14 Happy Meals? Really?

I disagree.

There is nothing that implies the drive up window is for small, simple orders. The drive up window is for convenience if you have a baby sleeping in the car, or a dog, or an infirmity or lots of other reasons.

But it doesn't mean it is going to be quicker to use it.

Although I may be mistaken, I don't eat fast food, and there may be an unwritten rule of some kind that I am unaware.

Cathy

But there's only ONE (usually) drive up whereas there are multiple registers inside.

I know there are no "rules" for the drive through but come, have *some* consideration for those who have to wait what might be the equivalent of 7-14 more cars in line than it appears. If I saw that many cars in line, I'd drive on by.

We don't call the drive thru the "sit and wait" for nothin!

That is one of the many reasons why I don't like fast food very much. However, when we occasionally eat out, and the car in front of me has a big order, I take deep breaths, and think as though I were in that persons shoes.

I do fid in very interesting, that on a board full of people screaming about entitlement issues, that some of these same people think it is ok to hold one single line up for 14 orders. At least if you are inside you had an option of switching lines, in the drive through you don't. I find it VERY inconsiderate to go through the drive thru and have 14 orders. To me, that and the attitudes here of too bad, I have a right to go through drive thru, even with 14 orders SCREAMS entitlement. JMHO.

I always scope out the lines - if I see 7 cars in the drive-through & 3 people in line inside, I park the car and go in (even if I'm getting it to go).

I think instead of spending $45 on Happy Meals, I'd have rather spent $20 on 4 large pizzas from Little Ceasar's & picked a few 2-litre bottles of soda though :)

I didn't see anything about 14 orders. It was 1 order with 14 items, no?

I've actually been in drive-thrus that have signage stating that if you are placing a large order, to please go inside.

But that doesn't mean that every drive thru is for small orders only.

Ok so I worded it wrong. 14 happy meals, way too many not to mention, special order happy meals.. sorry, but I don't think it is polite to make everyone behind me wait for 14 meals. And no, ours wouldn't make you pull out of line for that.

There are multiple lines inside.

I am from New England and I agree with the OP. DT is for quick orders and meant to be speedy! I get peeved if the dt moves slow. Especially for my coffee!
I live in NE also and have never heard this, not even from people that work at a McDonalds or other fast food place. They will just have you drive up a bit and then bring your order out to you when it's ready, that way it doesn't hold up the people behind in the line.
The CAPS finally convinced me, I was on the fence until now.
:rotfl2:

You are very snarky which is unessesary especially since I quoted the original poster because she seems to think it is an express line, but if that's what makes your day...
Your yelling was also unnecessary.

I've never heard of one. Please tell us what the "unwritten rule" entails.
I think I missed the memo also, I have never heard of this rule.
Go inside! The drive thru is for those on their way to work in a hurry! To the previous poster, I agree Dunks is the best example. I have seen people fight in the drive thru line! Drive thru road rage! Get in and get out, otherwise go inside. ANyone who is going to order 14 meals should plan ahead on how to carry them. They need to get them inside their house right?
Dang, missed another memo. What about the other "off" times. Most people go to work in the morning and most have to be in by 9 or so, right? So, is 11 okay to go if I'm not going to work? It should be dead than.

Oh, but wait, there may be early lunch people and I don't want to infringe upon the limited amount of time that there companies give them for their lunch time, so maybe I should wait till later. Would 2 be okay or would I get in the way of all the second shifters grabbing a big mac before work?

Oh, this is just to confusing!!!!! How will I get my Big Mac fix and yet, still remain in my car? Maybe I can pay one of these workers some money to get it for me?

And what kind of drive thru are you going to that have actual fights in them?
Hmmm....I don't work outside the home. Am I allowed to even eat McDonalds?:duck:
Only if you go inside!;)
The original drive thrus at Mickey D's were meant to be a convenience, I worked one of the first ones. There were, and are, no rules as to who can and cannot use them. If there were rules as to who can use a drive thru, then they would be posted. Since there aren't any rules posted, anyone who has a desire to use them, can.
Not trying to make you give away your age or anything, but when did they start drive thrus?
I've actually been in drive-thrus that have signage stating that if you are placing a large order, to please go inside.
Wow, I have never seen that before. What state did you see this in?

