That is with the 10% sibling discount for DS and the place my kids go is not even the most expensive place in town.

Daycare costs are unreal and I really don't know how most people do it. DH and I make decent money but we pay more in daycare each month than our mortgage!!!! I always said we should just live at the daycare.

Caroline you are a mad woman! That's enough stuff to be getting on with. DD is in karate and that's no problem because DH and I go with her. Other than that we have no outside activities and we are still busy all the time. :moped:

I will send my DS to preschool for 2 days a week 2.5 hours each time. It will cost $50. When I go back to work the kids will be with my mother. She will still continue taking him to preschool. I don't pay a crazy amount but if they ask me to do a fundraiser I would tell them to...... :love2: off!!!!

This is why I quit work when DD was 3 and started making quilts. The take home was about the same and I got to stay with my baby girl.

Now, of course I'm starting all over again.

Daycare is outrageous and now with the huge hike in homeowners combined with the fact that Sarasota county averages 5% behind in pay than the rest of the state really make it hard for the average person. Our homeowner's last year was $1100...since the company has been seized and no one is writing new policies we've been quoted at $4k from the state's company....OUCH!

I actually wish I could have stayed home after I had kids but unfortunately I make about twice what DH does so if anyone stayed home it would have to be DH. DH always said he would if I really wanted him to but while DH is a wonderful Dad I am not sure he would be happy being a full-time SAHD. Plus I think it would be hard on our marriage because I would be resentful that he was the one able to stay home with the kids when I was the one that really wanted to stay home. In the end we figured it was probably better for the kids to be in daycare/preschool rather than have him stay home and potentially destroy our marriage.

Why am I not suprised at the number of band geeks on this thread? ;) I guess some of us never outgrow our band "geekiness". Once a band geek always a band geek - even when you no longer have a band! :rotfl:

I am catching up on the break computer.

So I played violin, anyone else a strings nerd? I wasn't any good at it, a warm body for sure. I wanted to play the clarinet, but they gave us a test singing back notes played on a piano and that was how we were placed. And we had band/strings from 4th grade up, it was required. And in High school you had to have at least one credit in music.

I was also in the theatre group in HS, but I was props and wardrobe mistress, I like to make stuff, lol. My favourite was the rip-a-way jeans for the Greased Lighthing scene in Grease, lol.

Hmmm. I wonder how those would go with tiaras?

Patsy, you are suppose to be behaving, lol.

Also was a Girl Guide, just what they called us up here in Canada, still have a uniform hanging in the closet with all the badges and my all around cord. I loved Guides, and I am thinking about volunteering to be a leader, but as I don't have a DD, it might look kind of odd :~. Most leaders up here are DM's of troop members.

I took a pay cut when we moved here...but it was worth it to be with future DH. The pay is terrible here & once I left the job I transfered to I was left with the difficult task of finding someone willing to hire an overqualified employee. I even tried for bank tellers but was turned down because I had been the Assistant manger at a CU. OY! I actually found the perfect job thru a temp agency & loved it once I finished up that 9 week contract. ;) After 3 years on the job & a promotion from CSR for the western region salesman to handling AR (cleaning up & organizing a messed up pile of BS) I was up to $7.xx an hour and that is prime pay around these parts. :rolleyes1 It wasn't worth it for me to continue working just so that I could pay a daycare center.

Caught up and now you are all gone, lol. For all those also catching up, I caught up this morning and there were still 6 pages to read at 3 pm, lol.

Wow, now I really have to question my sanity because I'll share my high school "resume." (And for those who skipped last night's commentary, I have no musical skill, so band geek is not among my listings.) Here goes: field hockey, track, yearbook (including editor), national honor society, student council, German club, (and a year as a cheerleader and a season on the flag line for the marching band--not a good idea for someone who can't stay on beat)

PJ, DD13 plays the viola. She switched from violin after 2 years because the school really needed more than one viola in the orchestra. Now she really likes it (but likes it better when the orchestra plays a piece that violas get the good part!). Her private lesson teacher (not school instructor) was thrilled to get a viola student (he teaches all strings and mostly does violin, but since he plays viola, it was nice to get a viola student).

PJ, I think that anyone would be greatful to have you help them with a troop. With your experience, that would help the girls too. :)

I am still online even thought I finally have some work to do here. I shudder to think what will happen to the board while I am driving home and getting groceries.

Lisa, our minimum wage is approx. $8.00 an hour, even with exchange, WOW! Yes, we pay a little more in taxes, but at minimum you don't pay much, but that is sad. They should value their workforce so much more.

PJ My GS troop fizzled out because of lack of leaders at the Cadet level. There was a waiting list to be a Jr GS and I only got in because my DM was a leader herself.

I bet you would be welcomed with open arms.
