14 year old ordering off Kid's Menu instead of using a TS Credit?

We will only have the DDP for 4 days of our stay and are doubling up on TS meals a couple days. To make best use of our credits, and also not let them go to waste of food that won't be eaten and enjoyed, I wonder if it would be OK for my 14 year old-who-still-eats-like-an-8-year-old most of the time to order a child's menu item that I would pay for out of pocket? :confused3

Wow, that was a big, complicated mixed up sentence/question. To make it simpler, for instance, at Coral Reef, there isn't a thing on the regular menu he would enjoy eating. :sad2: Yes, he could pick at something, but it would be such a waste and he'd be hungry again soon after. I could have him just sit with us and not order, but I wonder if that particular restaurant would be ok with him ordering the child's pizza, and I would just pay for it instead of using a credit? :confused3

I think disney is like most non disney restaurants where kids meals are only for kids 10 and under. So I would probably say that they wouldn't let you order off the kids menu. Most meals are very large and my DH and I usually share so maybe you could just share a meal with your 14 year old.

Yes, he can order off the childrens menu. We went with 4 teens, 13 to 17 and all were able to order children's meals. Even places like CG and Ohana. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I have even read posts where adults order kids meals.

I order off the kid's menu almost every time I eat at Disney; I'm 18 but a very small eater. The people in my party laugh at me, (especially my brothers, who eat like food is going to drop off of the planet :rotfl: ) but the CM's don't care.

YES, THEY WILL. We went in June with two 12-year olds. We paid for the adult dining plan. Unless, it was a buffet, they ordered off the kids menu at all meals and we paid OOP. It gave us extra credits to use and it made the girls happy. Not only do they not eat very much, they wanted mostly chicken fingers and fries the whole trip.

We also would order two appetizers and two desserts and my DH and I would share one and the girls would share another. It worked out very well for us.

We were very honest with our server and explained what we wanted to do when the server took our order. Not one time was this ever a problem. (I believe we ended up with 10 or 11 meals over a 7-day stay).

Check allears.net for the new kids menu's. It's not likely an older child or adult will want to eat these and the quantities are pretty small because they are served in the those little Mickey plates like at CS places.

I thought it would probably be ok, but it's good to hear from people who have actually done this. In some restaurants, like Coral Reef, there just isn't anything that his Royal Pickiness would enjoy, so why waste a perfectly good TS credit on it? ;) I'll put that TS and maybe one other one, to good use.

Thanks!

Our son is now 19 and also is super picky. He eats his burgers and Pizza at the CS and uses some of our CS options. We use his TS for sigunature reataurants. Oh, he gets most ot the snacks too. Thats three a day. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

My Brother is 22 and if we pay for it with cash not ddp they are fine with it (Yes he still eats of the kids menu)

We were on the DDP in Sept. and our 13 year old ordered off the kids menu which we paid for OOP. It was never an issue (except at Prime Time where our waiter made fun of him for doing that - he'll never eat there again!). The kids meals are only $3.99 or $4.99 so it makes perfect sense to not waste a table service. At Alfredo's he ate my appetizer (fettucine alfredo) as his main course and he didn't finish it.

Enjoy it now as this too shall pass. His two older brothers were the same way until the "eating gene" kicked in. Now they are both 6' and are endless eating machines. popcorn::

His small appetite allowed us to eat at two more TS restaurants while at Disney. Between eating my appetizer and main course, I was too full for dessert which my 13 y.o. was more than happy to eat.

We said to the waiters "3 on the DDP and we'll pay for the kids meal out of pocket." No one was surprised by this request and no one questioned us.

Another thing you can ask for is a 'double portion kid's meal' - they will then charge it as an adult meal of course but it works great for older picky eaters. Not every restaurant would do this but several did.

My DH ordered a dessert at Le Cellier off of the kids menu.

EDIT: Ok I misread the question. Our DS was not included in the DDP (he's 2) and we never had a problem with ordering his food and being billed for it as well as using our credits.

Due to the new kids menus my DS13 will be mortified if his dinner is served on a Mickey plate  . Yours may feel the same way.

ironic that you mention ordering off the kids menu at 50's... i'm planning on doing just that. I'm 20 years old and i am a SUPER picky eater. beyond picky. i admit it! And if the waitor makes fun of me, i'll totally play along... maybe i'll even be sent to time out... i really don't care! All the more memories to be made... you really have to have the right frame of mind going into that restaurant!

I can't imagine what a picky eater would eat off the new kids menu at 50s. Its chicken salad, pita pizza, grilled chicken, mac and cheese, or chicken nuggets (4) not chicken strips like they used to have. I'd think the most picky oriented thing they have now would be the adult fried chicken. Not only is the nwe kids menu awful for kids there are plenty of adults who lived on the chicken strips too.....

Ugh, have you seen the new kids menus? You may want to rethink that! There has even been much speculation that Disney put these generic meals in place so adults would NOT order from the kids menu. If that was their goal, they may have succeed. There is not a fried chicken strip in sight!

I even ordered the kids menu in Norway.. I had pizza.. I did not like any of their food.. so I did get a pizza... and paid the adult price.. much better than all that adult yucky food going to waste
