12x12 paper storage

Pammy jo has got me to want to start getting my scrapping in order....LOL
I live in an apartment (aka: limited space) I am looking for 12x12 paper storage. Something I can see though and handy, but good on budget and space. I tried office Max but I didn't find anything to fit 12x12

Generations has a new paper taker, it's hard plastic, nice handle and is around $14.00 (I used a coupon and got it 40% off). It says it will 300 sheets of paper, I've got about 150 and it seems empty. I found mine at AC Moore.

I use the creative cubes from Target - it's about 13 in wide, and 26 in tall the way I've built it, but you can put them together in various way.

You get a set of 13x13 squares, and then I built 2 cubes, and used the remaining pieces to make shelves - the entire thing is held together with cable ties. It works pretty well, and if it would fit under my table it would be perfect - unfortunatly my table has folding legs which get in the way of putting anything underneath.

Have you seen the latest paperkuts? They have a good article on setting up a scrapping area on a small budget. They start with the same table I have, a plastic folding table by Lifetime. I bought mine at Costco and it was pretty cheap.

Alternatively - if space is really tight and you want something that you can put away in a cupboard, then the ZAG 4 in 1 toolbox works very well.
Lots of the UKScrappers group use them, and you can take them to crops as well. It's only about $25, and has a bottom compartment that will hold 12x12 paper, and then a large toolbox on the top for supplies. (It won't hold all my supplies, but it holds a lot)

The ZAG is exactly what I use! The bottom compartment is about 14x14 (or something like that), and is perfect for storing your paper. I keep all of my 12x12 in my ZAG all the time. I use 13x13 craft protectors (you know, the kind with a flap and a string to hold the flap down) to keep my paper in, but I cut off the flap to form a folder, then I added self-stick tabs to the top for each color. It works like a charm!!

We had this discussion at the LSS just the other day.

Those that were using hanging files or storing their paper in an upright container said that their paper buckled over time. Those that stored their paper flat gave up portability.

I haven't seen the ZAG that you are referring to, but it sounds like the best of both. I'll have to do a web search to see if I can find it.

The "folders" that I use aren't wide enough to allow for buckling, so I don't anticipate having a problem with that. It does seem like it wouldn't really be a big deal once you used the paper, though, unless it had crumpled edges or something. Once you used it wouldn't it flatten right out?

DVCajun, I use those same project folders to store my paper. I insert one of the cardboard's that come with the packs of paper to give it strength. I keep it in my crop in style and It is sort of jammed in. I haven't had the buckling problem, but the ladies who have, said it shows in their albums.

I am having the same problem! I have become a paper hound! I seem to be picking up paper all the time! Every where I go! LOL last night I tried to organize everything in my crop and style tote! Well now I can't even lift it!
I need to create something too! But need to wait for money! LOL at the rate of my paper buying that will be a long time from now.

The ZAG is only $24.95 at WalMart. It's in the 'guy' section of the store because it's technially a tool box. Anyway, mine is heavy too because of all of the paper I keep in it, but it's got wheels and moves around like those suitcases, with the pop up handle! Very very handy. And it's so durable that you don't have to worry about it getting messed up if you bump it around a little bit (i.e. going off of a curb or something). I still have to lift it occasionally, like to put it in my car, but the rolling thing helps tons and is a definite must for me!

I use the Crop In Style PSB & put my paper in sheet protectors. (got the PSB on sale for $9!) For my 8x10 papers, I also put them in sheet protectors & put in 3-ring binders. Storing them this way, I do not have to "thumb through" all of the papers - it's so easy to see & use!

The page protector sounds like a good idea. This way you can keep like colors together. How many sheets of cardstock can you fit into a page protector?

By the way, I just found out why some papers are not 12X12. In the very beginnings, one of the bigger paper companies contracted to make 12X12 page protectors. The maker of the page protector did not allow for the seaming and the paper wouldn't fit. Rather then trash the page protectors, they cut the paper smaller.

chessie...I believe I have some of the page protectors filled with a "pack" of colored paper, so about 20-25 pieces of cardstock! And, yes, I do organize by color. One binder has patterned paper, and 2 binders have solid papers/cardstock. It is so nice to know where everything is, and just pull it down off of the shelf!

I was having the same problem , but for storing all of my stickers. So I bought the Memory File. Generations makes this and they also make a storage system called Scrapfolio. The Memory file cost $15 and the Scrapfolio is a little cheaper. I bought this storage file online from www.allmymemories.com
This Memory File system can be used for Paper, Stickers, and Die-Cuts. I just love it.

I also use a hard-sided memory file for my 12 x 12 papers. I love it! It has built in dividers that allow you to sort paper by colors or color families. I've kept my paper in it for over a year and never had any trouble with buckling (but it's always too full to let anything bend or buckle I bet).

I like mine so much that I bought a smaller one to store my 8.5 x 11 paper. I have so much of it that the patterned papers wouldn't fit. I guess I need to join scrappers anonymous or something. My habit is getting the best of me.

Cut papers go into clear envelope-like storage folders. Smaller scraps that I might use for paper piecing go in a clear shoe box.

I keep all of my paper in the Crop n Style paper taker-very easy to carry to crops and I haven't had a problem with it bending.

To step up my organization and to keep me from buying what I already had (UGH!) I bought several 12x12 portfolios at Michael's. I have sorted paper, stickers and die cuts that match and put in one of the portfolios. Since my daughters (13 and 8) both like to scrap this will allow us to all sit down together and really have fun since I won't be digging through trying to help them find things that match.

I'm not going to buy anything that I can't coordinate easily. That's what takes me so long when I'm scrapbooking.

That's pretty expensive! But I love the trays and the stackable option. I think they would work perfectly with my desk. Maybe they'll come down in price.
