Oh, my, Deb - It sounds like you've had a VERY stressful year! Next year is bound to be better, and let's hope your new job will be the foundation of a beautiful new start.

Long story -
Only for those curious about the details: Mickey's 'Twas the Night Before Christmas was the major problem for us at
MVMCP. Of course it was where we headed the moment we arrived at MK after Epcot. They were already well into the seating process for the first show, but we decided to go in anyway. It looked like there were lots of available seats. Everywhere we went, people were "saving" (not allowed) multiple seats, sometimes as much as for 8 people! I'm sorry, but all those people were NOT in the restroom together. They HAD to be out enjoying rides and attractions. Cast Members did nothing about the situation, even when people reclined their full body length across a bench to save it. So we went back out and stood "front of the line" area to wait for the next show, while others packed in standing room only like sardines in a can.
But before the next show, it was announced to us all that a performer was ill and the next show (or maybe ALL the scheduled performances) may not happen. There were a lot of upset guests, including us, but we stood our ground and waited just in case. I'll just say here that the ill performer was THE star of the show, and they had NO SPARE, so getting a replacement was close to impossible, but the 9 pm show was supposedly going to happen. We'd been chatting with a CM and after all that happened I asked him if he was going to personally escort us to our seats - LOL. He did. We were right behind the VIP center row. When a BIG man and his companion jumped the rope block and planted themselves in the VIP row in front of us and I asked that same CM if they were VIPs, he spoke to his manager and moved US to the VIP row. Only problem there was a guy in a baseball cap in front of Holly. The show was good, but I'd swear they had cut at least one song. Maybe it was my imagination.
By the time we got out of there (having spent 3 and a half hours in the process of seeing ONE show!), we went to get hot cocoa and cookies at Tomorrowland Terrace while the fireworks were going on. Couldn't really see the fireworks much from our spot, but enjoyed the changing lights on the castle.
Then it was already time to stake a spot for the LAST Christmas parade! We went to Exposition Hall, grabbed a couple of chairs from outside Tony's, and waited. A man with his wife and strollered kid plopped a tray full of melted ice cream garbage right by by feet and they left the park. A VERY NICE man nearby was as shocked as we were. He promptly carried the tray to the nearby trash bin. We watched the parade and we left after letting a few thousand "guests" swarm out before us.
The Big Issues: It appears that Disney has gone from limiting the party to what used to be 20 or 30 thousand to what now appears to be 60 or 80 thousand. Really. It was sold out, but they were encouraging guests already in the park to buy party tickets. It was unbelievable. It's my guess there were also a few thousand "lurkers" from earlier in the day who did not pay. The wristband thing is far from foolproof.
Performers: HOW can they assume that "the head cheese" will never get sick? How can they NOT have an understudy/spare standing by at all times for that role? They KNEW that the status of the show depended on it. They took their chances and blew it. We were not the only ones who said that show was what we came for. (I had asked Holly if she wanted to forget it and go do the rest of the party, but the crowds were so bad it was rather pointless.)
Let's Not Offend The Guest: This policy of Disney's is getting worse every day! Why make rules or have policies - no saving seats, no wheeled skate shoes, no diaper changing on restaurant seats and tables (I've seen BOTH!), no PILING people on rented
ECVs, etc. - if you're not going to enforce them? I understand trying to be polite, but their efforts not to offend the offensive guests are to the detriment of the MAJORITY of guests. That does not make sense to me. Personally, I think they let everything slide due to cowardice. They need to avoid confrontations, but it's at the expense of all the non-offending guests!
I am SO sorry that Holly paid so much for an event ticket (at my passholder rate) and only saw one show, had cocoa and cookies once, and saw the parade. We went NOWHERE else in the park. The only good thing was that it didn't rain!
I've been to MVMCP at its best and its worst as to performances, weather, crowds, etc. MVMCP has been a tradition for me. The magic is still there, but cutbacks, higher prices, unbearably larger crowds and possibly canceled shows are making it not really worth the money. I'm glad I was able to experience it the way it was in the past. I only wish Holly could have. The only good thing about that day was our time at Epcot.
P.S. - I posted this here instead of doing a "report" elsewhere because I just don't want to get involved with thousands of responses - LOL.
