Anyone see the interview last night?

Now if a 22 y/o man would've had sex with a 14 y/o girl, they would've drawn and quartered him. But she gets house arrest?

Double standard?

Or did they go easy because she would be every 14 y/o boy's dream come true? :scratchin

I'm sure when she was first arrested this was debated a lot on this board (I wasn't here then). But I watched the Dateline show with Matt last night and just to hear her admit that she should be in jail makes me sick. It's like she's laughing at all of it, "yes, I know I should be in jail". Or when she said that if she saw the boy she wouldn't have any bad or good words to say to him. Why would she even think of having to say bad words to him? She's the criminal! It sure is a double standard. She also complained that she had to register as a sex offender but she's not a sex offender. OKAY whatever criminal.

Yeah - I saw it and it was absurd.

My mouth was on the freaking floor when she said "he wanted it and I gave it to him"

WOW ! ! ! Wow! ! ! Nice...

Or how about the recordings??? "Pinky swear promise?!?!?" Are you kidding me?

She should totally be in jail.

She is a total nutcase. She should be in jail. I couldn't believe some of the things she said. She kept blaming everyone else for her issues and kept playing the rape card. Even if she was raped at a young age, it is no excuse for child molestation. I bet given the chance, she will do it again. :furious:

I don't know if it is a double standard. If a 23 year old man had sex with a willing 14 year old, meaning that the 14 year old was a willing participant, he would most likely get house arrest in the same circumstances/state/judge, etc. If it were a violent rape with an unwilling 14 year old, then yes, jail is necessary.

Most state laws say that a 14 y/o isn't mature enough to determine if they're willing or not. That's why minors aren't legally bound by signed contracts.

I saw this too and I think it is a double standard. Although the first case was dropped because the mom didn't want her son to testify, she still has another one coming up in the other county in which they had sex. I wonder if the mom will ask that that one be dropped as well.

I know that but there is a difference between a forceful rape and a willing participant. A high school freshman at 14 and a high school senior at 18 would fall under the statutory rape category too but when they are both willing participants the 18 year old isn't going to get jail time most likely.

I am in no way saying what she did was right, it was TOTALLY wrong but the question was is this a double standard and my answer is that in the same situation, a man would get the same or similar sentence.

But the double standard is alive and well!

Youre right. Had this been an "unattractive" woman, would they still be high-fivin' about doing the teacher?

This whole thing is absolutely disgusting. She, no if - ands - or buts - should be in jail!

i guess this question should go to men. If you think back from that age til today if a woman that age had been willing and you had acted would you have considered it rape then and now. Would it have mess up your life.
I'm a mom. If my son had been involved in something like that I would have alot of conversation about it. I might consider counseling, depending on the situation. I would consider the woman nuts. But I don't believe it is remotely the same for a young boy as it is for a girl. Part of rape is the force, the shame, the scars it leaves. I just don't see it as the same because part of rape is the societal thing. This boy I'm sure bragged to all his friends.
Now this is if it is a one time or fling type relationship. If it's screwed up Mary Kay thing where she loves you, sends you notes, has your children, then you have a whole other issue.
I'm not ok'ing it. I wouldn't be friends with a woman who would do that. My son and I would have talks. But for alot different reasons then if it was my dd.

.

Im sorry - I totally disagree.

It's illegal. It's not illegal for girls, okay for boys under circumstances. It's illegal. If it "messes up their life" or not - it's still illegal.

If I was able to steal a car off a car lot - but the car lot decided "well, we had a lot anyways - we can write it off" is that then, okay? No, it's illegal. Just like the "rape" (that *is* what she was charged with) is illegal.

I personally know a man who was molested as a child (by a woman) and there is MUCH more to it than what you are seeing. Part of the shame and destruction comes from not feeling able to say no. Most of the time, with boys and girls, they are not forced. They are coerced by people in positions of authority. And for boys, there is often even more destruction because of the double standard that they 'should have enjoyed it' or that they wanted it to happen. They are aware that people think like you do and that keeps them from seeking help for the emotional scars.

Btw, MANY girls and boys have life long issues because their bodies responded to the sexual acts during molestation. That does not mean they wanted it to happen or that it wasn't harmful.

It's a really bad message we give our boys when we act as if being molested is less harmful to them. It keeps them quiet about it, amkes them feel responsible for it and can cause many emotional and sexual issues later in life.

I watched some of it then had to turn it off. I was just disgusted by her behavior. I was disgusted she played the rape card, then she was blaming the fact that her sister was killed & made it seem as only the sister could control her. The funny thing is she said she became a teacher to protect from and educate kids about these things.

Very sad situation!

As strikingly beautiful as this girl was, did you all notice how empty her eyes were? Nothing there. No emotion.

I think the worst part of this interview came when she had her chance to apologize to this boy. And all she could say was "I have no harsh words for him". Are you really serious woman?? I lost it there.

Interesting how they brought up the whole bipolar thing. Excuse, maybe. But it got me thinking. She definitely has a whole lotta screws loose, for sure.

The whole hour frustrated the heck out of my DH and I. We just kept shaking our heads. :confused3

this is why i am looking on a man's take on this. I'm wondering if one will be completely honest about it. My sons' are past this age.
Was the woman in a position of authority over the boy. That would make a huge difference to me. That is part of what is disturbing.
I'm not saying she shouldn't be punished. There are laws and they should be enforced. I"m saying that it's possible that my oppinion on this would be different than if it had been a girl involved. I'm not saying this is because men enjoy sex more then women. I'm saying that societally the fallout for the two would be much different. I did not see the interview and have no specific knowledge about this case. I would assume a woman who would do this will be disturbed because she's a good looking girl who would have no problem finding men her age to be with.
