12 Days in Florida -- Disney World and Marco Island

Kathy, It looks so far like you guys had a great time! It certainly seems like you did great with short wait times! I hope we get that lucky in Dec!!!

I can't wait for your next installment!

I hope you get those wait times too. I couldn't get over it. There were people at the parks, I just don't know what they were doing.

The two of you look like you are sooo much fun. I, too, call to check on our dogs so I know how a "Cookie Report" can feel. :goodvibes

:worship: Thank you for calling in the smokers- my husband is a smoker but would never dream of such low class behavior as those people by the pool.

Thanks...we're like two little kids when we are at Disney (well, DH is always like a little kid :rotfl2: ).

I hate when people disobey the rules. It drives me NUTS!

I'm in. Better late than never!!! Loving the report!!!:thumbsup2

Thanks for joining in. We still have a lot of days to go.

Awwww, I loved your Cookie story. Your poor baby missed y'all so much. I am thoroughly enjoying your TR, you guys just have that magical Disney glow.:goodvibes

Thanks, Kathy. I know the Cookie story probably hit home with you.
You are too kind about "our" magical Disney glow.

Soo true!!!!!

Thanks Christine.

Kathy, your pictures are wonderful! Love the pic of the side of Spaceship Earth :thumbsup2

Thanks. I wasn't pleased with last year's pictures all that much so I really concentrated on it this trip.

Uh oh...I am terrified of frogs.:scared1:

They won't hurt you! They just hop about or stick to things...not people!

I LOVE the picture with the skunk hat. Flower I am guessing????

OMG.. I actually laughed out loud and Lily came running to see.

xo
Kelly

Actually, the skunk hat was at the little kiosk outside of Canada. But I did call Mark "Flower" when he had it on. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Loving the trip report Kathy. Looks like you guys had a great time! So sad to hear about Glen.

Okay, Part II of Sunday, September 20

We did something that we have not done since we stayed at the All-Star Sports for a few nights back in 2000...we used the bus system once. After reading conflicting reports of the buses, we thought we'd give it a try. We went to Bus Stop 1 (the last one picked up) around 5:45 p.m. to head over to the Magic Kingdom for the Extra Magic Hour evening. A bus appeared in less than five minutes; there was plenty of room for the six of us waiting there for the bus to get on and get a seat. I timed it. From the time we left the resort to the time we got to the MK, it was exactly ten minutes.

We arrived at the MK and walked from the Bus Stop to the entrance and took these pictures:

IMG_2402-1.jpg

IMG_2403.jpg

We stopped at the shop off of Main Street that has the Mickey, Minnie ears and ordered two for a girl I work with (and who takes care of my 83-year old boss when I'm not in the office) who wanted them for her nieces for Christmas. We found the Minnie Ears, gave them the info and waited less than 10 minutes to get the finished project. We stopped for a couple of more Photopass pictures and then I decided that I was hungry (I'm telling you all this walking sure makes a person hungry...that's my story and I'm sticking to it! ). We decided to go to Cosmic Rays because we really enjoyed it last year. Again, I know there were a lot of people at Disney -- I saw them -- but they never seemed to be where we were. Cosmic Rays was 3/4 empty.

We looked over the menu and I decided I wanted the same thing I had last year and Mark decided to try something different...but both were in the same area. I ordered the Barbecued Pork sandwich with Eclipse Chips and Mark had the Cheese Steak sandwich with Apple Slices. Mine was as good as last year; Mark wishes he had stuck with what he got last year.

IMG_2405-1.jpg

IMG_2404-1.jpg

We went and got Fast Passes for Pooh so that we could do a few things we had missed when we first visited the MK on Saturday. We did Mad Tea Party and then went to see Mickey's Philharmagic (this is my FAVORITE show at Disney). Mark, of course, had to stop to try on a hat.

IMG_2406-1.jpg

We went back to Pooh and rode it. Then we were going to get on It's a Small World, but I wanted popcorn since we had no dessert at Cosmic Ray's. Hence, I got my popcorn and we parked ourselves on a bench by Pinocchio's Village Haus and it was almost time for Wishes so we decided to stay there and watch it. We were in a great spot for the show. As always, I get teary-eyed during this show...there is just something about the music and the narration that gets me every time. A few photos:

IMG_2409.jpg

IMG_2411.jpg

IMG_2412.jpg

After Wishes, we went on It's a Small World, then the Haunted Mansion again, then went and saw Hall of Presidents (this was not open when we were there last year; I really like the new version--I like the changes and the addition of President Obama and his talk); we then went over to Big Thunder, Splash Mountain, Pirates and Aladdin.

IMG_2417.jpg

We sat and people watched for about 30 minutes and then decided to head to Main Street and take our time walking through the stores.

