Maria, Good Luck on the marathon training. I've always wanted to do the Disney marathon but I can't because running makes my Army disability hurt A LOT! That's why I left the Army. I heard something about a skating marathon that sounds like fun. I love FlyLady!! She really helped me get my life in order. It's hard not to with all the email reminders that are sent out.

Melissa, thanks for the support. This is why the DIS is the best thing I've found while surfin' the net.

BriarRoseALS, Welcome to the group!! Good luck, everyone here is great for support.

It has been snowing here most of the day. Snow in El Paso :confused3 who knew? My kids made teeny tiny little snowmen with our 1/2 inch of snowfall, it's so cute. I have been pretty good about my eating today. No unecessary food and no soda. I did have a small cup of hot chocolate when we came in from the snow, but I kept it to one cup with a little light whipped cream. It was very good though. No weight loss, but no gain, so I'm happy.

My tip for today, one that I'm trying to do myself, is keeping a journal. I'm going to see if I can do it for 30 days to see if it will become habit. I have failed at this one so many times I'm almost afraid to try again, but I'll have one more go.

I definitely eat when I'm bored. I'm trying to do other things -- I can always find a thread at the DIS I'm interested in, and I can't put food in my mouth if both my hands are on the keyboard!

I've also been reading some really good books. I just finished "The Thirteenth Tale", and I'm starting "Plum Lovin'" this weekend.

Are you a crafter? I used to do counted cross stitch, but I've kind of stopped. I'm hoping to find a *small* project and pick it up again. I get too discouraged if it takes too long...

Here's a fun one I read the other day. Make a list of 15 places you want to visit in the next 15 years. Do some research, and start making plans for the place you most want to go.

Any other ideas?

Maria

Those are great ideas. I have a problem with boredom eating that seems to have gotten worse since DH left. I have gained two pounds already:scared1: I need to get to the library and get some books and I need to get out and try to "advertise" my Pampered Chef business which has gone WAY downhill. I would like to start offering Healthy eating shows with a great PC cookbook that I have. The recipes are great especially the deserts.

The place I always most want to go is WDW so I now get to spend the next 6 months fully planning our trip in August when DH comes home for a month. The kids are really looking forward to it.:woohoo:

I can't believe that it has been a few days since I have posted. I was doing great the beginning of the week. We had a great band dinner last week and Monday was a day off for me but I guess the day did get to me this week. I have been thinking about my grandparents this week. On Monday it was the 26th anniiversary of my grandfather's death. My grandmother's anniversary is about 6 weeks. This on top of both my parents and my dh's parents are getting older has me a little down. I know life goes on and I know how lucky I am to still have both my parents and dh's parents it has just been on my mind lately.

THis week I have to get back to work. TOday is the first day in a couple of days that I can almost breath. I have had a stuffed up head and a really bad sore throat for the last couple of days. My ears are still kind of itchy but I can swallow and I am not sneezing so maybe I am getting better and I can get back to work.

My eating has not been too great but not too bad either. I have to plan out my menus for the week and then go grocery shopping. Laundry and cleaning is also on my list of things to do. Then I have to grade tests and finish checking two calc midterms that need to be run off this week. I hate getting ready for midterms but you have to do it to see what the kids have learned.

Well I better get ready to go to church. I have to go by myself today since my dh and ds2 are camping and my ds1 likes to sleep and go by himself.

Have a healthy day everyone. Keep on track if you are doing well and if you are not join me to get back on track today.

Hello all!

Michelle, sending an extra quota of pixie dust for you! I know you will lose the 30 pounds by next August! And to have 10 days with DH at WDW. Wonderful! Enjoy planning!

People were mentioning what to do to keep from boredom eating--I read. If it gets really bad, I will pick an orgainzation project, (think organizing junk drawer) to get thru it. I used to craft, but seems I just can't concentrate to do that. I will also drive to our state park and read. Then there isn't anything there to tempt me.

But on those days that I am stuck, I will play fetch with the dog. If the weather is nice, her and I will go outside. Boy, it was so much easier not to get bored when the kids were little! :rotfl:

This weekend was good. Did have about 4 ounces of pumpkin ice cream. Low fat. Had healthy meals, but didn't get in all the water I wanted to on Saturday. Today was much better for water.

Time to get things rolling with DD so that she is ready for school for the week.

Everyone keep up the good work!

