My husband just called with a bombshell - thank goodness our cruise is paid for. His company Trammell Crow was just bought out. No guarentees of a continued job...MY DH has always worked the entire time I've known and been married to his since '79. He's pretty paniked today.

There goes my hopes at a summer vacation. :guilty:

*hugs* aww that's aweful Susan! Pixie dust for you! :wizard:

happy halloween all. Got 0 sleep last night :( sat up worrying and watching NCIS episodes on my computer....

Sorry for that Bombshell!!! I could not imagine if DH ran the chance of loosing his job. Too Scarry!!! He works as an independent contracter selling tools all over the US but he works on commission and if he does not sell he gets no $$.

If that happens is there another job around that he could do that he is doing know? When might he find out and if so have they said how long till they would let him go? :guilty:

I will send you many blessings....

Susan, sorry to hear that! :grouphug: Hopefully things will go well with the buyout. When will they know?

Where is everyone today? popcorn:: I am taking my lunch break and there is no one here to talk to :( .

Susan - Our thoughts and prayers are with you! I completely understand. DH job one of the major partners pulled out and opened a factory in CA taking some major contacts. So the warehouse that usually runs three full shifts is down to 2 shifts. We are not prepared but know that it could be coming. Scary. We have over $1000 worth of prescriptions a month filled. So I am thinking of returning to full-time work sometime next year.

But for now going to live and look forward to the cruise with as little worry as possible. But I am a cronic (sp?) worrier. Here is a :grouphug:

Hey guys!

I am here--for a minute at least, have been running around, and now need to get my house in shape. People are bringing their kids to my house as trick or treat base, and if they come in..... :sad2:

Susan, try not to panic about the job. I know it is scary, but my DH has been through numerous mergers (as was I when I worked in the corporate world.) It usually takes awhile to figure out what they are going to do, they keep on some people, they often offer packages, so DH can start looking. You were saying the other day he isn't all that thrilled, right? Anyhow, I'm sure you have time. :hourglass

I like La Paz too--we used to have one nearby but it closed--don't know if the others are open still or not. Haven't tried Pappasitos, but there's always this weekend.....hmmmmmm.

Kat, you're right I think we wanted to wear our shirts upon boarding. Good thing, because I may outgrow it after two evening meals! ;) I haven't been brave enough to try the Mickey on the front.

Talk to you all when my house is presentable!

i'm here...I'll talk to you kat lol...

Hi angela...hope you had a good night...i didn't sleep...i went and watched lots of NCIS...

Not to rain on your parade but I can beat that...Best thing about living in SanDiego...is
40 minutes to snow...mountains all around,20 minutes to the beach, 1 1/2 hrs to DisneyLand,20 minutes to SeaWorld,20 minutes to the SanDiego Zoo, 40 minutes to the SanDiego Wild Animal Park, 40 minutes to Mexican Border,
1 1/2 hrs to MGM/Universal Studios, 20 minutes to Downtown(city)SanDiegos famouse Gaslamp district..and on and on and on.

SanDiego Rocks.... :rotfl2: But cant beat the Smokies.... :thumbsup2

Robin popcorn::

Yeah, but San Diego is in the State of California, so you lose points right there. Too expensive and any state that thinks a former bodybuilder/movie star makes a good governor is no place for me.

Here is alittle food for thought - Yesterday when I was at the pool, I have seen a lady there swimming for a couple of weeks. She probably in her late 50's. I began talking with her for the first time last week. She actually started coming to use the shower but it is only $.25 more to swim for an hour. She is homeless and lives in a borrowed car. She had some very serious health issues and was put in a nursing home for a while. When she was released she had lost her apartment. It has been in the 20s here. I thought about her often last night. Our water froze at our barn. I will see her tomorrow -- I hope. Hypothermia? I feel like she is an angel. She just started appearing and is kind and soft spoken. (But I don't want to be a sucker either) She is saddened by her current situation but is looking forward to getting a place to live and some kind of part-time work (Walmart-Type). When I spoke with her yesterday I asked if she needed more blankets and she said that she ok. She said the end of the month is difficult as money runs out and food is gone but that God has never let her go hungry -- she is waiting on SSI approval and is living on $330 a month. So my plan is that I usually swim 3x a week and so does she, I am going to make an extra lunch when I make my son's and give it to her on those days. I also have some experience with Long-Term Care and low income housing and am going to offer her some assistance in contacting people that maybe able to help with emergency housing.

I so want to let her stay in our spare bedroom, but I can better assist her and protect my family by doing the next best thing which is offering some survival supplies and information on resources and assistance with obtaining them.

It just reminded me that while I am stressed over the prep for the cruise, responsibilities to DS, DH, family, PTA, Eagles, and everything else, it is still possible to be optimistic as little road blocks pop up along the way.

That sounds like a very kind thing to do and I would do the same...jsut remember as much as you would like to take her in your home...87% of people on the streets are there due to "Mental Illness" . Never mind the percentage of them that have turned to drugs. I can't resist helping the homeless myself ...mostly when I have so much and them nothing.
My best friend wokes in a Psyciatric word and she tells me all the time that the majority of her patients come from the streets.

By there the grace go I...Your sweet jesters will come back to you 3 fold!

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaacccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkk...... :teeth:

NM was gorgeous. Had a great conference, great sightseeing, and a great dinner with fellow DISers from the 2004 Xmas cruise. GarRy -- THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for giving me Kevin and Diana's phone #, and nudging me to call. We had a blast Saturday night at a great Thai restaurant in Albuquerque. :thumbsup2

There is NO WAY I'll be able to catch up on all the posts here. Can you guys stop talking when I'm gone? GEEZ! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Anything important decided / discussed that I should know about?

Angela -- North Bend / Coffee???

It's FREEZING here today! What's with the winter weather sneaking up on me like this???

Angela, that is so true! And you are right not to risk bringing her into your home. It is a noble thought but as nice as she seems, you never know what might happen. I think offering her sandwiches and an extra blanket is a wonderful gesture. The company I work for is very open to getting involved in all kinds of charities and at least 2-3 Fridays a month we have paid casual days to benefit many different charities from the Susan G Komen foundation to Blue Jeans for Babies to the local missions, etc. At Christmas each year we have all kinds of things going on. We get an entire week of paid casual days, we do raffles, there are silent auctions on gift baskets assembled by groups here in the office, we do a chili cookoff where the entries are sold at lunch time after the contest is over, etc etc. When one of our employees lost everything in a fire people donated money, food, etc to help him get back on his feet. It is such a giving place, I love it.

Hi Dee!!!!!!!! You need to clear out your PMs, I tried to send you something and couldn't :(. Glad you had a good time. We missed you.

I don't think anything major has been decided while you were gone. We are still trying to figure out when to have our meet. It has been put forth that it may be too crowded and busy to do it during the sailaway and right afterwards runs into dinner for the early diners. I suggested after late dinner or around 3:00 IF we thought everyone would be on board by then but we haven't had much feedback on either of those suggestions.

Last 10-night we had a 3:30 meet on deck 10, over the Mickey pool, so parents who wanted to could keep an eye on the kidlets in the Mickey pool. Everyone should be onboard by then, and it's a nice, short intro session (people went back to their staterooms to get ready for the lifeboat drill). It was fun.
