I got a call early yesterday afternoon that my Dad, who has been very ill since a surgery in August, had taken a turn for the worst, was not responsive and not expected to survive. DrHug came home from work and we left for Washington State. With the long weekend traffic it took well over 4 hours to make the usually 2.5 hr drive. He had passed away before we arrived. Sad for us, but he has been in so much pain - infection into the bone in his foot from a bed sore that would not heal - and had no quality of life for all these months that it is truly a blessing for him to be in a better place. He has been home for the last few months, but only able to get up with a walker or wheelchair and get from the livingroom to the bathroom. Occasionally he would go out on the deck and sit in his chair, but mostly just in his recliner. So, we stayed up there with my stepmother and some of the family last night. We returned home late today. We will have a memorial service for him next weekend when family from other states can be here as well.
