13 Year old gir declared brain dead has now officially died

This is one of those "unless you have walked in my shoes...." scenarios.

Lots of people on this thread have been in similar situations, including myself. The family lost my sympathy when they became media hounds and begging people for money.

I disagree with the need of a, "walk in my shoes" scenario.

Due to the selfishness of this family, the possibility of numerous life saving/altering transplant operations is gone. Being sad for the passing of a young life is understandable but in my case I also feel sorrow for those who could have been helped.

There would have been or will be NO difficulty in making my mind up once informed of the medical situation. I will mention that my spiritual belief is a polar opposite in this case and that might be the reason for my thinking. Just waiting for the obligatory statement that "recovery was not meant to be and wings are now present".

I agree.

I would like to think in light of the tragedy , my child could go on living in other people.
I also think of all the kids and people in general Jahi could have helped. But now that chance is gone.

I dont know how I would act in this situation, if it were one of my children. But I'd like to think someone close to me would slap me back to reality and not look for free handouts and fame at my childs expense.

What use will a feeding tube be without a nervous system to control digestion?

So of course her body is in bad shape. Giving food to a dead body is just plain nuts. About the only claims I've seen that it will work come from Dr. Paul Byrne, who has apparently consulted in this case. He's thought of as a quack who is against organ transplantation and against the medical definition of "brain death".

I'm not a medical person at all. If she's dead, and the ventilator is just pumping oxygen in to keep her heart beating, wouldn't any nutrition given to her just sit there and not move or be processed? Would it be in the form of an IV? If so, what then? Her veins will collapse?

I believe the glucose in an IV drip is the only thing keeping the tissues going. If the family really thinks that inserting a feeding tube is going to help, then they're going to be seeing something really nasty within a few days.

You would do this sort of thing?

I would hope you would listen to doctors if one of your loved ones had a similar scenario.

The family is just :faint:

Dolan added that she had arrived at a secret facility this morning where she was receiving the best treatment available.

But he said it was touch and go whether she 'would make it'.

'Jahi is in worse shape than we thought,' Dolan said. 'The hospital’s withdrawal of nutrients has caused her to deteriorate more rapidly than we thought. It is just sad. They have starved her.'

Asked whether doctors hired by the family were going to fit a feeding tube, he said that they were assessing the situation right now.

'Because of the amount of damage to her throat she is not doing very well,' he said.

'Jahi is in very bad shape. Right now we don’t know if she is going to make it. The doctors are doing everything they can to help her make it through the day.'

It sounds like (if the media is to be believed) that she is probably starting to shut down, and the antibiotics and nutrition won't do anything. The family is never going to concede that they were wrong, it will be the hospital's fault for withholding nutrition that caused them not to get their miracle.

I anticipate a new fundraising site to raise money for her funeral. That sounds terrible, but I really think it will happen.

This is what I was referring to in my earlier post about the lawyer being an idiot.

Right, cuz that's why she's doing so bad, not the fact that she is deceased. :sad2:

No way. I work in a hospital and people are told all kinds of terrible things about their family members and yes they have a hard time accepting bad news some react with denial or anger but eventually people accept what is true. Wasn't this lady told by five different doctors that the child has irreversible brain death? It's been three weeks since she's known? I get she's grieving but she's had way more than enough time to come to grips with reality.

To me it just seems like she's fighting just to fight. I don't know how she can really believe that she's in the right and everything will turn out fine for Jahi.

These people are totally outside of reality. What do the mean "in worse shape than they thought?" The hospital has been telling them she is dead for weeks.

How could it be worse?

They truly do not understand what has happened.

I do too. They'll be fundraising for her funeral and then blaming/suing the hospital.

Exactly. These people are delusional.

When Jahi's body finally just shuts down then the family will say that it happened because the hospital didn't do the feeding tube like they requested. If only the hospital had done what they asked, she would be ok. :faint:

I hope that when the girl's body shuts down that they will accept that she has died or dead (3 weeks ago). I hope they won't think that there may still be some kind of miracle to bring her back to life... not bury her because she may live again.
