Welcome Back Kim!
Did I use the right smilie? I can't remember which one was hello and which one is goodbye anymore.
Mac questions for the experts:
1) What do I need for security? Do I need virus protection and a firewall?
Well - not really. I hate to tell you that, but there just are not many viruses out in the wild for a Mac. The safe answer is to say buy virus protection anyway, and use it, but for me it just seems useless on my Mac
2) Since there are certain sites that only work with IE if I put IE on this computer will it work without putting windows on? If I do put IE on does that open me up to more security issues?
No, but I would avoid IE since MS has stopped updating and supporting it - I would use firefox instead. Only use IE on the sites that Firefox or Safari will not open. IE is slow too.
3) Safari seems very weird to me. Does Firefox or something else work better?
I use Firefox at the office and Safari at home. Funny, but I do not like the Windows version of Safari, and I don't like the Firefox version for Mac. Go Figure.
4) Is there a way to keep your dashboard widgets (like clock, weather, WDW trip countdown) on the main desktop all the time? I would like to push them to the sides so I could still see them even when I am working on something else.
I don't think so, but will defer to PJ
5) Is there a "right click" option on the Macs? I know I use right click for all kinds of functions on the PC (like copy, delete, paste, etc) but right clicking on the Mac mouse didn't seem to really do anything. Do I just need to use the menus and keyboard shortcuts?
I think you can configure your mighty mouse to do this, but most right clicks are accomplished with either a command click or an "apple" click (pressing those keys as you click, and the command key is the one that looks like a cloverleaf) PJ - anything further?
General observations:
I feel so lost on the Mac. It is like learning a new language. Everything feels and looks foreign. The speed is impressive and so far I have been able to figure out a few things but I am mostly still clueless. I have been able to surf, set up my e-mail, download my photos to iPhoto and import some of my music to ITunes. Unfortunately we are going out of town this weekend so I won't have too much time to play with it over the next couple of days.
Aaron has a bit of computer envy. He can't believe we actually own a Mac and I don't think he was too thrilled with my decision at first but now that he is seeing it he is thinking that when he gets ready to replace his laptop in a few years he might have to look for a Macbook.
