Oh C.Ann I hope it turns out OK. What a freaking mess this has turned out to be.

What is with the medical profession in your area? I mean honestly!! :furious:

I've read your other thread about this too. It would tick me off to no end. I'm kind of in the same boat. I take meds for Panic/Anxiety attacks. That seems to be all my doctor (PCP) could focus on...obviously any other complaint I came in with HAD to stem from my Anxiety issues. What a butt. I "fired" him and told him exactly why. I found a new doctor who is wonderful. Takes the time to listen to me and whats going on. I know ER docs are a whole different ball game but with a good PCP, she could circumvent that with a call put in to him or her as soon as she either A. knew she was heading to the ER or B. as soon as she got there.
I think you live close to me don't you? Lots of hospitals to choose from.
Good luck to her.

C. Ann I so sorry, your poor DD. I hope she's feeling much better very soon.

Her PCP (who she officially "fired" the other day) is every bit as bad as the ER doctors.. Everything she has ever had - or will have in the future - is due to "depression".. Shoot - even her injuries from her car accident last March were tagged as "depression related".. Let's see - cervical sprain and 2 ruptured disks - among other things.. Yup - I know TONS of people who have received the same type of injuries from a car accident, so obviously they are ALL "depressed"..

There's got to be SOME way we can put an end to this nonsense - I'm just not sure how..:confused3 People should NOT be black-listed because they take meds for depression and/or anxiety..:furious:

I feel so bad for your DD, it is BS she has to go through all this. People wonder why I dont want to take meds for depression, gee I know why.

Oh man, that stinks. I have heard that is really, really painful. Hoping she feels better soon.

Well thank God you were there to be an advocate for her. When this is all over, I would write a very detailed letter to the CEO or DON and share your experiance. It is totally uncalled for but unfortunately, some of these doctors have you diagnosed before you ever tell them whats wrong.
Did they do the blood patch? I've heard that makes a world of difference.

Complications from the lumbar puncture.. :(

When she woke up today she had the worst headache ever - with pain shooting up and down the entire length of her spine, to the point where she was vomiting.. Called the ER and they said to call 911 - she was having complications from the lumbar puncture..

We get to the hospital and the ER doctor (different one than the one she saw the other night) starts his crap right away when he saw she takes meds for depression.. He wanted to know "why" she was back again and when I told him the ER instructed me to bring her in by ambulance because it was complications from the LP he had the freakin' nerve to say, "The ER told you ALL that??" And then had the nerve to laugh - like I made this up out of the clear blue sky.. (Yeah - we just LOVE spending 12+ hours in the ER - it's a real hoot..:headache: ) I wanted to slap him across the room, but instead I just very clamly told him I didn't like his attitude, he obviously was interested in nothing but the fact that DD is being treated for depression and I wanted someone from neurology IMMEDIATELY.. Guess he knew I meant business, because in 20 minutes a neurologist arrived.. He was very pleasant; did a thorough examination; said that he was fairly certain that she had a leakage that would require hydration and a blood patch and he would order something for the pain immediately.. He also said that he was going to order an MRI because he had some concerns about the prior headache and wanted to rule out the possibility of anything going on in her brain.. He strongly advised that she be admitted and the ONLY time he mentioned her meds for depression was to be sure he had the correct dosages and the times that she needs them so they could be administered properly..

So - my son-in-law is with her now and I'm back here waiting for the other grandparents to bring my DGD home..

Were it not for the possibility of drug interactions, I would strongly advise my DD to NEVER tell ANY doctor that she is (or has been) treated for depression.. I guess people who suffer from depression never "really" get sick - it's all in their heads..

I'm sorry to hear that. :( I am on meds for depression and have been for many years. I went to my gyno once because I was having really horrible pelvic pain and she told me (before examining me) that sometimes when women feel like they're not getting enough attention they make up symptoms. Um, no....I don't really enjoy paying a dr. for 'made up' symptoms.

Your poor, poor daughter...what a thing to have to go through!

I also got a spinal headache after a myleogram back in October. Luckily the blood patch (and an IV full of caffeine) worked right away. I did have a slight headache for a week after, but it was very minor and more of an annoyance than anything else. However, the whole experiance was NOT FUN!

Best wishes to her (and to you of course). I hope things calm down soon so you can enjoy your trip down to FL.

I'm so sorry to hear that your daughter has been in pain. I'm glad the neurologist prescribed pain control for her. Hope she is 100% better very soon.

Aaack, That is just as bad as C.Ann's story. What is with these Drs? What kills me is that there is this big push to get rid of the stigma of anxiety/depression but the support just is not there and yes, I agree everythign gets blamed on that. DD got counseling two years ago for anxiety issues. We are now looking into finding out if she has ADD. Yesterday was teh parent consult with the therapist and I cannot tell you how often she brought up the anxiety thing. Okay, YES DD still has some anxiety issues but it is NOT like it was then and that is not what is going on with her now. (In fact I think many symptoms were prob ADD then and we ascribed them to anxiety.)

:grouphug: to all of you and what you're going through. I hope your DD feels much better soon. I hate that they label depression like that. It stinks! My prayers are with her.

C.Ann, I'm so sorry to hear about all this! I really hope your DD gets the help and treatment she needs from some sensible drs.

We had similar problems with my mom's treatment because she had Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID - it's essentially Multiple Personalities). Anytime she was injured or sick, the Drs. just wanted to say it was all in her head. :furious: At the same time, it was very difficult for her to progress in her mental health treatment when she was in major pain from PHYSICAL ailments that the Drs. refused to test for or believe were there. We finally found a great physician who worked with her mental health drs. and mom had the surgery she needed for a slipped disk in her back and had a hysterectomy and begain improving in all kinds of ways.

And don't even get me started on insurance companies and the billing issues we had with them...

I didn't read your other thread but just wanted to say I hope your DD is feeling better. The depression seems to be a double-edged sword. They want people to seek help for depression and be open and honest but then they attribute every symptom you have to it and use it against you. It is not uncommon to get the worst headache of your life after a lumbar puncture with a leak. You think that would be the first thought the ER doc had too. I would recommend writing a letter to the hospital though. I had a very bad experience with my son once when he had a broken leg. . . so bad we took him to a different hospital. I did write the director of the ER and I named names. I did get a letter back and he said they had changed procedures (I know this is probably BS) but writing the letter made me feel better. Glad your DD has you for support because it sounds like you don't take any crap! ;) Hugs to you and your DD.

C.Ann, I'm sorry to hear about everything your dd is going through. I had a leakage from my spinal tap years ago and thankfully the blood patch worked right away. The headache from the leakage was the worst so I really feel for your dd.

:grouphug: :grouphug: to you all!

I'm so sorry your daughter is going through all this. It's bad enough to be sick, but then when people don't believe you it must be awful. I would have been mad too. What an arrogant doctor!
My DS takes medicine for ADD, which also helps with his anxiety. But when he tells me he is sick, he is really sick. He's not just making it up. I would be furious if I took him to the doctor and the doctor blamed all his symptoms on anxiety.

Doctor's should never assume an illness isn't real. That's incompetent.

I hope your daughter feels better soon. She has sure been through so much lately (and you too).

My husband had this about 6 years ago. It was the WORST headache he had ever had. They did a spinal tap on him (by an intern who screwed up), and she punctured something. We had him in and out of the ER 3 times total. Finally he went to his family DOC who was royally peeved at the way his case was handled. Basically DOC gave my DH a shot of Demerol so he could rest, AND he was fine after that. Just a side note to this, they wanted to give DH a blood patch as well and family doc was sooooo mad and said this hasn't been done for years and what were they thinking!! If all else fails again, ask about the Demerol - it was they only thing that worked for my DH. He slept for about 20 hours!! Woke up feeling fine again.

I'm glad you were there C.Ann. I hope she's feeling better.
