1200 pics, 1100 miles, 15 deluxe dining meals, 1 great time at POR *Completed 9/5*

Hello. Just started following along. Looks like y'all had an awesome vacation. I'm staying on property for the first time in July (POR). I loves seeing the pictures of the grounds and resort. Can't wait to read more posts!

Welcome mickeymouse108! :wave2: Happy to have you reading along and glad you are enjoying!

Awesome! We're glad to have you following along! I hope you will love POR as much as we did. It's our new favorite place to stay! Very peaceful and picturesque.

It was about 1:20pm on Monday, June 2 when we were seated at T-Rex.

Our server's name was Deidra and she was VERY good! She was a real pro...made great suggestions, moved quickly and you could just tell she was very good at what she does. She brought our menus and drinks:

DW ordered the T-Rexadillas:

They were VERY good! If we weren't on the Deluxe Dining Plan, I would order this as my meal. Not a bad value at $10.99.

DD ordered the Megalosaurus Mozzarella Cheese Sticks:

This girl loves cheese sticks! She ate them all.

DS ordered the Onion Rings:

It was a huge portion and I ate a couple. They were good. Nothing special, but good.

I ordered the Dexter's Dual Dip:

Very good! I liked both dips, but I liked the one on the left the most. It was more of a queso and the one on the right was more of an artichoke dip. Again, if we were eating here out of pocket, this could have been my entire meal. Generous portion.

For my entree I ordered the Tyrannosaurus T-Bone steak topped with steak butter and served with waffle fries:

It was VERY overcooked and tough. Usually if a steak is undercooked I will send it back, but being overcooked would require a completely new steak. I didn't send it back, but I was disappointed. :sad2:

DW ordered from a special menu and got the surf and turf:

Her shrimp skewer was good, but her steak was overcooked and tough also.

DS ordered the Mega-Mes-O-Bones ribs:

They were good but nothing special. Very similar to Chili's or other chain restaurants. I was wishing I had ordered ribs instead of the T-bone.

DD ordered the Stegosaurus Steak and Cheese Sandwich:

It was probably the best of our entrees. Ok, I wish I had ordered THIS instead!

We were all pretty full, but decided we would all share this monstrosity:

This was called Chocolate Extinction.

It was very decadent and very good!!

My overall evaluation of T-Rex: our appetizers were good, the entrees were not great, and the dessert was very good. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the service. It's definitely a touristy thing, but hey, we were tourists! Would I go back again? Sure, why not! Is it a must-do? Nah.

Overall grade: B-

Hey Alan!

Joining in on your TR. I love all of the food updates though! I have been going to Disney since I was less then 3 months every year, but we never really dine in the sit down restaurants, minus the time we had the dining plan in 2010 and did mostly buffets.

Looks like you guys are having a great time! Every day is always jam packed with memories and best of all fun and laughter! Cannot wait to see what's next.

I gotta admit Alan, I kinda like that the 2 adults went off to Typhoon Lagoon while the kids slept. :thumbsup2

Haha, I made one attempt at DTD is December, but the parking was attrocious with the construction, so I passed.

T-REX is definitely on my short list even though I'm not a sit in meal type in Disney. I've never been in, but it just looks so cool from the pics I've seen. I'm kinda liking the look of that Steak and Cheese sandwich.

I was thinking that the quesadilla could be my meal, and I'd be stuffed after eating it!! Funny you said just that...we are definitely doing this on our next trip...our son will be 6, and he will love it!! I'll he all set with quesadilla and that dessert hahaha :)

Love your TR so far!

I totally agree with you on the school bread. It was hard and gross and definitely tasted stale.

I love that your daughter texted you in the same room! That cracks me up!

Sounds like a great trip! Can't wait for the rest

Hi goofy's_gurl! :wave2: Welcome to our trip report!

DW and I both consider ourselves to be wanna-be foodies. We don't normally eat like this....but for us part of being on a great vacation is to experience some great food and great restaurants. Disney has some of the BEST! We plan to go more budget-conscious next time, but there's still some of the sit down restaurants that are must-dos for us!

Yeah we did have a great time. There were some great memories made.

I gotta admit Alan, I kinda like that the 2 adults went off to Typhoon Lagoon while the kids slept. :thumbsup2

Hi Rob! :wave2: From the very start, we've always thought that this would probably be our last Disney vacation with just the four of us as a family unit. The kids aren't really kids anymore and they have busy lives. That being said, DW and I are already thinking about an adults-only trip. It's nice to have a spouse that loves Disney World as much as me!

I was really afraid of what the parking situation would be at DTD. I asked for advice here on the DISboards and most people replied that they didn't think it would be a problem at 1:30 in the afternoon on a Monday. Worse case would've been that we just turn around, go back to POR, then take the bus. Fortunately, my fellow DISers knew best!