Wendy

I had been doing pretty good today. Sunday is go to a buffet with the MIL day. She loves them and pays for all of us so I go because she wants to see the kids. I usually eat a small low cal bfast and save the calorie budget for the buffet. Because I go to her house right after church, I don't have time to get hungry. Unfortunately, I have been feeling snacky this evening and have indulged a bit, but I'm breastfeeding so I have an excuse for being hungry ;). I just baught an exercise DVD to sart doing tomorrow since I can't go to the gym anymore. It's one of those dance workouts so it should be fun. I'll let you know how it goes later tomorrow. Good night ladies!

Great ideas. :)

I love reading, but I also tend to eat while I read. But, I'm trying to stop that. I've never really done crafts, but I recently made someone a "no sew" blanket and that actually turned out well, so I think I'll try to make that a regular thing. Definitely can't eat while doing that!

That research one is the favorite tip I've ever read, I think. Right now the place I want to go to most is WDW! So I've started marking interestings things down when I read them here on the boards, and I have a nice list so far. Gusto.com has been good for keeping track of things, if anyone else uses that tip. :)

Hi Ladies!

Here's my tip for today -- I'm signing up (yes, paying my hard-earned $) to do the Disney Half next January. How can I not exercise with that incentive?! I'm going to use visions of the Donald medal to get me through.

Seriously, I sort of stumbled into a a few training threads in the events section, and it is hugely motivating. I haven't felt this empowered in a long time...

Michelle, Dona, Wendy, Lennon, Melissa, Kathy -- Thanks for hanging in there and keeping this post going. Even when I don't reply individually, I am absorbing what is going on, and thinking of you each in your struggles. We can do this!

Maria

Maria I am impressed. I have been wanting to the 1/2 marathon for a long time now but I don't think that my husband would believe me.. A few years ago my sister and her husband announced that they were going to do the 1/2. They started training and even did a 5k but that was all they did with it. I would have liked to have done a 1/2 this APril but I haven't started training for it so I don't think that I am going to make it. If I can start training now for a half next April maybe he can see that I am serious and maybe 2009 will be my year. 2010 might be better because that is the year that I turn 55 another milestone for me.

Today has been pretty good. I was feeling better until I got into school and went into my classroom where is was colder in my room than it was outside. Even my cloth chair was cold to sit in. I made all the kids get their coats so that we wouldn't have to move out of the room (a royal pain). Then my nose started dripping and i started sneezing again.

Eating today has been pretty good except for some cookie dough that I ate while I was mixing but that will make my life easier this week. Our cafeteria closes during exams and they don't even sell coffee or tea. The library sets up a coffee and ... for the staff and everyone pitches in to supply the fixings. Someone always brings fresh fruit so that is not a problem and if I remember my yogurt I should be in good shape.

My dh and ds are going out tonight so I should be able to get a yoga routine in.

Have a great evening

Last night I got a call from my dr to tell me how I am doing since going on Lipitor just 6 weeks ago. My new cholestrol # is

169:banana:

It has dropped 90 points since Dec.

Dona -- :woohoo: :jumping1: I am so proud of you! I know how hard you have worked, and you have earned every point you lost! What a wonderful start to your day. I hope the smile never leaves your face today. Congratulations!

Maria

Dona that's wonderful news!! All that hard work is paying off! Give yourself a BIG pat on the back!! :cloud9:

Maria, I am so proud of you and your commitment! Signing up for the 1/2 marathon is a big deal! :woohoo: We are all here cheering for you!!

Ok, confession time for me! Yes, I am hanging my head low. I went to Atlanta for the weekend and went on an eating binge. Red meat, ham, ugh the works. I gained 5 pounds. But the good news is I am back on the wagon and it should all come off this week. I've already lost 1 pound. I start working with my person trainer tonight so that should help some.

Hope everyone is having a great week...we know Dona and Maria are!! ;)

Do something good for yourself this week....take an extra long bath by candlelight, go see a movie with a girlfriend, or get in an extra mile on your walk!! Anything that would be a hug  to yourself - you deserve it!!!

And drink your water, exercise and eat properly!! It is important!! :cheer2:

Maria - congrats for signing up for the WDW half. I am signed up to do the full to get the secret commerativie 15 yr Micky medal to go with my Donald medal I got in 2006. If you want, I can send wou a picture of the Donald medal for motivation when you don't feel like exercising. At this point, you are training to train. Get in the steps and you will do great.

