12/04/2010 Eastern MAGIC - CHIP 'N' DALE'S CRUISIN' NUTS

We're set for Chef Mickey's this year - it will be a first for us. Other places we are going to try for the first time are Teppan Edo, Biergarten, Tony's, and Hoop Dee Doo Review.

I've not really given thought to Palos. What is REAS?

I do have our excursions for St. Thomas and St. Martin booked!

REAS
Disney Cruise Line sets the mood for passionate indulgence with its Romantic Escape Package, designed especially for couples seeking an intimate getaway. Throughout your picturesque voyage through the idyllic Caribbean or Bahamas, you'll be swept away by treats and a charming attention to detail at every turn.

Priority seating at Palo for one night and a bottle of wine from the Premium Wine List
Tropical Rainforest pass for 2 at the Vista Spa & Salon for the length of your cruise
A romantic gift amenity delivered to your stateroom (was a picture frame)
One night of special turndown service
A Champagne breakfast in bed (one morning)
The price is between 350-400. and you get to make reservations at 105 days out. ( this is great if you want the High Tea or Palo brunch) most of the brunches were taken by the time we booked at 90 days.

Biergarten is Dhs favorite. the kids like the dinner show. (the soft pretzels are my favorite!) :)
We did Teppan Edo in January, it was good, the exact same as Benihana.
havent done Tonys or HDD.. heard it is awesome!

Are you serious about most of the brunches being taken by the time you booked at 90 days? Eeeek! Did you stay up and try to book in the middle of the night when the online ressies open, or did you wait until daytime 90 days out?

I've done Palo brunch a few times and never had a problem booking. Since my DH will not be with me, there is no way I'd be doing the REAS package. So if that's the case, I hope they'll schedule additional Palo brunch times! It wouldn't be the end of the world for me if I can't do it on this sailing, but will be dreadful if my mom doesn't get to do it on our Jan. cruise. And there is no way I can leave her alone and go wait in line for a chance at a Palo brunch ressie. Bummer. :sad2:

Last year John went in at midnight... there was one brunch open....he went for dinner first, he went back 5 minutes later for brunch and it was gone. So many on our board did the Reas package ( so many were first time cruisers) . at the 75 day mark the only night Palo was open was Pirate night. I know some did get the brunch the first day on the cruise once they went to Rockin Bar D. ( also we did the Western with only 2 sea days, the Eastern has 3 sea days.) and the high Tea was long long gone!!!

So that was midnight Pacific time, at the start of the 90 days out point? I'm glad I've never encountered that problem (on the eastern or the western), but then I think all my 7-night sailings have been either late October or in January so far.

I'm just really hoping for my mom's sake on our Jan. (western) cruise. I took her on a 4-night years ago but the Wonder didn't do the brunch then so I didn't take her to Palo. She is thrilled to be going on the Magic, and is set on doing Palo brunch. Oh, well. All I can do is try. I know this will be her last cruise . . .

Our last cruise was 9/27/08 so our 90 day mark was July? John was up at midnight... since we are on EST.
if you cant get into brunch or dinner... We will add you to our table!! :) it is soo easy to add someone to your table. :) go figure!! the more the merrier!!

I can't even recall now, but isn't it midnight PST and 3 am EST? Maybe not, but it seems I did it in the middle of the night - lol.

I appreciate the offer to add me to your table if needed, but my big concern is for my January cruise with my mom, since she has never done Palo and wants to do the brunch. When I sail with you Cruisin' Nuts in December I'll be solo. Right now my dining is linked with Holly, although there is a chance she may not be able to take this vacation time due to her employer's policy on time off in Dec. If THAT happens, I may be begging for someone from this thread to link regular dining with, as it can be risky taking "pot luck" on seating assignments when one is solo. :scared1:

Shari: you are welcome to sit with us. ( we do the early dining though.) and I have 3 kids... but I promise they wont throw food. :rotfl2:

LOL - Thanks for the offer, Val. I'm not giving up on Holly quite yet though. The cruise is still over a year away and a lot can happen, so I'm hoping . . .

I don't think she wanted me to say anything, but one of the reasons she is rarely posting is because the thought of possibly not sailing with us is depressing. It's hard for her to get involved in the thread with that possibility looming on the distant horizon. I just thought I'd mention that, so you all know she hasn't simply lost interest. She has to wait and see. She needs to do whatever necessary to maintain employment of course, so I understand.

