So what does everyone think of this??? Is it a good deal or not, and why???

I declined it on all three of my OKW contracts. I'll be 92 in 2042 and have no interest in extending another 15 years now and never use those years. Plus who knows what the dues will be then.

Just curious as a new DVC member. What is involved in getting the extension? Do you have to "purchase" it? Would like any info that you care to give for future reference.
Thank you.

Thank you.

It started out at $15 a point until Feb 29, 2008. Then they raised it to $20 a point. It may have gone to $25 a point at this time.

Whether you purchase it or not depends a lot on your individual circumstances.

If you look at resales those contracts which have been extended are not selling for $20/point more than non-extended contracts. So in that respect it's not a good deal.

For myself, rather than extend OKW, it seems logical one could use that money and buy a smaller resale contract at SSR or AKV instead, and have that for the next 46+ years.

Our thinking was and is much like Caskbill's. We will be 96 and 95 in 2042, so we saw no sense in extending and paying that much extra for something we have no idea if our adult kids will want to pay dues on anyway. We declined extention on both of our OKW contracts and instead purchased a small 69 point add-on at AKV (which has aonther 48 years on it anyway).

Just looking at it financially, it did not make sense at $15 a points and definitely not at $20-20 a point. Better to invest the money and buy points for a different resort as that time draws near or even add on a few points at an existing resort that expires later and use them yearly now.