The poor person who was infront of me this morning at the McDonalds drive thru probably thought that I had ants in my pants. I may even be the topic of drive thru rage on another message board "I was only getting a large coffee and there was this crazy person behind me flashing their lights and honking their horn...really what is wrong with people!"
I had a sick little one at home and my DH stayed home with him. There was no need for me to take the minivan with the car seats, so I took our Yaris. I am not used to the windshield wipers being on the right hand side of the steering wheel, so I went to turn on the wipers and the head light switch is where the wiper switch is in the other car. I pull up behind her ordering and flashed my lights. I saw her look back at me...Me..sheepish smile. Pull around the corner behind her paying. Yep did it again (ok I was really not thinking this morning). She is at the window getting her order and I had just paid. I was putting my money back in my wallet when I dropped my change on the floor, so I bend down to get it and hit my head against the horn. She was probably thinking what is wrong with this crazy person!!!!
:lmao::lmao:That is hysterical. Good thing you weren't in one of the drive thrus mentioned up thread, you may have gotten in a fight with someone. :rotfl:

In the drive thru you always have the option of parking your car and going inside or in leaving and wasting probably more time in driving somewhere else, parking your car, and going into a gas station. In all the time it took the OP to do that, she would have probably been out of the McDonalds parking lot.

Personally, I would go in, but only because I would want to make sure that the orders where correct. They are bound to screw something up!

Come on. It is a drive through. It is not an entitlement issue or rude or selfish to place a large order. There is no 10 item limit like at an express lane in the grocery store.

I think some people need to unclench.

What if I had 14 people in my car? Is there a limit to how much you are allowed to order at once?

The only time I do the drive thru is for coffee at Dunkin' Donuts, and I would consider that something that is fast/express. A lot of people go there just for coffee on the way to work. There's actually at least one DD that I know of that doesn't allow people to order hot food in the Drive Thru line during the morning commuting hours-I think between like 6-10am. I'm from the Boston area and this particular DD is on Route 9 in either Wellesley or Natick heading towards Boston. They have a sign posted that says they don't do breakfast sandwiches in the drive thru during those hours and to go inside if you want to order one, because it holds up the line.

If you had 14 people in your car, you need to go inside. It is rude to keep one line waiting for 14 orders in one car. PERIOD. In my opinion. No amount of wording it, or saying different people, or individual, or group orders will change my mind. If you drove up to a drive thru and saw 14 cars in front of you, most likely you wouldn't wait, it is the same thing. To think that others should wait on your 14 orders so you don't have to go inside is rude, and entitlement at its finest.

:lmao: That is hilarious. So what is the magical cut off then? Only 3 items per order or you go inside? Maybe 4? Is 5 OK or are they entitled?

I find it crazy that you seem to think the drive through is your personal express lane and have determined for yourself a magical limit on what can be ordered (and is 4 OK as long as there are no customizations or are they entitled if they ask for special things?) and what people have to do. I also find it funny that you somehow think it is better to make people wait inside vs in their car. Inside is fine, drive through isn't..why is that? I don't buy the "multiple line" thing because I don't see it at all..as I mentioned depending on the time many times the drive through and counter person are one in the same so in your car or inside people have to wait for multiple orders.

Also as many have pointed out this person would NOT have sat at the window until all 14 items were ready..she would have been asked to park and it would be brought to her. You don't seem to get that either. The guy ordering his morning coffee would have taken only a couple minutes less to place and order than this lady.

No amount of wording or complaining on your part can make me agree with your "opinion" on the matter either.

Actually, what you are proposing sounds pretty entitled. How dare these people get in front of you and order, what you consider, is a large amount of food. Don't they know how precious your time is? How dare they make you wait!!!! They are just not as deserving of the drive thru and you and other with your short orders! :rotfl:

That whole entitlement argument can be twisted both ways. The bottom line is that unless there is a sign stating that you are only allowed to order X amount of items in the drive thru, then anyone can order as much as they want.
