I was glad they called and didn't make me wait until mid-December for results! Hope you are still working hard!!

Dona, it is definately not ALL about the scale!! Congrats!! Now take that momentum and run with it!!!! :cheer2: I am happy dancing for you!

Tara, welcome aboard jump right in! I am at 166 with a goal of 140 but you have me on the height :teeth: I am only 5'4. The fruits you are eating are a much better choice than the sweets. Good luck on your journey! :cheer2:

Maria, how ya doing? Still hanging in there? :sunny:

As for all of you missing in action....we miss you, let us hear from you soon. If you are lurking shame on you...talk to us!!!!!!!! :Pinkbounc

Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy and cut yourself some slack BUT get right back on track, you know you can do it!! :grouphug: :grouphug:

Hello Tara! I am a walker! Mostly because of the poor health I was in, it was about all I could do. Now, I walk faster and farther and really enjoy it. If I had a so-so day at work, the walking takes the aches out. The dog enjoyes it, and I can usuallydrag someone with me. I live in a very quiet neighborhood. Lots of walkers. And we are just 2 blocks from the high school track. I also have a treadmill for the winter months. Not as exciting, or as senic, but it does the job.

Good luck! Great to see you here!

Yeah Melissa! So glad to know your test was good! And the clothes! Oh--how wonderful! I am teary eyed thinking how wonderful it must have been to share that moment with you daughter! Tears and all! When I had to finally go shopping, I went from an 24 to an 18 and I hadn't relized how much smaller I had gotten. I am aiming for a 14. I haven't even been much smaller than a 12 (thryoid issue) but getting to an 18 was still wonderful!

Sending you a great big hug back! Have a wonderful weekend!

:grouphug:

Guess I can't just get it all in one post! :rotfl:

Hope all had a great holiday! We had a nice time. Went to the movies and came home and had fresh veggies and sandwiches. Oh, soup too. Was very nice, and very easy. Didn't miss the big hoopla at all. Was able to indulge only in the pop corn at the movies. (No butter of course!) I think we will keep this new tradition. We laughed, played cards, and didn't have to fuss in the kitchen. Yeah!

Have a great weekend! And great losses to all!

Wendy

Did you all survive Turkey Day??? I want to thank all of you for listening to my brags and downs. I really don't have a large support system and although my family is great they can't really understand the struggle. I went to Chimney Rock today and hiked 3 of 4 trails (about 6 miles) about 20 minutes of each was considered strenuous I personally believe it was A LOT more than that!! :rotfl: But I finished and that is a challenge for me...I tend to give up easily. I kept remembering the Marine saying "Pain is weakness leaving the body" it was so true. There was one spot that was a tight squeeze and after I made it through I just teared up because 6 months ago I couldn't have made it through. Tomorrow my DD and I are having a granny panty burning! I had to go buy some new underwear so I got hipsters...first time in ages!

You know we really aren't on just a weight loss journey, there is sooooo much more than just getting skinny. It is emotional (yeah, I cry alot these days). It is about breaking barriers. I find it hard to believe that in early August I lay in a hospital dying and yet this week I have run an 8K and hiked up a mountain. I have alot to be thankful for. :grouphug: Thanks again for listening.

Now get busy and burn some poundage! :teeth: Got water? :grouphug:

Hi everyone.

Glad to hear that everyone survived turkey day. I just came back from my second one. Thursday with dh's family and today with some of mine. My mom's birthday is Monday so we had to go up sometime this weekend. I did great yesterday and not too bad today. I did eat a little too much as I was cooking today but during dinner I did not take seconds. I had a taste of two of the pies they had and since I wasn't thrilled with them I didn't take any more. I came home and had a piece of my fav, cherry. The rest of the pie will go into the freezer in very small slices and when my calories are in sync I will have a piece. My son brought some desserts home from his girlfriend's. I think I will throw those out tomorrow. There are two pies left in the frig. My husband will eat the pumpkin (It's okay) and the apple is either going to school this week or going into the freezer for Christmas (I did that with the one I brought to my mother's house. NO one touched it because my sister had brought one that had already been cut. So we wrapped it up and put it into the freezer for Christmas Eve.

I did get up this morning and walk for a half an hour. I didn't feel like it when I got up but then again it was 3:30 am. I was so tired from dealing with dh's family and cooking for them and then transporting the food to my in laws house and then finishing cooking that by 7:30 I was dead on my feet. I was asleep by 8:30 so when my 7 hours of sleep were up I was awake. It is not 9:30 so I should be able to sleep a little later than that tomorrow morning. I still need to get up early since that is the only time I have to exercise. If I don't do when everyone is asleep I never do it.

No shopping for me today. I would never get any where near a store today. I usually do most of my shopping after I get out of school. It will be easy this week since ds is bowling for the bowling team every afternoon till 5 so I have a coupleof hours to get some things done before he needs to be picked up. I also intend to go on line over the next couple of days to pick up some things.

Have a nice evening everyone. Keep up the good work

Time for an official weigh in.....drum roll please.....162!! :cool1: I haven't seen that number in 10 years at least!! 12lbs to 150 and 22 to the ultimate goal 140!! This is all too unreal!! Pinch me!
