14 Happy Meals? Really?

If you are going to order 14 happy meals, yes 14, with special orders ( no onions on 2 of them, no mustard on 2 of them, no pickles etc etc) PLEASE GO INSIDE NOT IN THE DRIVE THROUGH. It was the most bizarre thing I have ever seen. Some of this person's questions after ordering 14 happy meals:
"Do you have french fries"
Uh yea
"Do you have grilled chicken sandwiches?"
Yep
"Can I get grilled chicken sandwiches?"
Yes, how many would you like

that was about all I could stand before getting out of there as the drive thru line grew and grew. If it is your first time at McDonalds, and you are ordering enough for a million people, please go inside.

Guess who I was behind today while trying to get my large diet coke. Ended up stopping at the gas station instead.

Hang on, you sat behind this person while they ordered then got so infuriated with the wait in ordering you drove off only to post a complaining thread here? You got ants in your pants or something?

You do realize once they placed that order and paid for it, they'd be asked to pull aside while the kitchen readies their order? The only thing you escaped from was the 2 minute delay in ordering NOT delivery. Is your time really that fleeting?

I order at drive-thrus now too. I'm disabled so for me it is a major convenience. I don't need to struggle in/out of my driver's seat to wheelchair then out of the van only to struggle with a heavy door to enter the place (usually two doors in McDonald's) just to get some McNuggets. It takes me an extra minute or so to handle the money and food exchange across the window because my reach is impaired.

Occasionally I'll encounter some impatient fool behind me who can't stand being inconvenienced for even a minute. That just makes me want to take even longer.

Chill out. Drive-thrus are not just used the way you think. This thread has shown you that. And if you'd had just a minimum of patience you would have driven away with your order before this person even had theirs. Your haste let to a great deal of waste.

I would be more upset at having to wait behind someone just getting a large Coke. That order takes up just as much space in the drive-thru as the one one getting the 14 happy meals. What next, certain gas pump aisles for specific dollar amounts?

The Drive Thru is there for everyone....and my thought has always been that it is suited for folks who don't want to get out of their car for whatever reason. It would never occur to me that you couldn't or shouldn't place a large or complicated order there. No matter how you order, the order has to be filled.

:thumbsup2 :worship:

My MIL told me that the drive in is only for lazy people :rotfl2: She says only people who are too lazy to get out of their car and walk inside use the drive thru (she made the mistake of telling me that on a day that my infant was sick and I had just left the pediatricians office and went to pick up a prescription at the pharmacy). She now understands that there are many good reasons beyond laziness to use the drive thru :lmao:

Not to go off topic but drive thru pharmacies are the most awesome thing ever when you have a sick kid!

I'm with you, OP. And I agree that orders get terribly muddled using the intercom system.

Not at the McD's I go to in the morning...I have never seen them have someone move forward and have sat in the line for over 5-10 minutes while waiting for them to get their food. I used to just sit there and silently fume. I have learned my lesson now, if there are more than 3 cars in that line I skip it because I know it will be a long wait. Worst McD's in my area..but the only one on my way to work. Now, it works out good because I'm not eating that garbage as much and I can go to Tim Hortons and get a bagel in half the time even with a line 5 times as long.

Well said!

I am actually so shocked by the responses, I had to post a poll. I have always been under the impression the dt was for simple and quick. I have always gone in if I had anything complicated or special order that might tie up the line.

I have never assumed that. It is for whoever wants to use it.

If you actually read the post I quoted it specifically stated that drive thru's are for people on their way to work and in a hurry and that is what I was responding to.

Hmmm...snippy huh?
I was actually agreeing with you while being sarcastic about drive thrus only being for people who are on their way to work in a hurry.

I can be just as impatient as the next person, but I have always just assumed the drive thru was for any take out orders, of any size. If I have to wait a couple of minutes longer then so be it, it's just the nature of it. Same thing could happen inside. Or at any other sort of business where they serve the public.

Usually if I find myself running late, it's probably my own fault for not leaving a few minutes earlier. Not the fault of the person in front of me.

+ 1

I've actually been in drive-thrus that have signage stating that if you are placing a large order, to please go inside.

I guess I'm not seeing what the big deal is. At any McD's I go to around here, if you have a big order in the drive-thru, they'll just ask you to pull up and wait, then they'll bring it out. So it's not like Ms. 14 HappyMeals would be sitting there clogging up the food window

With a family of 7, we tend to deplete the hot french fry supply at McD's, so they typically have us pull up and wait a few minutes. I pull up and others continue to order and recieve their food.

I don't think I've ever given thought to what people ahead of me are ordering. I have some hearing loss so I can't make out what they are saying into the squak box anyhow ;)

There are multiple lines inside.

I am from New England and I agree with the OP. DT is for quick orders and meant to be speedy! I get peeved if the dt moves slow. Especially for my coffee!

New Englander here & former McD's employee. D/T is for fast orders. We had a 1:30 limit from order to serve. We hated when people had large orders or when they had more than 1 order per car.

The poor person who was infront of me this morning at the McDonalds drive thru probably thought that I had ants in my pants. I may even be the topic of drive thru rage on another message board "I was only getting a large coffee and there was this crazy person behind me flashing their lights and honking their horn...really what is wrong with people!"
I had a sick little one at home and my DH stayed home with him. There was no need for me to take the minivan with the car seats, so I took our Yaris. I am not used to the windshield wipers being on the right hand side of the steering wheel, so I went to turn on the wipers and the head light switch is where the wiper switch is in the other car. I pull up behind her ordering and flashed my lights. I saw her look back at me...Me..sheepish smile. Pull around the corner behind her paying. Yep did it again (ok I was really not thinking this morning). She is at the window getting her order and I had just paid. I was putting my money back in my wallet when I dropped my change on the floor, so I bend down to get it and hit my head against the horn. She was probably thinking what is wrong with this crazy person!!!!

I worked the Dunkin Donuts drive-thru throughout college, and we also had a 1:30 time limit. We just asked any car with a large order to pull forward and park. It wasn't a big deal/hassle at all.

Not disputing your experience, just offering my (slightly) different one. :hippie:
