$130 point for BLT

Just received a "heads up" message from our guide. It is in fact going from $120 to $130 on Dec. 1st.

As PP Disney has a reason for everything that they do. Their pattern of giving a warning that prices are going to increase, increasing prices, then offering a discount, seem to work well to increase sales.

One thing that us DISers seem to forget it that the vast majority of members, don't use the internet to keep up with what's happening with Disney or the DVC. All they know is that their wonderful Guide made a special effort to contact them about a pending price increase, and many will buy a add on.

I think this is partly true. They really haven't given us any warnings, have they? :goodvibes

Two points:

1. By leaking a price increase perhaps the feeling is that it will spur immediate sales to meet year end goals;
2. Timeshares are sold in an entirely different manner than most products - high pressure tactics without obvious competition. It would be interesting to know how many DVC purchasers buy direct from Disney versus resale contracts. What percentage of people even know that the resale market exists? Perhaps the feeling is that there are enough potential buyers in the "captive audience" market to satisfy sales goals.

Still time to do that. 12/1 is still six weeks away. They could even hold the $120 price beyond 12/1 for existing members. DVC has done that quite frequently in the past.

Disney operates on a fiscal year we are actually in the first quarter of the 2011 year.

That said, DVC does seem to have a habit of trying to jump-start sales in the fall...perhaps to get the year off to a strong start. Better to coast in the 4th Q if you've already made your goals, I suppose.

More often than not, DVC has sent out mailers giving advance notice of price increases. Got one for Aulani about 10 days ago. They don't usually rely on leaks for a sales bump--they'll come right out and tell folks about it.

i think most people dont have a clue about the resale market and because they trust the Disney brand name they will happily buy from Disney. The resale market is tiny compared to direct sales with Disney.

Yes, if they do increase the price to $130 it will make my "investment" in BLT better. I bought in at $106 / point, so I'm happy with that.

I don't see it that way. We bought at $96 and I am sure that in a couple of years, BLT resales will be selling at $90.

I just purchased another 100 points.Came out under 12K they are promoting something I forgot,, wife just made me send the check..Think they are like 60 percent sold out if not more...

Listen NOTHING IS FREE ! if you enjoy it , you PAY.. bottom line..

Now I have 300 points a year, and go down twice a year. would not trade it for the world..:yay::yay:

Actually, it's already there. BLT is listing at about $100, but the actual sales are in the low $90s.

Wow maybe my guide was telling the truth that prices will only go up! lol Since we bought in Feb they only have gone down!!!!

Bottom line I agree with New York Digger, I am going to Disney at least 2 times a year in the type of accomadations I want and love!

They just raised the price to $120 per point recently. I doubt they will up it again. Unless sales are going through the rough.....which doesn't seem likely.

Actually, BLT went to $120.00 last year. I believe it was in October for new members a a bit later for current members.

I think the fact that they did just raise SSR to $120 makes it feasible that BLT will go to $130.

And, BLT, in spite of its higher price, has been selling--maybe not as fast as they had hoped as it has now been in activie sales for 2 years but definitely leading the way.

hey I feel for the guides - now can see selling BLT at $130 - but SSR at $120 when the resale market has it at $67 (sometimes less)

that is just too much difference.

why pay disney $120 when resales is half that.

now disney will still rebuy BLT it falls belows what they can sell it for...

Just emailed out guide to see what he said about the price increase.

Anyone know what the current promotional pricing is if you are not at WDW?

My take on this is Disney is projecting more foreclosures in the near future and they ramp up the price so when The people are dumping their memberships on the Timeshare Store for fire sale prices they can grab them at and resell them at the higher prices. Just checked Timeshare Store and the prices are about the same as they have been. Not sure but just a thought. A lot of people are in trouble and the first to go will be the vacation home.

But Disney hasn't been exercising ROFR at all (except for BCV), and the foreclosure issue isn't exactly new.
