We lived in Virginia for 8 years, so I know a lot of Virginia Tech grads, making this somehow more personal. Prayers to all.

Here in NC I have been amazed at how many VT grads there are. The couple next door both graduated from there and her parents just moved from Blacksburg a few years ago. Many of the people DH works with also graduated from VT.

I have really become numb the more I read about what happened today.

Amy and I went up to Cleveland tonight to the Apple store there, after three years the hard drive finally failed in our old Powerbook, and I made a trip to the genius bar to get it confirmed, and sent off for repair.

On the way up we were talking about the events of today, and how we all want to know more details so that we can try to understand why this happened. The sad truth is that even when we get these details, we will all still wonder why this could happen.

For many parents, the thing that we all fear the most has happened to their children. It will take great faith, and lots of love and prayer to make it through such senseless tragedy.

Tomorrow night we are attending an honors ceremony at our son's college. He is being inducted into the equivalent of Phi Beta Kappa at his University. I am sure that the young people there will all be in a somber mood, as they will be at colleges and Universities around the country.

The head of the VT alumni chapter here in Portland was on the radio while I was driving home tonight. We have about 600 VT grads way up here. He talked about the school, the people that go there and the tradition and pride more than the events of today. That was nice and gave a "face" to the university up here where we don't hear too much about it. Made it a little easier to pray a personal prayer for them.

Kristina - have you talked to Caroline again because I wonder how they held up during these storms - they say the jersey shore got hit very badly.

It's been a few weeks.....

Maybe i'll call her later today.... We were going to make plans for the girls to meet up over the summer...

ALEX congrats! What a pay-off to all your hard work! Although I get the feeling that all the effort you put in to your studies will continue.

Dennis got the horns he ordered for the RV, got them put in, I found a copy of the ship's horn from CD DCL sent out on the web (ours was broken when it arrived), we got it recorded and he is working on getting the recording on the horns now! :woohoo: What fun it will be to blow that horn as we pull out! :cool1: I just heard him playing it out there! :lmao: :lmao: How much fun! :dance3:

What kind did Dennis get? I've been looking for one to put in my Impala to play the DCL horn sound. :lmao:

Please keep the victims, students, and families of Virginia Tech in your prayers today. I am horrified at what has happened there today. :(

We are all sadden by this senseless act! :sad2:

Brack, he ordered from JC Whitney. It is programable, but with only one tune. He also got one that comes with several already done sounds - including the USC fight song. :thumbsup2 That one is not installed yet. I will ask him what the name of the one is.

John and Amy,

I hope you all had a great time being the "proud parents"! I love that feeling! Can't wait to here all about it!

The dinner before (for the honor society that is akin to Phi Beta Kappa) was OK, but not well attended. We had a very nice time though, and it was an honor to see Alex recognized.

The honors convocation following was much more interesting. It was held at Stambaugh auditorium, on campus.

Had I not seen it for myself, I would not have believed this place. In the middle of the rust belt, an auditorium built in the 1920's that is an absolute delight. The place is elegant. Nearly perfect acoustics, and there was some nice chamber music before the awards. It is also right across from a park that Alex tells me you cannot go to at night without a large group and feel safe.

They did a very nice ceremony, recognizing all students from the University for academic achievement and scholarship. It was not too long, and they had a small reception afterward. A very nice evening for these kids, and a nice evening for proud parents.

Graduation in a month!

Before the honors convocation, in solidarity with all institutions of learning, there was a moment of silence for the tragedy in Virginia. There was a bit of a somber tinge to everything.

It sounds like a wonderful evening, John. You and Amy must be so proud of DS. He should be proud of himself as well.

Thanks Lisa.

All our love and prayers to those of you close to VT - tell Mike we think of him and all his friends.

Each of the girls ate one as did John. Concord, he said they were good....

Wow, V!! Tell Johnny good job there! Now the wine snobs are going to tell you that concords do not make good wine, BUT the wine we brought last Dec was concord and it is GOOD! Getting better by the month too. ;)

Brack,

The horn is JC Whitney catalog number 260350, mfg part number 375
Record A Horn - $43.99

It will sound great on the Impala. Dennis said put it close to the grill. :confused3 Um....is he going to barbeque it?

Why am I not surprised that the grape jokes have started after just a few posts?
