144 hour transit visa ?

wondering if we will qualify for the 144 hour transit visa or not.

OOL (Gold Coast Australia) to NRT (Japan)

HND (Japan) to PVG (Shanghai)
Staying at Shanghai Disney for 3 to 4 days

PVG to OOL (Gold Coast)

We are not certain if we qualify for the 144 hour transit visa
Since we will be leaving Shanghai and flying back to Australia.
Everything we read online notes leaving Shanghai and going to somewhere like Japan


Worse case is I’m sure we can rearrange the trip to fly from Australia to Shanghai then to Japan.
However, it’s not ideal given our set travel dates. As we are trying to get majority of our Tokyo Disney parks days on weekdays (avoid the weekends as much as possible).

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated

update:

Looks like we can't fly direct from PVG back to Australia.

So our return trip has a connection in Singapore
routing would be PVG - SIN - OOL (Australia)

would we now qualify for the 144 hour China visa?
As we will be leaving Shanghai and going to Singapore then onward back to Australia

Yep you can do this. You just have to make sure the country you're flying on to is different to where you came from. So London to Hong Kong to Shanghai to London is fine but London to Shanghai to London isn't.

So as long as it's Australia to Shanghai to Singapore to Australia that's fine. I don't think the length of stop matters (but someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

It looks like we can score much better airfare be rearrange this trip.

Here is what we are now doing and not sure if we would still qualify for the 144 hour transit visa:

BNE (Brisbane Australia) to PVG (Shanghai) Sep 23rd arrive on Sep 24th

Staying 3nights at Shanghai Disney

Fly Friday Sep 27th PVG (Shanghai) to HKG (Hong Kong)

Staying 3nights Hong Kong Disney

Fly HKG to NRT (Japan) on Monday Sep 30th

Stay Tokyo Japan 4/5nights

Flying NRT (Japan) to OOL (Gold Coast Australia) October 4th or 5th


Since we are entering Shanghai and staying for 3 nights...and then flying to Hong Kong for another 3 nights...do we still qualify for the 144hour visa?

Yep that is still covered under the transit visa!