On the way, I got this picture of the castle:

IMG_2419.jpg

We strolled through the stores, bought some fudge at the bakery for Mark and took a few pictures and then headed for the bus to go back to the CSR.

IMG_2421.jpg

IMG_2422.jpg

IMG_2424.jpg

IMG_2428.jpg

We walked to the Bus Station and the CSR was the first bus stop that you saw as you approached the bus area. The first bus was full and we could have squeezed on and stood, but we decided to wait for the next one. The first bus no sooner pulled out, and another one pulled in. We got back to the CSR around 11:00 and checked the weather station (yes, another day of 93 predicted with high humidity) and went to bed.

Up next: Monday, September 21 -- Waffle House, meeting a staff member at the CSR, pool time

Monday, September 21

We decided to sleep in this day. Although we love the heat and the humidity doesn't normally bother us, it was REALLY hot and we just needed a little breather. We slept until 8:30 and took our time taking showers and packed most of our stuff so we wouldn't have to do it later at night as we would be leaving the CSR early in the morning. Oh, and forgot to mention earlier...we got turn down service every night:

IMG_2429-1.jpg

At around 10:00 we left for the Waffle House--one of our favorite places to eat. I didn't take any pictures, but I had the cheese omelet with hash browns scattered, smothered and covered (scattered potatos, smothered with onions and covered with cheese); Mark had the cheesy eggs, toast, bacon and grits (YUK--HATE GRITS...don't know how he eats them ).

We came back to the CSR and met up with a wonderful woman at the CSR who has been very gracious to us; we talked with her for about 25 minutes and thanked her for her graciousness, told her how wonderful we have always found the CM's at the CSR, etc. It was nice to say "thank you" for the magic and the pleasure we have found at the CSR. We stopped at Cafe Rix and got Mark's breakfast for tomorrow morning and then went back to the room to change into our swimsuits. We took the walk to the Dig Site pool using the bridge and took some pictures along the way:

IMG_2434-1.jpg

IMG_2436.jpg

IMG_2437-1.jpg

IMG_2438-1.jpg

IMG_2439-1.jpg

We arrived at the Dig Site. I love this pool. It has never been crowded when we are there and I love Siesta's for a nice, cold Pina Colada. I only took a couple of pics as I took so many of the Dig Site last year:

IMG_2440-1.jpg

IMG_2442.jpg

IMG_2444-1.jpg
(Yes, that is Mark in the pool)

I spent about two hours at the pool and told Mark I'd meet him back in the room and I'd take my shower first since it takes me longer to make myself pretty; I told him to give me 30 minutes and then come back for his shower.
I took a few pictures on the way back and walked the path rather than the bridge this time:

Mark got back around 1:45 and hopped in the shower. By 2:15 we were on our way to Epcot.

Next installment -- Epcot for the afternoon/evening

Wow, what a great report! Lots of great and fun pictures. Mark is a riot with all the hat shots! :rotfl:

I agree with you...where the heck were all the people when it came time to get in line. It felt so crowded on the street and at the restaurants, but not at the attractions. Bizarre!

Looks like you guys made the absolute MOST of your short stay. Staying tuned....

Loving the trip report Kathy. Looks like you guys had a great time! So sad to hear about Glen.

Yes, I missed Glen. (:

Welcome! Glad you are enjoying the report. Mark is a goof with his hats...but he can pull it off. :)

Here now, although I have a lot to catch up on

I was wondering where YOU were. Glad to have you here. More to be posted tonight.

Hey Kathy! Great trip report so far. I'm looking forward to the rest of it.

Glad to hear you had a good experience with the CSR bus. One of our favorite things about a WDW vacation is to park the car and not touch it for a whole week. I have always thought the bus service at CSR was top-notch.

Cracked me up that you guys LEFT PROPERTY to eat at The Awful House! :scared1: Gotta be a Northern thing! ;)

Hey I found it! I am loving the report and the pictures. I am so glad this worked out for you guys, you deserved it! And of course its getting me beyond excited for our trip in March.

Can't wait to read more and see what you thought of Marco Island (my favorite spot for a beach vacation).

Thanks for another update. I'm glad you had a good experience with the busses. I can't wait for more!

Loving all of the pics of CSR! Looks like you guys are having a great time.

Is turn-down service something that regularly happens at CSR, or was a special treat since you guys were celebrating your anniversary? It'll be my birthday when we arrive and a week past our wedding anniversary---so maybe that's something I can keep my fingers crossed for! :goodvibes

What kind of fudge did you get at the Confectionary and how would you rate it?

I saw in Nicki's dining reviews that the fudge of the month was Reeses Pieces and I'm hoping to get a piece in 10 short days---but don't want to waste the money if it's not good, the kind where it tastes super grainy like the sugar didn't melt properly.