Before we booked, we considered sharing a cabin as we did on one other cruise. Right now it's a good thing we didn't, or I'd be having to search for a possible cabin-mate just a few months ahead if she couldn't make it.

We dropped out on our cruise for next month, and I know how hard it was to read the threads. :( I still wish we were going, but it is giving me something to really look forward to next year.

I know the feeling. Holly and I originally both booked (separately) on a 4-night Wonder for this December, but it didn't take long to change our minds about that and only do this Cruisin' Nuts sailing. I'm only hoping that she does still get to go on this one. It's tough to get too involved with a thread and then have to abandon it knowing all your "thread friends" are sailing without you. She was the one who came up with the "Chip 'n' Dale's Cruisin' Nuts" theme (the title), so it's sad that she isn't up to participating in the pre-cruise fun. But I hope she won't drop out unless it becomes absolutely necessary.

Jenngoofys - We are there before you are. From 11/14th - 11/21st. And, by the way, I'm jealous about you getting Sci-Fi. I had wanted to try that. It looks so unique & cool. But our DDs are not very brave - I recently took them to a theater and they cried the whole time. So in the interest of tear prevention I decided we'll have to wait a few years to try it. On our DHS day we are going to try the 50s Prime Time Cafe this year.

Oh Im sorry you wont be able to do Sci Fi but 50's Prime Time is a great themed place to eat. Make sure you keep your manners lol. You get told to keep elbows off the table, napkins in your lap, finish your dinner or no dessert LOL and many other things from "Uncle Tim, or Aunt Sue" and many others. It is so much fun. Oh and dont use your cell phones inside lol you dont want to get it taken away ;)

Chef Mickeys is a must for us but sadly had to give it up for this trip to get Le Cellier which is the hardest to get into (or so it seems).

Over all I am very happy with my ressies :)

It's Friday, and, after reading the last few posts, seems like the happy mood has dipped a little, so I thought I'd post a little pick me up. Here's a pic of me and Donald Duck at Disneyland from my trip last month.

Cute pic!

As for restaurants - I love the food and atmosphere at both Sci-Fi and 50s Prime Time. However, I often find Prime Time to be the scariest - lol. Even though it's all in fun, the sarcasm of some of the servers (which is how they are supposed to be) can get to me after awhile. But most people thrive on that and if you do, it can be great fun. Happy Friday everyone!! ( it is rainy and miserable)... the first time we had rain in the am for the kids.. but not a big deal.. .just driving to the bus stop instead!! good day to take a nap.. shhhh and bake cookies!

We did the Sci Fi on our honeymoon. I remember it being cool, but that was soo long ago.

My son all ready has a list of what "treats" he wants to buy... a mini winnie the pooh, tigger, and the list goes on and on.

Great pics. Guess what I called again today and I got Chef Mickey's for Thanksgiving Dinner!!!! Im so excited I could burst. I figured I'd give it a second try just incase and I got it!:banana: My family is so happy:)

Jenn---:banana: how fun for your family!! :) (I am not the hugest fan of the food, but the atomsphere is my favorite there.) I love being able to see the monorail pass through. :) and last year it must not have been super busy... the characters spent sooo much time at our table.
Cute story: my son had his mini Donald doll with him. Mickey spotted a Mickey doll and started chasing/teasing Donald with it... well Donald spotted Johns doll and ran over and grabbed it... and started tauning Mickey, they went back and forth for 5 minutes. all the kids were cheering and clapping. John thought it was sooo cool since it was his doll. ( and Goofy and Pluto were taunting each other too.) it was an awesome night. ;) and the best part was we were over an hour late. ( we got stuck in major traffic last year.. and there were no problems at all.)

Val - That's why since I've never had kids, I've always enjoyed carrying Pal Mickey or a chipmunk beanie or some other little character plush. It gives the characters something to play with and makes for much more interaction. So whether child or grown-up, it makes the experience more fun. Even being an adult without kids, I am so into the characters that I won't settle for a "wave and walk-by" from them!

Wow sounds like you had so much fun!! As far as the food I just go for the Parmesean mashed potatoes LOL I swear they add alfredo sauce to them lol. I had hoped for Mickey's for Thanksgiving because its close to MK and because it has everything you can think of for food lol and we can ride the monorail. :drinking1:drinking1