Dona - WDW is very walker friendly. If you can maintain a 16 min mile for 3.5 hours you can get a Donald medal also. There is a group that hangs out on the events thread called the WISH Racing Team. We got together at POP on the Friday before the marathon. There we about 40 people there. It was nice to be able to put a face to the names. Everyone is very supportive and helpful.

We also have bright shirts with the logo on the from and a saying on the back that many people commented that got them thru this years races.
DLF>DNF>>DNS Dead last finish is greater that did not finish which is much greater than did not start. I will post a picture of my shirt to show you.

To anyone thinking about training for a race (no matter how long), you can don anything you set your mind to. I did my first half at the age of 53. I didn't really start the trianing until Oct and finished with a time of 3:24. Not a great time, but fast enough for the medal.

Hey, Hey, Hey, we are missing lots of people around here! Are you here but just lurking??? C'mon we have encouragement and lots of hugs to offer. :grouphug: It is more fun to do this as a group so POST and get involved!!! :cool1: Jump on in and tell us what you are up to!!

You never know when something you say might inspire someone else. :woohoo:

Hi Again!

Just wanted to update you on another decision...I'm back to counting the WW points. I know I need to do it so I know how much I'm eating, and since I've got this big exercise commitement, it seems like a good time.

So, here's what today looks like:

B - banana 2
S - YOU snack mix 5
L - LC Santa Fe rice & beans 5, Jello SF Pudding 1
S - green beans 0, carrots 0
D - tbd, total of 10 pts. incl. WW dessert

I'm not even sure how many points I should I have. I need to get on the scale to check for sure, but I'm pretty certain I've hiked it up to 24...so time to dial it back down!

I did my cross training 30 minutes on the exercise bike today. I went a little over 8 miles. Now, here's the test. I've gotten good and working out Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday is a rest day. Come Thursday, I never seem to make it back on the TM. This is the week!

Kathy -- I found the WISH racing team! It is so inspirational, and helpful. I am really excited. With you leading the way, how can we not get there?! I would love the picture of the Donald!

Melissa -- We all have slip ups. The fact that you are already trying again is awesome. Mine sometimes last for months...Have fun with your PT!

I feel like we are on a roll now, and we are going to see excellent progress.
Oh, I guess I should leave a tip -- My new thing this week is I am absolutely, positively not eating after dessert. That's a real downfall for me. If I decide I am starving, it's celery at the dinner table. I think I can resist that! :)

Maria

I'm still here. I just haven't been on since Sunday :scared1: Can you believe it, one whole day without the DIS. I tried a little bit of my new exercise DVD, so far I like it. Now I just need to do it all the time. I got a retainer on my bottom teeth today, so I'll be getting my bottom braces off in a couple of months:banana:   I really can't wait,it's been two years. I would liketo be able to eat a caramel apple and those roasted pecans in EPCOT at WDW in August. It's just one of those things you start to miss.

Dona Way To Go on the cholesterol drop!

Well ladies, I have to make dinner for the small fry! Good night all.

Hi all!

Well, sounds like we are all going to be working hard towards reaching our goals. We can do it!

Dona, that is great news! Give yourself a great big hug.

Ok, eating isn't so bad. Still not up to drinking enough water. Already had 3 today, but still need one more. And it is treadmill night. I can do it! Going to pick out a cool dvd to motivate myself. Sure wish I could do the boards and walk at the same time. :rotfl: Maybe in another life.

Going to finish and help DD get her ton of homework done. Tuesday's are the hardest.

Take care all, and great losses!

Wendy

I was talking to a friend tonight about my weight loss from size 20 to 8!! This is totally amazing to me and it has changed my life in ways I never would have believed. My weight had crippled me and trapped me in some unhealthy habits. My friend was asking for the trick to weight loss and I told her there was no trick. :confused3

One of the most important changes I made was freeing myself from the power food had over me. And believe me this took a couple of months to conquer. I had to ask myself if that piece of cake or cookie was more important than my self-esteem. Because if I ate that sweet and it made me gain weight I was gonna feel bad about myself. Really now, does that cake or cookie have more power over me than I have over me??? It is just food. I finally learned that the answer was and is NO WAY!!! It seems so silly but how many times do you give into that want when you know you don't need it??? :rolleyes1
