13 Year old gir declared brain dead has now officially died

After watching the clip, I cannot believe there are even commentators who support this in any way shape or form. It's not the day after brain death, and the family needs more time. This is experimenting on a corpse.

And Dr. Drew is right- think of the money that could be spent on saving those who could be saved with that $10,000/day! If that's accurate, then $50,000 so far could've gone to any hospital, charity, Make-a-Wish, etc. So much good could've been done with it, in Jahi's name.

This is interesting:

To the contrary, on December 18, 2013, lawyer Christopher Dolan, writing on behalf of Ms. McMath’s mother, stated that Ms. McMath “has been left brain dead” and requested a “complete explanation as to exactly how Jahi has now come to be brain dead.”

So even the lawyer accepts that she is brain dead??? Now I am really confused. I was under the impression that none of these people accepted the concept of brain dead.

This is also interesting:

Ms. McMath’s family was told that she had been determined to be brain dead on Thursday December 12, 2013. At that time, Ms. McMath’s family requested that Children’s allow them through that weekend for family members to gather.

That leads me to believe that they did accept the brain death conclusion and just needed a little more time for all the family members to arrive. That seems perfectly acceptable. So what happened between those first few days after the 12th and now? It has been almost a month!!

This mess is going to set a precedence in hospitals everywhere. When a patient is declared brain dead, the family will have exactly X amount of hours to say goodbye. If a loved one lives 1000 miles away, too bad for them. The hospital will now need to cover their *** thanks to this family.

You are correct. I am sure hospitals all over the country are working on policies and procedures in multiple areas because of this case.

They need to if the patient has good organs for donation. Time is off the essence.

But based on what LisaR posted, the lawyer was claiming she was in fact brain dead.

I think they accept that she is "brain dead", but in their opinion, "brain dead" isn't "dead, dead." There's another kind of dead that she isn't yet, and they want to keep going until she is "dead, dead."

Silly, but I think that's it.

Perhaps they watched the "Princess Bride" recently?

I recorded Dr Drew last night. OMG, you're so right...where did he dig up these commentators? I just got to the part where the commentator Jillian Barberie (? who and what is she??) says "I'm saying I'm on the side of the family. I understand it fires you up and I'm going to piss you off by saying this. Her heart is still beating...she's still alive. I don't understand where brain death equals death. I'm sorry...if her heart is beating..."

Unbelievable.

I think the family might feel, in some ways, responsible for her death. The mother talked about Jahi worrying that she might not wake up. Maybe the family didn't fully understand or research the details of the surgery. (The keep calling it routine)

The family has admitted to suctioning and the Popsicle. I see no reason for a witnessing father to lie about them feeding her McDonalds.

I think this circus was an effort to disguise these facts and shift the blame to the hospital.

I think she's on a LA morning news program. The Soup occasionally shows clips on the show. She doesn't come across as the sharpest knife in the block. I think she does commercials for some weight loss thing too.. maybe Nutrisystem.

The death of science and reason in America.

It's been happening for awhile now, and it's frightening. I read a statistic that only about 1/2 of American's know how long it takes for the Earth to rotate around the Sun. Really?!?! Really?!?!?

:scared1:

I'm so sad about "magical" thinking.

And, if I have to listen to one more person say "what's so wrong if they want to keep her (dead) body hooked up" I'm going to scream. What's wrong? It is (a) unethical and disrespectful to the deceased, (b) takes money, (c) takes medical resources which we do not have an abundance of in this country, and (d) keeps her family caught in a cycle of endless hoping without moving on with their lives. It is so wasteful.

If we permit EVERY grieving family to do this, we will have innumerable hospital beds filled with dead people at enormous cost. Those who complain about the cost of our medical care NOW, you 'taint seen nothing yet if we start paying to warehouse dead people. Good grief.

Jillian Barberie is a fool. She used to be on Fox news and weather. She always came across to me as a bimbo.

The idea that anyone can believe that because a muscle is being sent signals to keep contracting means she is alive is beyond me. That poor child, she really needs to rest in peace.

She is a bimbo. Why did Dr. Drew even think to interview her? :confused3

Maybe he wanted to be fair and balanced? He needed someone to take the viewpoint of the family and that's all he had available ... that and a guy whose clothing choices made my eyes bleed.

She definitely came across as a bimbo. I wonder if Dr Sally "Everyone Grieves Differently" Karioth of Casey Anthony trial infamy has commented on Jahi's family.

I used to watch Dr Drew sometimes during the Jodi Arias trial, and I think she was on then too. I haven't watched in a long time, but I think she might be a regular.

Fabulous post!

Wait... what?

I thought the Sun revolved around the earth.
