I took 2 Imodium AD's before I went to bed last night - and 2 more of the acidophalus tablets when I got up about a half-hour ago.. So far I haven't had any "issues" - but I haven't been moving around much either.. I'm soooo exhausted and my mouth is so dry I can barely stand it..

I talked to the doctors office this morning to see if the doctor would prescribe phenagren too - to go with the Flagyl (which they have yet to call in) - so now I'll have to wait around all day for an answer to that.. I'm kind of afraid to take the med and I'm wondering if I should just try to get by with the Imodium AD until I get back from the trip.. :confused3

My DGD went to bed crying last night.. She doesn't want to go on this trip without me.. :( I still have so much to do and I'm too exhausted to do it.. DD has to work late tonight and my son-in-law has to go to a wake right after work..

I'm trying - but who knows.. :confused3

C. Ann,

Please, please, please try the Flagyl. If it's going to work, it works pretty quickly. Again, I get sick to my stomach at the drop of a hat and Flagyl didn't cause the least little bit of nausea. In fact, I'm not sure why your doc even told you that because it only makes you "very sick" if you drink alcohol while taking it.

The Immodium is what is making your mouth dry--that's why I can't take too much of it.

:grouphug: Hi C.Ann

:thumbsup2 Good news that there have been no issues this a.m.!! Glad you heard from your dr and bld work is normal. That's a good sign! However, not sure why she wants you to stay on Cipro, as that could very well be part of your problem. At any rate, maybe this Flagyl will be the answer to your prayers. I have recently undergone a serious ot stomach/intestional tests myself, so I really sympathize with your pain and fears.

I am a believer in 'where there is a will there is a way!' I know this is very difficult for you, but please think positive and remember we are made of tough stock! Neither of us are the type to ever throw the towel in girl!! So I really need you to start packin' that suitcase! The sunshine and world of magic awaits you and your family. :goodvibes

 Bless your little GD's heart...so hard to see them be sad. :flower3:
Sending postive thoughts and prayers that it all works out. Godspeed ^i^

Maybe this will help motivate you.....
if you stay you may have to help the IL.

I'm so sorry you are going through this - it should be a happy time getting ready for your trip.

I had a problem a couple years ago, and Immodium was not working for me. I got some Kaopectate. It works a different way and firmed things up. It also did not make me so dry. It turned out what I had was viral, but with Kao and taking Acidopholous tablets (you can ask for them at the pharmacy counter - no prescription needed but they keep them in the fridge) I felt like new. I think I read about the stuff on WebMD and it said that Kao adds "clay like" stuff that helps absorb the excess liquid in the intestines and make you more comfortable.

I'll say a prayer for you that it all turns out for the best!

C. Ann .... DH had your issues for weeks on end. He had stool samples, took immodium .... nothing really helped, and we never found out what caused it. But going on a strict diet cleared him up within a few days, and it has never come back. It is counter-intuitive, but for the first couple of days he drank clear liquids only - clear broths and water. That was to give his digestive system a rest. Then he introduced fresh veggies and perhaps rice. But he ate no meat, dairy, sugar, coffee (that nearly killed him LOL!) of any kind - even fresh fruit was a no-no at first, because its glycemic index is too high. It's a tough diet, but it was the only thing that worked. After a few days he added in fruits, toast and chicken in small amounts. Within a couple of weeks he was back to his normal diet - it was just a temporary thing to allow his digestive system to recover. Obviously something had upset it to the point that everything he ate irritated it further until he went on the specil diet. I'm not sure if it would work for you or not, but it couldn't hurt to try it and see.

C. Ann--

I had a parasite once and for 2.5 months I walked around with diarrhea. Lost 25 lbs. Nothing ever showed up on tests. Finally a GI doctor gave me a prescription for Flagyl and it worked like a charm. He assumes that I had giardia (which is hard to pick up on tests).

The odd thing about yours, though, is that it is "morning only" diarrhea which is highly suggestive of IBS. When I had the giardia, I had diarrhea after each meal. Lucky for me, it wasn't cramping diarrhea, but it was diarrhea nevertheless.

One of the "hallmarks" of IBS is morning diarrhea, although many IBS sufferers can have it all day. I have a mild form of IBS and it always hits me in the morning.

On my last trip to WDW, by the last day of my trip my IBS was in full-swing because of all my dining out. That last day at Epcot was tough because I spent most of the morning in the public restrooms and didn't feel comfortable enough to ride Soarin'. By 11:30 though, I was fine.

The next morning I woke up (the day we were checking out) and could NOT get myself out of the bathroom for the cramps and diarrhea. I was seriously panicking about the plane ride. Fortunately my dad had some Immodium Advanced. While I was uncomfortable, it kept me out of the bathroom.

I sure hope you figure this out soon. Since it came on so suddenly, I would be highly suspicious of a parasite infection.

snap, as i was scrolling through this i thought it sounded just like the symptoms ds had, eventually they tested him for giardia which is not only difficult to pick up but seldom tested for as its rare. he had a course of flagyl ,it worked like a charm. do get tested for this. hope you get to w.d.w :)

Just so you know, the phenagren will make you very sleepy. Make sure you are able to lie down when you take it. It slows everything down which is why it works for intestinal issues. I'm glad you are feeling better. I agree with the others about the Flagyl, it tastes nasty, but I never had any nausea with it.

If you are not able to go, is there someone who could go in your place to still make it a special trip for you Granddaughter? Like a special friend of yours or maybe the other grandmother....

Hope everything clears up soon. :goodvibes

Call and let them know you need a fridge for medical reasons for pills and special dietary needs and you should be able to get one free of charge.

Otherwise it is, I think, $10 per day.

Good Luck C Ann, hope to "run into you" while at WDW, I will be staying at POR till Tuesday, and attending MVMCP on Monday night! :thumbsup2 :wizard:

Thanks for that info! :)

Yay! I'm hoping for the best C.Ann. :)

FYI...my DH has IBS and had to take Flagyl for his recent appendectomy. He got 5 bags IV in the hospital and then 500 mg bid for 2 weeks. It never made him sick--his only issue was he had a weird smell in his nose (I've heard some people experience an odd taste)--that was it. And he's pretty sensitive. So hopefully this medicine will just make you feel better, and not worse as you were worrying earlier.
Good luck, I hope it's smooth sailing from here on out!

Have a wonderful time..and try not to stress yourself out.
Opposite of what someone else suggested..I wouldn't eat veggies right now (they make most people "go", and can build gas)..but stick to bland such as banana, rice, chicken (with as little fat as possible), perhaps some oatmeal and or toast in the morning to get some extra fiber, and all the liquids you can take..but try to have the liquids after you eat so you don't, er, wash away the solids.

We'll assume that awful wind ouside will abate by morning, and you have a nice gentle take off. Hope you get to sleep your way there, so you are more rested. Perhpas you can send off your family to dinner, to allow you some important down time. Otherwise you will prob push yourself.

If you don't have your computer..give me a call and let me know how you are doing, and I'll post it..you have a ton of people wishing you pixie dust and a great framily vacation.