Looking forward to reading more!

We always drive...so taking a bus was a new experience for us.

You are too funny about The Awful House. We ate at one in Naples too and it was great. :thumbsup2

Marco Island was heaven. I hope to get to that tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks. I think we'll still drive, but I wanted to see how the buses ran while we were there.

No turn down service normally only occurs CL at deluxes. I think this is a little something "extra" because of the number of times we have stayed.

Mark got the regular fudge...he gets it every year and absolutely loves it.

I am happy to hear that they gave you a little something extra, that's a sign of good management.:thumbsup2

Part II -- Monday, September 21

Where did I leave off? Oh, yes, Mark was showered and ready to go at 2:15. We left the CSR and got to Epcot, parked the car and were walking toward the entrance by 2:35 (we did not see a tram running at Epcot any of the times we were there this trip). The first thing we did was go on Spaceship Earth. We missed this the first day we were here. It was a much "easier" ride for me this year. For those of you who are new and don't know, my dad died a week before our trip last year, and I was a basket case the first time we went on Spaceship Earth during our 25th anniversary trip last year because it was my dad's favorite ride. This time there were just a couple of tears.

IMG_2397.jpg

IMG_2453.jpg

We then did Soarin' one more time and then started the walk to World Showcase. Mark wanted to stop at the store again in the promendade area because he was looking for a new Dumbo pin (we never did find one he doesn't have) and he said it was my turn to try on a hat:

IMG_2454.jpg

I took these random shots on the way to the Mexico Pavillion:

IMG_2456.jpg

IMG_2457.jpg

Just as we arrived in Mexico, it started to drizzle. I swear every single year we go to World Showcase it ALWAYS starts to rain in Mexico.

IMG_2458.jpg

We went in and saw the new little bar that they've added in the Mexico Pavillion:

IMG_2459.jpg

We did the ride (okay, really...this is a bad imitation of It's A Small World and really, really dumb in our opinion) and then we browsed the shops:

IMG_2460.jpg

IMG_2461.jpg

By the time we walked out of Mexico, the drizzle had stopped and we had sunshine and HUMIDITY (did I mention we had a lot of humidity on this trip) the rest of the afternoon.

Next up is Norway. We did Maelstrom and then sat and watched the movie. It's really a short movie and we don't mind sitting and watching it.

IMG_2462.jpg

IMG_2463.jpg

I had been telling Mark before the trip about this School Bread that everyone talks about and so he decided that we should try it. He liked it a lot and he is not a big fan of coconut; I took one bite and didn't care for it all (I personally hate coconut and I hate any kind of pastry that has gooey stuff inside of it).

IMG_2464-1.jpg

From there we went to China and listened to an entertainer inside while we waited for the film. I really enjoy the film in China...I think it is just beautiful.

IMG_2466.jpg

IMG_2468.jpg

This picture has become a tradition every year:

IMG_2469.jpg

Mark outside by the gardens in China:

IMG_2467.jpg

Up next was Germany, and you know what that means, don't you: BEER TIME!!! Mark ordered a beer while I went into the shops. I found a really pretty lace Christmas hanging with a snowman which I purchased as a thank you gift for the couple who is letting us use their condo in Marco Island starting tomorrow.

Mark and I sat and drank his beer (he got a big one so I could share) and I took these shots:

IMG_2473.jpg

IMG_2474.jpg

IMG_2475.jpg
(I loved this...a woman chasing a man--can't remember if it was with a broom or a hammer...there are many times I'd like to be doing this.

The buildings with the train station outside of Germany:

IMG_2476.jpg

IMG_2477.jpg

IMG_2478.jpg

By this time I am getting hungry and we decide to just go over to The American Adventure Pavillion and eat at Liberty Inn. Mark had a bacon cheeseburger and I had the chicken fingers. I know this place gets bashed but I think the food is pretty decent.

IMG_2479-1.jpg

IMG_2480-1.jpg

Up next...the rest of World Showcase

World Showcase continued.

We finished dinner at Liberty Inn. The next showing of Ther American Adventure wasn't for around another 30 minutes so we decided to stroll over to Japan (and yes, I know we skipped Italy, but I can't go into a lot of those shops--France too--because of the smelly perfumes...I'm allergic to perfume and I gag when I go in these stores). So we arried in Japan and the Japanese drummers were performing so we listened to them for awhile.

