The Belgium senate voted to allow parents to euthanize their disabled children. This also applies to people with dementia. They are euthanizing depressed folks too. Absolutely no value placed on human life. It frightening AND disturbing. IMHO

Wow, that is 100% NOT what they voted. They voted to allow minors with specific health criteria and the elderly with dementia to request euthanasia. It is NOT allowing people to just randomly start killing their kids, old people, and the depressed. Good lord! Nothing like stating something WAY different then the truth.

And until you have dealt with someone who is flat out suffering from an illness, who is dying bit by bit every day, who is suffering daily... then you just don't know. When you have your mother looking at you, the pain on her face clear, asking you to please help stop the pain... to stop her life... then you just don't know.

And back on topic. Any credible links about the transfer to the Oregon Health and Sciences University?

I've seen nothing. And, frankly, I'd be shocked that a reputable hospital would take a dead patient....no insurance and no ability to pay for what is bound to be very, very expensive care. No, I think this is purely a rumor.

I would lay odds on the child's body never being removed from the hospital. The hospital can stop venting her at 5:00 Tuesday and that will be that. Something that should have happened weeks ago.

I googled it. Pretty much what tlsnell posted is a very biased and skewed view based off of some very biased and skewed websites and blogs. If you read the real news feeds about it, it will give you actual information instead of inflamed words and phrases.

You obviously didn't pay close attention to the actual details of the Belgian parliament law. Parents aren't being allow to euthanize disabled children. It allows for seriously ill children under 18 who meet specific defined criteria to be given the option to choose euthanasia. It also allows adults with Alzheimer's to make this decision as well.

You're being for or against euthanasia really only has a bearing on your own life.

I know the times I have done it it was because my animal was in the end stages of it's life and suffering. Under those circumstances, it is the most humane, most loving thing we can do for our animal friend. If we permit this for our animal friends, I think even more so we should permit it for our family members who are terminally ill and in unbearable pain.

I have a brother that is disabled and they have labeled him terminal ill because he will not live to see adulthood. He has CP, emotionally handicapped, mental state of a two year old and sometimes unbearable pain. So I guess we need to ask what is their definition for terminally ill with disabled people.

It's unlikely that this law would apply to people like your brother. It is quite clear that the person making the decision must be able to understand the consequences of their choice. A person with the mental capabilities of a two year old wouldn't qualify.

Disagreeing is one thing. Posting something inflammatory and incorrect is a whole different animal. At least give the correct facts and not just "opinion". It actually weakens ones argument quite a bit to leave out important facts when discussing a situation like this.

We'll see. I could see it playing out that the deadline comes, hospital disconnects her because no plans were in place, then the family announces that they just needed "another hour!!!"

I can't see jahi's body leaving the hospital any time soon.

I strongly believe this mother has some kind of mental illness going on. I know it is extremely difficult to take your daughter off life support, but reality should have set in by now.
