13 year old girl was strip searched at school....for ibuprofen.

Yeah seriously. Even in the boring old town I live in there's always crappy stuff happening.

That would be...interesting. Haha. I don't think we should live in fear, just be aware that there are always people out there planning to attack our country. The system we have now (for airplanes) seems to be working.
lol...try living like 15 minutes away from NYC. The news is always about death, fires, or something going downhill. And even though the aiplane crash in the Hudson was a bad thing, it is one of the most positive things I have heard of in a while. Nobody died, the pilot is a hero, and anyone who saw or heard what happened helped out. It is actually amazing

::yes::
I'm 2 hours away from NYC, but many of my friends parents work and live there. I get...hmm maybe 4 NY stations so I always know what's going on. EVERYDAY, the CW channel at 10 is always about someone being raped, shot, murdered, whatever.

 That scares me so much.

You get used to it after a while.

Yeahh, I always hear about people getting raped, shot, and robbed around here, but because it's NYC it just makes it even more scarier for me. lol

I think its quite outrageous that school do that
But my school would most likely do it
You can get expelled for just having aleve with you
I carry it in my purse anyway but I'm not thought to be a rule breaker/druggy
So I've never gotten searched...
I have friends who have been searched over things like this but they mostly target emos, and people like that at my school
I wear mostly prep clothes so I'm not targetted...

dude. you can call yourself fiesty all you want, but until that badge is breathing down your neck, and you've got the deer in headlights look. you can't say a word.

i'm seventeen years old, and reasonably intelligent. but when i got hassled by four poliecemen at an ungodly hour, i was too scared to think to get their badge numbers. and i wasn't even doing anything wrong. and i'm four years older and a tad more experienced with the workings of the law than a thirteen year old.

basically waht i'ms aying is that she was taken advantage of. and people in uniforms don't have a hard time taking advantage of anyone. we're trained at a young age to listen to them and that they are in charge. a cop with a god complex is a bad bad thing.

its digusting that this happened, but i can't honestly say i'm surprised. god complexes are a dime-a-dozen. i'm just glad this one made the papers. hopefully they'll be punished.

I assume your first two paragraphs are directed at me? No, because I have had that badge breathing down my neck, and all I did was sob like a lunatic which made them question me even more. That is how not to handle it. I've learnt from that experience, and yes I would question anyone who attempted the same stunt again.

Your last two paragraphs I agreewith.

if you are talking about me...I have been in situations like that. I used to play football where we had a community shower type thing nothing blocked anything, and I was once because of a metal button on my boxers and I didnt care it was for the safety of people. Its not like they would believe me if I was saying it was a button there because I am a stranger to them.

i almost got arrested for being in my driveway at night. in retrospect it was stupid and i wasn't doing anything wrong at all and the cops were just bored. but at the time, it was terrifying. and i'm assuming that how scared i was is nothing compared to that girl who got searched.

omg that is so creepy...i mean if the administration really had concrete evidence that this girl had drugs on her then fine...search her. but not on word of another student, who was probably lying anyways.

I mean I've never been strip searched but at the airport i had to get completely searched because i had a little travel sized thing of sunblock in my bag...
it was humiliating

Does your town have some kind of curfew? Maybe that could be it?

In my case, we were leaving for Florida. My ticket was stamped "extra screening" because my name doesn't "sound American" even though I was 13. I got hysterical during the screening process and someone forgot to stamp my ticket even though I was screened.

Fast forward to boarding time, I was the last in line of my group of 7. Yep, they held me back and WOULD NOT let my parents go with me as I was escorted away. I was freaking out while two TSA agents (who THINK they have the power of law, but they really don't) wanded me down sticking their hands wherever they could.

I know what it's like to be 13 and searched because you're "wrong" or "illegal" or "dangerous", but if the above was traumatizing to me, I can't imagine what she was and is going though.

She broke the rules. They had to go to extreme measures to insure the safety of her and the other students. It may seem ridiculous that they had to, but it's in the best interest of the school. Nothing wrong done.

I can't tell you how many countless times I have brought Advil to school for one reason or another. I always kept it in my purse and when I needed some I would go take it in the bathroom or something.

But to be STRIP SEARCHED?! That is totally unbelievable. :sad2: Way over the top. That principal is just out of control. Especially because it was a 13 year old girl. If I were her parents I would pull her out of that school and place her somewhere else. I also find this totally inappropriate as well!

I hope a settlement/agreement can be made.

Perhaps, if she had a gun. It was ibuprofen.

How do they know it wasn't meth, cocaine, ect? Just because she said it's ibuprofen or the label reads that on the bottle means nothing. I know plenty of people who have sold ecstasy at school, but put it into an over the-counter-bottle so they won't get in serious trouble if caught with it. They school has to protect it's self. If she broke the rules, they have to make sure they can't get in trouble for it either.

They can look at the pill and ibuprofen has an 'I' or something like that on it.

And excuse my igorance, but doesnt cocaine, meth ect, come in a powder form versus a pill/tablet form?

Seesh....this whole story reminds me of Boy who cried Wolf.

Yeah, on the word of another student trying to save their own ***. Ensure the safety by stripping a girl to her panties and peeking in her bra?!

I don't think so.