IMG_2485.jpg

IMG_2486.jpg

IMG_2490.jpg

The female drummer was simply amazing:

IMG_2491.jpg

A couple of random photos on our way back to America and then:

IMG_2487.jpg

IMG_2488.jpg

We went to see The American Adventure and I took a picture going up the escalators of all the flags:

IMG_2492.jpg

Next up was Morocco (for some reason I didn't take any pictures here) and then France. Mark wanted something sweet (I, of course, was waiting to have my daily dose of popcorn:: ) so we stopped and the bakery and he got an eclair and I got a cappucino. He loved this; again, I don't like things with gooey stuff in the middle and I thought the chocolate on top was awful--

IMG_2496-1.jpg

IMG_2495.jpg

We then stopped in the United Kingdom and we went to the book store because I was NOT leaving until I had my picture taken with Pooh, Tigger and Eeyore. I didn't get any with my own camera but as soon as I get our photopass pictures I'll be back posting a pic.

Mark sat in the United Kingdom with another beer while I walked to get my popcorn. We'd already done Canada the day we went to LeCellier and it all of a sudden seemed very crowded in World Showcase--although it had seemed empty all afternoon/evening and I'm sure it was because Illuminations was starting. We watched a couple of minutes of it (we've seen it numerous times) but then headed to the exit to get a photopass picture and get back to the resort to get to bed because we wanted to be up really early tomorrow for our last day at Disney and the drive to Marco Island.

Some photos on the way out:

IMG_2500.jpg

IMG_2505.jpg

We got back to the CSR and took a stroll around the entire resort--our goodbye. We got to the room and found this on the bed:

IMG_2506-2.jpg

and this on the counter in the bathroom:

IMG_2509-1.jpg

I finished last minute packing and we were off to bed...I wanted to be up no later than 6:30 a.m.

Next installment -- our last day at a Disney park and our drive to Marco Island

Tuesday, September 22 -- our last day at the Magic Kingdom :sad1:

I was up at 6:15 and took my shower and woke Mark up. I took all of the dirty laundry (pj's, etc.) and put in with the dirty laundry and told Mark to put the toiletries away when he got done in the shower before he ate his breakfast while I went for coffee and some last pictures of our "home away from home."

IMG_2515.jpg

IMG_2517.jpg

IMG_2518-1.jpg

IMG_2519-1.jpg

I went back for Mark and we double checked that we had everything and we were on our way to the Magic Kingdom by 8:15 a.m.

One of my two least favorite signs to see at Disney:

IMG_2521-1.jpg

The last time we would see this sign on this trip:

IMG_2525.jpg

Our tram coming to pick us up:

IMG_2526.jpg

And our second to last monorail ride for this trip (we always take the ferry boat on our last day and we make a quick visit on the monorail over to the Poly later):

IMG_2528.jpg

We arrived at the MK a few minutes before the Opening Show started and were able to catch the full thing for the first time in a couple of years.

IMG_2529.jpg

IMG_2532.jpg

IMG_2533.jpg

IMG_2534.jpg

IMG_2535.jpg

IMG_2537.jpg

We had a lot we wanted to do and I was worried we would not get it all done. But, yet again, we literally walked on to every single ride without any type of wait. It was unreal...I don't know if we just got "pixie dust" or if we just went against the crowd all day.

IMG_2540.jpg

Walked through Casey's after walking through the Emporium (avoiding the people on Main Street:

IMG_2542.jpg

Another traditional picture every year:

IMG_2543.jpg

Continued in next post.

First order of business, ride Winnie the Pooh AGAIN! :cheer2:

IMG_2547.jpg

Followed by the Mad Tea Party:

IMG_2553.jpg

From there, it was off to Snow White, Mickey's Philharmagic and It's a Small World:

IMG_2557.jpg

IMG_2559.jpg

IMG_2561.jpg

Mark wanted a Mickey Bar so we stopped for him to have one. Of course, me being the REALLY mean mom that I am, I took a picture of it on my cell phone and sent it to our youngest son; Markie hasn't been to Disney since 2000 and Mickey Bars were always his FAVORITE food at Disney.

IMG_2564.jpg

IMG_2563-1.jpg

After Mark finished eating his Mickey Bar we went to the Haunted Mansion and then Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Mark has to ride the Steam Engine Train once a year, so we got on by Splash Mountain and rode it to Mickey's Toontown because I had to have my picture with the MAIN MAN before we left. We waited in line in the tent for about 15 minutes to see Mickey. I have a great photo on photopass of Mark kissing Minnie's hand which I will post later.

A few photos in Mickey's Toontown:

We hopped back on the Steam Engine Train and rode it all the way around back to Splash Mountain. We rode Splash Mountain and then Pirates one more time.

We didn't want to go back to Tomorrowland and we still had about two hours before our lunch reservation at The Plaza so we decided to take the monorail to the Polynesian. We've stayed at only two deluxes -- the Contemporary and the Polynesian -- and the Polynesian is by far our favorite. We just love it there.

Some shots on the way to exit the park for the monorail:

Next up, our visit to the Polynesian and our lunch at The Plaza before driving to Marco Island.