T-REX is a lot of fun! Every 15 minutes they have this giant explosion and the lights flicker. When DS was a little boy he used to LOVE dinosaurs! DW and I kept thinking about how much he would've loved this place 10 years ago (even though it wasn't even built at that time.) The steak and cheese sandwich was a good choice for sure.

That's disappointing about your steaks. At least your appetizers and desserts were good.

Great job with the food pics! I think I've gained five pounds just reading your trip report!!!

Oh my goodness your 6-year-old son would absolutely LOVE this place as long as he's not freaked out by the loud noises. They went all out to put you in the element! The quesadillas were really good...and that dessert was enough to feed a small army!

Love your TR so far!

Thanks rachel09985! Glad you are following along!

I'm glad someone else thought the school bread tasted stale. It had potential...it really did. I like some of the flavours, and I liked to coconut...but I guess it's one of those things where you have high expectations and it just didn't live up to the hype.

Hahahaha! My DD and me have a close relationship! She definitely got my personality!

It really was a great trip. We had some great moments for sure.

That's disappointing about your steaks. At least your appetizers and desserts were good.

Yeah it's not that hard to cook a steak medium rare. Both DW and my steaks were well done. I wouldn't have minded but it just made it really tough and hard to chew. I'm a weekend grill MASTER, so I know how to cook a good steak. In fact, we are having t-bones on the grill tomorrow night! And mine will be cooked just right! :) But yes, the appetizers and that dessert were awesome! We certainly didn't leave there hungry! In fact we were STUFFED!

Hahahaha! It's funny that you say that....because I literally gained five pounds on this trip! It's okay though...I had lost 15 pounds since February in preparation of this trip. I knew I would probably put on a few pounds so I didn't sweat it. Hey, it's vacation! :thumbsup2

That sucks about T-Rex we have never been there thought about but with it being the same owner as rainforest we figured it would be very similar. That dessert does look good though. Maybe we will try it on a future trip.

Ops I was behind for a couple days ! Your Magic Kingdom day sounded like an awesome day ! Staying late at Magic Kingdom is on our to do list for sure :) T-Rex is a really cool place, a bit loud and crowded but worth it to see it at least once anyway.

Just started reading along yesterday, but I lost your TR and only just found it again, so I'm posting now, so I can find it easier next time

So far I'm really enjoying it. We stayed at POR for our wedding a couple of years ago, so I'm loving your photos of the resort :goodvibes

Another person late to the party! I am really enjoying reading your report. Just love the fact that you guys went to the water park and left the teenagers sleeping!

We went to T-Rex for our 19th anniversary. I'm kinda drooling here, looking at your pictures of dinner there... That cheesesteak sandwich just looks good this morning!

When I got to the main building I followed the sounds of the music to the River Roost and got to see Yeehaw Bob doing his thing! (sorry for the poor quality of the pictures):

The place was packed with men, women, and children. Definitely a family-friendly environment. I ordered a drink, then found a spot to stand and just enjoy this amazing entertainer doing his thing!

A note to those who are not staying at POR: want to have a fun evening? Take the boat from DTD to POR on a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night and check out Yeehaw Bob....he's hilarious! And an absolute PRO at entertaining.

He was about to take a break, but before he did we all had to do the "YMCA"!

...and to think that I almost went to bed and missed this! I hope to have another Disney World trip in the near future, and I hope to stay at Port Orleans Riverside, and I hope to carve out an evening to just sit and enjoy this brilliant entertainer.

But alas, I was tired and ready for bed so I made my way back to my room and called it a night.

What a great day it had been! Now it was time to get some sleep and get ready for Day 3 which was going to be epic!

Catching up on your TR this morning and just loving it! Ohana looked amazing!

Continuing reading and bam... I see pictures of Dd and I doing the YMCA dance at Yeehaw Bob's show. I'm the blond in the light purple shirt. We loved Yeehaw Bob and highly recommend him. This was our first time, but I have a feeling he will become a regular for us. We arrived prior to the show starting and stayed for the entire set. He is now a must see in our plans.

The ice cave! Except for this past trip, we were always seated in the ice cave. Next time you go to T-Rex order the appetizer sampler as your entree. It has the queso and chips, onion rings, bruschetta and the quesadillas. It's way too much food but you get a good sampling of everything. It's too bad that your steak was overcooked. Like you said, it's easy to send back and undercooked steak but an overcooked one? Not so much.

Hi! Subbing! I saw your TR update on the May 2014 FB pop-up this morning and I just spent my whole morning reading up! Enjoying every bit of it! I do keep thinking that is so much food on the deluxe!! Wow! But we like table service so much more than counter that I always contemplate adding it!

:wave2: Hi Alan! Great updates! We haven't been to T-Rex, and we originally had it booked and then our plans changed. It seems like it isn't very consistent with the quality of food. The dessert looks great, though! :goodvibes
