OK - ONE more post before I go to bed - the phone just rang, and I have to share my own good news (usually when the phone rings at midnight it is not always good news . . .)

Alex just called, and he got his MCAT results (Medical School Entrance Exam). He had to pass this test (they get three tries) in order to keep his seat for the medical school and enter the medical school. And, BTW, it costs over $200 each time to take it.

This was his first try.

You have to score at least average on the MCAT to be admitted to the medical school - which is a score of 24 - at least 8 on each of three sections. 45 is perfect.

Alex got a 35!

Woohooo! :thumbsup2

Now he can relax through the rest of the year, and get decent grades without worrying about getting in to the med school next year. All this at just a little over 19 years old (most take it their junior year of college - at about age 21) - he is an amazing kid, and we are very proud of him.

Had to share with my closest friends!

Grear job alex.
Just thought I'd pop in and say hi to everyone. Just been busy here. I found a cute disney tie at walmart for DH, he says he wont wear one thoe. We'll see. Brenda

That's wonderful news John! I am sure you and Amy are very proud. :cool1: When he gets to be an intern, just tell him to watch out or he'll end up in a McSteamy romance! ;)

 Hi Brenda! Good luck with the tie.

John, I just wanted to say well said on the school issue. I have had my fair share of ??? when it has come to my girls in school. Basically, I put my full trust in our schools. When I think the teaching is lacking for my child, I suppliment at home. DD12 has been in advanced classes since they were offered, but even then I had my concerns about being challenged. Believe me Lisa, the challenges will come. Ask the parents of the 8th graders who were chosen to take HS Alg this year who are complaining it is too hard!! They wanted the challenge, but are upset their child is not getting A's. :confused3 The best way to prepare your own child is to make sure they are diligent in the work they do get.

I had a friend who pulled her daughter from the public school system when an incident occured on the bus in 1st grade (the bus had 1st and 2nd graders on it). We were away at the time so DD was not on the bus. Some boys were saying some very inappropriate things to her. She yanked her out of school by the end of the week. Since that time, the Christain school she has been in hasn't been any better IMHO. It is very small so she has the same kids in her class year after year. To make it short, the boys have been no better there, but she keeps her children there anyway. SOme problem occured during the summer with the school and she wa going to take her out of there and do a group home school at her church. I just don't get the yanking all the time.

School is what you take from it. If you look at it negatively, it will be just that. We need to help where we can as many have said. I don't think private school is bad, or home schooling for that matter. Everything has its good and bad. But we must support our schools on all levels. The JH principal said last night that he is taking a positive perspective this upcoming week. The school passed 39 out of 40 sectors in the NCLB. They are getting a visit from the bigger wigs and he said they will focus on learning what they can from it instead of complaining that it is stupid. I think this is a great attitude.

That being said, the safety of our children is much different and Lisa, you should stay diligent about it! Find out what you can and help change where it is necessary.

ROFL! I can totally see DS having to go thru this. OY! They have to write out 3 pencils + 4 pencils + 7 pencils. He just wants to do 3+4 or simply 7. :)

Now that would annoy me too but I suppose it is practice with printing at the same time - but who prints anyway these days.

Our DS had a bad (yes bad) 3rd grade teacher. By the time he went into 4th his self esteem was destroyed and he was a year behind. This is a kid with above intelligence. Thankfully, he had excellent teachers the next 4 years who helped us rebuild the self esteem and get him caught up and ahead in his studies. I'll tell you, I was one frustrated parent! :furious:

Oh Angie - this is exactly my situation. He loves/loved school. HE would count the days of summer till school started back again. Now he cries to go to school. He is calling himself stupid and you can just see his frustration. I have to go above and beyond to try and build his self esteem...and this crazy teacher seems to think she is doing nothing wrong.
