12/24/08 Christmas Cruise on the Wonder

Why eat Barracuda at your own risk?? Saw it on the menu. Think the kids will want the Cracked Lobster.

Just finished my fourth month of a fitness boot camp. I've hit the :wishforty mark. I gotta get a couple of new things for the Cruise for me and for the weed that we have a son. Hope all have a great weekend

WAY TO GO, ANDY!!! :yay: I wish my schedule would allow a boot camp and there was one that wasn't halfway across town. But it would have to start at 4 AM!! That is such a good feeling to have to go buy new things for yourself. Not so much when the weed outgrows everything as soon as you buy it. Too bad it's too cold to let him go au naturel. :lmao:

What is it?

I have traveled widely complements of the Marines (Okinawa, Korea :boat: Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Kuwait, Afghanistan, The Phillipines, Greece, Germany,:moped: Bosnia and the exotic country of "Southern California" :drive:) but "cracked conch" is escaping me. :confused3 Is this a drink? :drinking1

As far as I can tell they are beaten up snails and fried. The southerners explained it for me a while back.

P.s my inlaws live in Greece!:goodvibes

I spent a month in Thessaloniki, Greece. What little I saw of the countryside was nice. I remember the roads being scary and being glad I wasn't driving. :scared1:

Ahh! My FIL's Mother was (passed on) from Thessaloniki. The rest of my inlaws lives on the island of Rodos (Rhodes).

Okay, JoDale, this is cracked conch. You know the large shell that people usually pick up and put up to their ear and you're supposed to hear the ocean? (Don't get me started on the actual explanation of this. It's not as romantic.) That is a conch. So they remove the animal (meat) from that shell and fry it. If I remember correctly "cracked" is just another term for fried. I guess the meat would be similar to any other mollusk. I have yet to try it but I certainly will!! :thumbsup2

Annette! I was working on teaching a reluctant Victoria ("Mom, the trip is MONTHS away!") some basic words for her trip to Europe (since I can't afford 3 different languages of Rosetta stone and I know a little bit) in Italian and German. I don't know any in Greek other than Baklava, Loukomades, Pastitsio (where's that recipe btw? :rotfl2: ), Moussaka....you get my drift. I COMPLETELY forgot I could have you ask your DH!!! Things like hello, goodbye, thank you, please. Basic stuff....

DISCLAIMER: For those that don't want the magic of hearing "the ocean" when putting a conch shell up to your ear....do not read further

Apparently the sound that you hear when holding a shell up to your ear is just the noise of air passing between the open portion of the shell and your own eardrum. Told you it wasn't as romantic. :sad2:

Hey, that's not bad at all. I feared you were going say something along the lines of 'it is a small worm or some other parasite trying to crawl out of the shell and into your ear.' I can handle passing air...
o.k. that didn't come out right... :scared1:
now I'm only getting myself in deep :scared:

:headache: Is it too late to change my alias?

Jo 'Foot-in-mouth' Dale :badpc:

Hidy Ho everyone!

Dale finally left today, so I can get back to my usual schedule...lurking on all the cruise boards.:lmao:

JoDale, Courtney told you right. Conch is a mollusk that live in the big pink shells. They harvest the mollusk from the shells, and beat it to tenderize the meat. Which is where the term cracked comes from. It is also considered an aphrodesiac:lovestruc Just thought I would toss that out for informational purposes:rotfl2:
