My DS went to Dr.'s office today for check-up. He's 5'11"! That's taller than DH and I, and taller than all the other living men in our immediate family, except my dad, who is 5'11 1.2"

I wonder how tall DS will end up...

Any guys out there who were similar height at 14? How tall are you now?

Wow, how tall is his father? Believe it or not but I'm much taller than my mother. She's only 5'1" and my father is about 5'8". I'm between 5'7" and 5'8"... so it's all a toss up, but parents do have a influence on height.

Do you have a growth chart from when he was younger. They "say" that you can double your height at age two and that *should* be your adult height. My son was just measured at 36" inches for his 2 year exam. So I'm going to be looking at a 6 footer probably. Doesn't surprise me because DH is 6'1". I'm 5'6" but tallness (is that a word?) runs in my family. It just ran right past me. :rotfl:

DH is only 5'7" and I am 5'5". My Dad is 5"11.5", but his parents were shorties. Only my Dad's Mom has tall people, her brothers were both 6'3". Apparently, the Norweigan blood is driving his growth...

On DH's side, all the men that he's aware of are shorter than 5'10".

I'll have to check with the Dr.'s office. I remember that he was always in the 95th percentile on the charts, but not what his exact height was at any point. He was 22.5" at birth though.
:earseek:

Heredity is the biggest factor, from what I have read. It is definitely not unusual for children to be taller than their parents. It's so hard to tell how tall he could grow at this point. He could have done most of his growing and be very close to done, he could also keep growing until he is 20/21. (LOL, you do know that he will be at least 5'11', so that is one answer)

He is in the highest percentile for his age right now, but has he always been in the higher percentiles? Because a growth spurt could have put him there temporarily, but if he was in the highest percentiles for most of his life...I think he would be really likely to be exceptionally tall when he is done growing. Then again, you just never know.

My 12 year old son (turns 13 in February) is 5'9" :sunny:

He is already in a size 13 shoe - :rotfl2:

Funny enough, he wears the same size clothes as he did last year - he is just moving up , not out.

If you do a search on Google..."how tall will my child be?'" there will be several websites that you can plug in his current age ( to the month) and height and it will tell you how tall a child will be full grown. My DS12 is 5'8" and weights 155 pounds...he also wears a size 12.5 shoe!! I am 5'9", Dh is 6'...my father is 6'4" and my mom is 6'...I have 2 brothers and a sister...I am the shortest one in my family...well actually I think my sister is the same height as me. Dh's family...I am taller than everyone...DFIL is 5'9" and DMIL is 5'1"
Brenda

Then he will be at least 5'11". Thats the only thing you can know for sure. My dad was 5'7" at age 11 and hes 5'7" now, so it just depends on his personal growth pattern.

Sounds familiar. DS wears the same size as last year too. He has always worn clothes too large and too long, so he's grown into everything at this point. He'll have to have all new for back-to-school though.

yeartolate...looks like our son's could be "twins" my DS12 will not be 13 until March 1st. How much does your DS weight?

I guess you're right. I don't really care how tall he'll be, I'd think he was perfect if he were 7' tall (however, he'd better play for the Knicks and give his mom and dad a nice retirement!)

ROFL!!! A word of caution- I just tried this, and it predicted that my DS would be 6'8"...

He's definitely going to be tall, but I think that's a bit extreme. At least, I HOPE that's extreme!

LOL, I am much taller than my mother also. She is 5'2" and I am 5'9", my father was 6 foot (not exceptionally tall). My DH is 6'5". My son is currently 6'1" (at 16), but I do not think he is done growing because of his shoulders, arms and feet...he still looks like a puppy.

My 19 yo DD is only 5'7" and I think my 12 yo dd will pass her up because she is already 5'6", much taller tha her sister was at this age. (with girls, you can usually go by menstruation...they tend not to grow tons after they start)

I just went to this site and it predicted both of my sons to be 6'2". I checked different ages/weights and it was consitently 6'2".

140 last time I checked.

Doubling his 2 year height would make him 6'10" --- :rotfl2: :rotfl2: My son was a smidge over 2 feet long at birth - footling breech at that - thank goodness he was only 9 pounds. :goodvibes

Actually I shouldn't laugh, there was a maternal grandfather and paternal greatgrandfather that were about that height.

I did it too! On one site it said my son would be 5"9 and on another 6'1". Who knows? Though I am pulling for the 6'1" (I'm a shorty myself)

Ummm...

Using the calculator Beth76 just posted, DS would be 6'9". This is getting worse... :scared:

Anybody know of a good basketball camp? :confused3

Beth, I tried your link and it states my oldest with be 6'5" and my youngest will be 6'1". So I will be looking up rather soon. My oldest turned 11 in May and is already about 5'4" and wears an 8 in mens shoes. Lately he has been growing at the rate of 1/2-3/4" a month. I can't keep him in clothes.

My DS wears a size 12 shoe. Currently he's wearing the old-fashioned hightop Converse basketball sneakers (Chuck Taylors) which are kind of long and narrow. He looks like he has clown feet! :rotfl:
