13 year old girl was strip searched at school....for ibuprofen.

How do they know it wasn't meth, cocaine, ect? Just because she said it's ibuprofen or the label reads that on the bottle means nothing. I know plenty of people who have sold ecstasy at school, but put it into an over the-counter-bottle so they won't get in serious trouble if caught with it. They school has to protect it's self. If she broke the rules, they have to make sure they can't get in trouble for it either.

That's true, but where is an eighth grade girl going to get meth, cocaine or ecstasy?

They can look at the pill and ibuprofen has an 'I' or something like that on it.

And excuse my igorance, but doesnt cocaine, meth ect, come in a powder form versus a pill/tablet form?

Seesh....this whole story reminds me of Boy who cried Wolf.

Tablets where the ends slide open are often opened, dumped with the other stuff out, then the cocaine, ect. is put in there.

Yeah, on the word of another student trying to save their own ***. Ensure the safety by stripping a girl to her panties and peeking in her bra?!

I don't think so.

Like I said, the school has to protect it's self. Why could the girl have not just brought a note from her parent or doctor and given it and the medicine to the school nurse. Take a note to the teacher explaining that she needed it and whenever she did just to go down to the nurse and get it? It's not that ****ing hard to follow school rules. If she would have, this would have never happened. She brought it upon herself.

Uhh, let's not go into specifics, but it's pretty easy to find if you know the right people.

Therein lies the problem. WHY should we have to do that? It's Advil for christ's sake! Teenagers should have enough common sense to know not to take it for fun. Trust me, I know, Advil does not give you any type of high no matter how many you take. (No, I am not a druggy, I have unfortunate experiences with narcotics)
Our parents were fine taking Advil to school without it being approved, and I can guarantee you mine did more drugs than today's society.

Sorry, I just don't think we should need to have something as small as Advil for PMS cramps being "checked in" to the office. JMO.

There is where the problem lies. The problem is, people do take Advil for fun. If they didn't, then we wouldn't have such thing as prescribed medicine. Because all pills can have sort of negative affect on you, we have to be careful who takes what and how much. The school HAS to protect it's self. Say that girl ended up OD'ing on ibuprofen [yes, it's possible], then the parents could easily sue the school for not making sure they had it in their records that she brought some to school.

I do think we should have to check it in. Otherwise, one OD could lead to a crap-load of problems for the school. You have to be open-minded. You have to view things from more than one perspective. You're the principal. Do you want law suits, news cameras, ect. coming to your face because some stupid person OD on some medicine instead of following school rules?

If I were her, I'd go straight to my parents after school. Because she is a minor, the school should not be allowed (and I honestly don't think that they are) to do that type of thing without parental consent.

If the school believes that there is a problem, they should get the student into the office, call the parents/gardian and then go from there.

It's one thing to force a strip search on a 40 year old man who is suspected of having a gun. A complete other to do the same on a 13 year old with pain killers. I understand the worry about other students possibly getting a hold of what she has and over-dosing, but like I said before. The professional thing to do would have been to take her into the office and call the parents.

I think its quite outrageous that school do that
But my school would most likely do it
You can get expelled for just having aleve with you
I carry it in my purse anyway but I'm not thought to be a rule breaker/druggy
So I've never gotten searched...
I have friends who have been searched over things like this but they mostly target emos, and people like that at my school
I wear mostly prep clothes so I'm not targetted...
Wow. Stereotype much?

The girl wasn't even the one FOUND with the ibuprofen! It was on the ibuprofen carrying student's word that this girl had given it to her.

No matter what the student was suspected of having, there was absolutely no reason to violate her right like that. IMO.

There are a million and one different ways they could have appropriately handled the situation without laying a finger on the girl. The administration shouldn't have the right to force some child to strip for them.

Read the second post on this page. I never condoned stripping her. I just said the school had to protect it's self.

Another girl was found with it and blamed the girl who was forced to strip.

I'm going to guess that's a part of media rumors.. There's no way they'd make another girl strip because someone who had it accused her of having it. The only real story will come out in court and we probably won't know it. The court will probably sway my view one way or another.

Her parents should have been called and then her doctor. Both could have confirmed whether or not she had the means to get such a high dose of pain killers in the first place. Its not rocket science.

Ah, don't be so quick to judge. It's called zero-tolerance for a reason.

Actually, many lower level courts have already ruled in the girls favor.

::yes:: Completely agree.

Does your town have some kind of curfew? Maybe that could be it?

In my case, we were leaving for Florida. My ticket was stamped "extra screening" because my name doesn't "sound American" even though I was 13. I got hysterical during the screening process and someone forgot to stamp my ticket even though I was screened.

Fast forward to boarding time, I was the last in line of my group of 7. Yep, they held me back and WOULD NOT let my parents go with me as I was escorted away. I was freaking out while two TSA agents (who THINK they have the power of law, but they really don't) wanded me down sticking their hands wherever they could.

I know what it's like to be 13 and searched because you're "wrong" or "illegal" or "dangerous", but if the above was traumatizing to me, I can't imagine what she was and is going though.
yes, but it doesn't apply if you're on your property. which i was. and my mother knew i was outside.
basically, the cops were bored.

uniforms and a god complex shouldn't mix, but they all too often do.

and sonya, your name sounds more american than mine.

i dont care if they did have a warrent
they are not to strip search me
only a FEMALE COP may do it
thats discusting
there have been so many teachers accused of sex crimes in my school..one of my past gov. teachers killed himself after he was assused of rapeing a student

WTH?
Do you live in a small town or something? Were you able to file a report with the chief?

I see the "uniform power" all the time in TSA agents.

And they take total advantage of that!:sad2:
