12/09/06 Geeks.... Lost, but not forgotten

Keep focusing on the light!!!! :) For a minute I thought that you were going down for the cruise. Mommy mush brain strikes again. :lmao:

It's a "Boys Trip" mostly because my DS is joining me while Annette goes to a conference.

Hey, Brack. I am somewhere near your neck of the woods. Newark, DE. I am here with my uncle for a memorial (Irish wake) for my cousin. Sad, sad thing. He was 45 and committed suicide. We are struggling with this. My uncle is 82 and I could not let him travel from the west coast alone. So, Dennis is home working, I am here missing him and wishing I was home too. :sad1:

Angie, I am so sorry to hear that. I am certain that your uncle is very greatful to you for accompanying him to the wake. Was this his son or a nephew. Either way, what a terrible thing for your family to have to go through. (((HUGS)))

It is his son. He also lost a wife of almost 60 years after a 5 year illness about 5 years ago and then he remarried and his second wife died less than a year ago. Lots of losses for this sweet man. I am glad to be here for him, but will really be happy when I get home on Monday.

That is horrible! :( I remember you telling us about his wife...it seems it was just before our December trip? It is good that he has you and Dennis to be there for him. He will really need you now. :grouphug:

I just grabbed a rare pirate: on my other cruise thread (12/6/08 for anyone who wants to book a cruise ;) ;) ;)) and I thought about how I had not come over to this thread for a while. Can you believe we only hit 400 posts on our other thread and it is already April. Heck we were probably closing in on 10,000 by now two years ago. pirate:

I do miss talking with everyone. I am glad I can still keep in touch with a few of you over here. It feels a bit like visiting home, kwim? :goodvibes

My new position has been keeping me very busy. I like the work but it is very, very technical...much more so that my old programmer/analyst position. There is so much to learn - even those who have been a DBA for 10+ years are constantly learning new things. It does make my brain hurt but I think it was the right move for me.

Nathan has been doing so much better later. I don't know what changed. We took him to a psychologist and the psych didn't understand why we were there. He seemed to think everything DS has been doing is "normal". I really am concerned that DS's teacher is the root of a lot of the problems. I have started hearing a lot of problems other kids are having in her class as well (almost all boys). I know his teacher is not to blame for all of his behavior but I really do feel at this point it is not just us and the psychologist even agreed with us on that one. At this point I am just hoping to make it the next two months, have a great summer and hopefully he will get a great 1st grade teacher.

Angie, I'm so sorry. Prayers for everyone.
(And I'm only about 1 hour north of you right now.)

Hi, Becka,
Hope you get through the next few months of school OK. Great teachers really make a difference. I know there is one K teacher that I really don't want Walt to get.

We went about 40 min north (I think?) for lunch today at Pearson glass blowing place. Lovely, lovely place and a wonderful lunch. Is that near you? I loved the homes and the countryside in that area.

You know how we feel about Walt, :lovestruc so if he gets that teacher just get him moved right away! :thumbsup2

I think that's in the Kennett Square/Brandywine area, so it's south and west of us (maybe 40 minutes?). That area is really pretty (and it's the land of mushrooms, too!)

Angie - I don't know how I missed this. I am so sorry . . .

Heart attack time for Brack and me...
GO HEELS!!!
:woohoo:

Oooooooh . . . not looking good Marielle. Sorry.

I have not been on the boards much guys, but thought I should stop in here with an update. I have had the month from H@@@.

Amy is in the Philippines again until Wednesday. Last week, Sophia was on break, and I was home alone as she visited her aunt, but I was sick all week, and worn out from too much work.

Then on Monday I had to take my brother to the doctor - he was finally in such bad shape that he could not refuse. He had extreme anemia and had to be taken to the ER. After 5 units of blood, and lots of tests, he has a softball sized mass on his colon.

Tomorrow morning he is having surgery to remove it along with part of his colon. We are hopeful it was caught in time and has not spread. I will know after the surgery.

On the way to see him at the hospital on Wednesday, with Sophia, I was rear-ended at a stoplight. I got out to survey the damage, and the young kid driving the other car motioned for me to pull over into a parking lot. I got his plate, shook my head no, and as I called 911, he pulled around me and took off. They traced the car to the middle of town, and the owner (a female) said no one should have been driving it. (Right).

My Buckeyes did win the NIT though!

Greetings everyone!

Savannah is skating 5 days a week now and she now has to do some weight training because her legs are not strong enough. Wierd , I mean how strong does an 8 year old need to be?

She is having a blast, or we would be done with this.

Could the Heels make a comeback?

Kansas is flat.

Sorry to hear the news of your cousin. It is hard to lose someone but even harder in that manner.

Annette and I are in Weirton, WV just across the river from Steubanville, Ohio but drive to WDW tomorrow night.

Be safe as you travel Angie and be assured of our prayers.
