12/12/10 Podcast cruise 2.0

The board posts have quieted down as we don't have anything Cruise related to talk about and many of us are busier lately than we have been... school is starting back up which takes time out of everyone with children schedules.
Our Dining ADRs are booked - now that Candlelight Dinner Packages finally were released. Most of us have our travel plans finalized. We can't book excursions (or plan to book them) as we don't have the Podcast sponsored event schedule. Final Payments are coming due (and for a few have already come due) thus this booking window is opening - which may come down to us planning other things since we don't have a tentative schedule of events to plan around.

Info spurs excitement - excitement spurs conversation.

You are just going to have to trust me when I tell you that there is NOTHING we'd like better to post the podcast cruise schedule of events.

This would be a HUGE accomplishment and take a giant work load off John and others. I can guarantee that John will have a little party when this happens.

The reason that this hasnt happened, is that scheduling this is a logistical nightmare. Where, on an already crowed ship, do you you put this many people.

John posted a thread asking people whether Castaway Cay was a good idea for a Podcast recording. You saw what happened with that. You, yourself questioned why we were doing that. The reason we're doing that is because finding a time and place to schedule the recording, a concert with Jodi Benson, a conversation with Bob Gurr, Charlie Ridgeway and Lee Cockerell and all of the other things we'd like to do, in already busy schedule, is like pushing an angry elephant uphill.

These are the BIG issues. There a bazillion smaller issues to deal with. (ex. Will DCL have an appropriate electrical connection for the recording equipment or musical equipment?) Each of these takes many, many, many phones calls and compromise.

Please understand that this is not the Dis trying to be coy or create anticipation. This is a whole bunch of people trying desperately to make sure that you have the very best experience possible and a choice of experiences you might not have a chance experience elsewhere.

We are trying, with everything we have at our disposal, to get this information out to everyone and to insure a successful event. And to hear that the "party has died" or that people are unhappy with us for whatever reason makes us wonder (no pun intended) what else we can humanly do to make this better/ easier/ faster.

I hope this makes things easier to understand.

Emma asked Santa for a Wii already. Epic Mickey looks interesting.

I'm an XBOX person, but the Wii is real fun and a nice change of pace. And there are definitely more "little kid" games available on the Wii too. Epic Mickey looks very interesting and we may have to get it. For the kids of course. :rolleyes1

Kevin - as I recently organized the Hershey Meet (which was probably .5% of the size of this event) I can't imagine the work that is involved going into something of this magnitude. I think I speak for everyone in saying we all appreciate your hard work. I for one, don't think the party has died at all... If anything, I'm more excited than ever!

I had the morning off today, and I decided to watch Bachelor Pad. Now that my brain has been enriched, I need to get ready for my day. Have to get the oil changed, lunch with friends, meeting at work, and then get a hair cut. Glad I have the day off. How many more days until the cruise???

I work with people who plan & have been involved with the planning of Large International Conference events a full 18 - 24+ months in advance. These groups publish time lines or full schedules of events in their print promotional brochures at minimum one year prior to their event - so people can plan around these events and know what to expect of the schedule - these schedules are always subject to change, but at least give the attendee an idea of what is going on, when & where. So, I can't see a company like Disney, who hosts hundreds if not thousands of conventions each year not wanting to work these schedules out a early as possible to hold open the necessary space for a given event, as space is money to them. If our group is not using the space, then they can rent it to someone else.

I don't think any of us are asking for a Set in Stone Schedule, but at least a tentative schedule to have something to plan around. Just tell us to Hold Monday Afternoon open or Wednesday Morning open - that gives us something to work with. We don't need the finite details - just an overview.

Nothing would make me happier than to be able to give everyone a schedule - that would mean all plans have been finalized and I can put my energies into other things for the cruise.

The problem is we don't even have a tentative schedule in place with DCL.

Their first volley was something that was so totally wrong that if I told you what they had scheduled for us you would all think I was making it up.

I have since gone back to them with the schedule we want as well as our needs for every event. That was over a week ago and even with me going to them several times since then asking for an update there is still no answer.

I get that everyone wants details as soon as possible - trust me, so do I.

As soon as we know anything I will post a schedule on all approrpiate pages and we will work to make sure those who don't check the boards regularly get notified as well.

Yup....convention planners work years in advance. This isnt a convention and we arent renting space.

We are asking DCL to allow us room to hold special events in an already busy schedule without inconveniencing guests that arent part of the podcast cruise.

You arent comparing apples to apples and unfortunately, your example has nothing to do with the reality of the situation.

All I can think of is moving a show you adore to a new time slot. Isn't that how they got Murphy Brown off the air? I really enjoyed that show. Jim Dial was kind of my role model, not gonna lie.

:happytv: I loved that show, especially when Dan Quayle got on her case about being a single unwed mother :scared1: . OMG that fuel the fires for quite a long time

On a little sadder note . . . I knew when I took this job it wouldn't last forever, and I have been fortunate enough to be here this long (10 months). A week and a half ago I had out that my last day of work would be Sept 2. This
morning I found out that it would he today. So as of 5:00 this afternoon, I will once again be unemployed and it SUCKS!!!
