14 y/o DS is 5'11"! How tall will he be?

My DS wears a size 12 shoe. Currently he's wearing the old-fashioned hightop Converse basketball sneakers (Chuck Taylors) which are kind of long and narrow. He looks like he has clown feet! :rotfl:

I already knew I was in for some trouble with him and his rate of growth. Now I have a image in my head of what I have to look forward to.

Yeah, between his long skinny feet and his huge hands, he reminds me of a puppy who hasn't grown into his paws yet!

DH is 6'5 - he said that he was about 6 foot when he was a 14.

When I was 8, the ped told my parents that I would be 5'8 as an adult (based on my current height). I never got past 5'4 - I don't believe those guesstimates, personally ;)

My boys father is/was 6'5" and TJ is right on track for being that tall. He has always been in the 90+ percentile in height since birth.

My grandson was about 5' 11" at 14 and just turned 16 and is 6' 1". His growth has really slowed down. His other grandfather is 6' 5" and played with the Celtics for a couple of years in the mid-1960's and was All-American at the University of Cincinnati, in I believe 1964. The grandson doesn't care for basketball at all. I'm 6' 1".

A lot of tall boys stop growing around that age so you never know. My BIL was 6'4" in 8th grade and he is now 40 years old and 6'4". DS13's best friend is supposed to be 7 feet tall when he is done growing. They did a lot of growth testing on him because he was so tall, they feared he had Marfan's Syndrome. If you look at 8th/9th graders and compare them to class pictures of 4th/5th grade, the tallest kids then are often very average later, but not always. The only real way to know their height is to do the bone x-rays and check the space left in the growth plates.

DS15 (today is his birthday!) is 6'3", and according to this height predictor will be about 6'5". (DH is 6'6"). DD13 is 5'11", and according to the same height predictor she's done. DD6 is 4'4", and it says she'll be 5'10". All of that sounds reasonable to me.

For girls a good rule of thumb is they will be done growing about 3 years after they get their period. It may be only an inch or two after that, but that is a good indicator of when they are 'officially' done.

Gosh, I'm trying to remember how tall my boys were at 14. I'm thinking close to 6 foot, at least 2 of them were. They are now:

6'6 at 26 yrs old
6'2 at 19
6'4 at 17

DS 16 is 6'2" with a size 12 shoe... predicted to be 6'6" by early growth chart patterns.

DS 14 is 5'11" with a size 11 1/2 EEEE shoe.... predicted to be 6'8" by early growth chart patterns.

DS 16 grew 2 inches while hospitalized with GBS... boy was that a shock! He could not walk and then when he was finally able to stand he was HUGE!

Anyway, DH and I are both about 6'1" and neither of the boys has had their "big" growth spurt yet. They'll be happy if they are taller than us.... the rest is icing on the cake! :teeth:

I have one 14 y.o. nephew who is 5'4", and another who is 6' tall. Definitely genetics in these two cases.

I'm not sure how much stock I'd put in any of these height calculators. Everyone has a different growth pattern.
My mother is 5'7" and my father was 6' 3".
My oldest brother is 6'5"...however...he grew 8 inches when he was 16 years old.
I grew 4 inches when I was 16 and my full grown adult height is just over 5'8".
Both of us were short to middle of the pack until senior year.
My husband is 6'3".
I did the calculator for my 2 sons....and it put them at 5'11" and 6'.
That seems very odd and somewhat on the short side considering the family genetics....Especially for the younger one who has consistently been the tallest kid in his class.
This may sound odd...but I'd look at the shoe size. Despite the fact that I didn't grow until I was 16, my foot was a size 8.5 at the age of 11....it took years to grow into my feet! Now they are a 9...after 2 kids.

True, they are based on averages, and everyone won't fit the same growth pattern mold. But they still seem to be a good predictor as long as you recognize that you might not fit the average and use the info with a grain of salt. :)

DS just turned 13 last week. 6'2". Size 13 shoes. Mom 5'10", Dad 6'2".

So it's a pretty sure bet he'll be taller than 6'2", we're just worried about when he'll start to slow down.

You never can tell. My husband was 5'7" at 11 years old. Today at 39 he is..5'7". :rotfl:
The doctor told his mother that he was going to be around 6 feet.
His Dad is only 5'8", and he too stopped growing around 12 years old.

My son and daughter have always been in the 90th% for height and the ped is always like yeah i can see where they get it from Hardy har har ;)
He says he thinks they will be tall, DD around 5'7" and DS close to 6', but with the way my husbands family grows tall fast and then stops, I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm 5'4", average, but not someone who is likely to have tall children. My dad is 6'4" so maybe it will skip a generation. :confused3

ROFL!!! A word of caution- I just tried this, and it predicted that my DS would be 6'8"...

He's definitely going to be tall, but I think that's a bit extreme. At least, I HOPE that's extreme!

It said my son will be 2' 11" :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

which is about 7" shorter than he is now :rotfl:

My oldest DS is 12 and is 5'10". He wears a size 13 shoe. We just did a second run for clothes this summer. He is killing my bank account. He just grows and grows.

At his 12 yr check up, Dr said he could grow about 6 inches during puberity and then some.

If I double his height at 2 he will be 6'8".
