119.00 AKL -- good deal?-UPDATE

is that legal???????

It doesn't seem right to present that rate and then tack on tickets without specifying that it is a package up front! Especially when they show you the room rate per night and the average rate per night without any footnotes.

that not just tricky... it's wrong.

I agree. If you have checked the "hotel only" button, there's no reason they should be displaying a hotel rate that is only available as part of a package. I'm a very "reserved happy" to have been able to book it room-only, though. I'm figuring there's a chance they may tell me it was a mistake and not honor it.

It doesn't seem to be just the winter package that is doing it either. for kicks I checked out the rate for the regular value season rates on there, and the same thing happens, except that the cost is even higher since it's not the discounted dream maker package... just the regular package.

It's weird, because at the top of the hotel listing page they have a choice for hotel and ticket packages that you could choose IF you wanted a package, so you would think that the room rates below would be room only reservations, but it doesn't seem to be so, even for the non-discounted room rates....

Has anyone tried to book any kind of room only rate at a Disney hotel lately on Expedia???? Were you able to book it as a room only?

I can't get anything listed closer than the Wyndham. No Disney property is shown for my dates at all! Go for it...:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I just checked Expedia again and they are still allowing AKL to be booked room-only at this rate for stays over a week. Apparently they have not yet noticed the mistake?!?

I booked WL at $134 for 9 nights on Expedia last night. We were originally booked 8 nights for CBR with Disney, but thought it was worth it to add one night and upgrade. Spoke to 2 customer service agents at Expedia to verify I would get my rate. They said yes. Not a glitch, Expedia said that after 8 nights, can't book with the passes because it's too big of a package. (Disney says otherwise and quoted me double with the UPH!) A Disney Cast member gave me a hard time when I tried to cancel CBR with them, told me they can't guarantee any travel agents rates, including any requests, such as my crib! Called Expedia back and verified my rate, made sure they weren't tacking on UPH and he gave me his name to verify. Expedia said I have nothing to worry about. Said WL should already have my faxed reservation. So, relax, they are reputable and they will honor your rate!

I just went and tried to put in a 9 night stay and it DID tack on the UPH. Disney must have made sure Expedia fixed the glitch.

It must depend on the dates as well - the dates given by the OP are still available for room only.

I plugged in my dates the same day as the OP. We are staying 9 nights in December and it automatically added the passes on even then. Doesn't make much sense, does it?

dparksfan -- thanks for checking on this! I was a little afraid to call them for fear they would "take away" my reservation. I have just let out the breath I've been holding! lol ;)

I don't know why some dates work and some don't. Not to mention the discrepancies between what Expedia and Disney say.

Don't dispair! Just check in as early as you can and ask (very nicely ;) ) for an upgrade. I was upgraded to a Savanah View from a Standard View :). We paid the same rate, $119, and we requested a non-smoking bunk bed room. We were a l l t h e w a y d o w n the hall at the end of the Kudu Trail, but it was worth the walk!

robinb -- thanks for the tip. I would absolutely LOVE savannah view, but will also be happy just to be there at all (and am hoping not to have "roof view" lol). ;)

for Jan 10-18th/19th either way it tacked on the uph tickets. I tried several different hotels as well. I wonder why it's working for some and not others.

I got the rate of $134 at WL (woodsview, which I didn't know is an upgrade?) Just checked and I can still do it, Feb 6-15 are my dates. By the way they've added all the moderates and values, which were not there when I booked it 2 nights ago! Maybe it's a February thing, before the cutoff of the 11th?

jcemom,

thank you for your help too, if I hadn't seen your original post, I wouldn't have checked my rates and added a night. Never stayed at WL, very excited...Enjoy your trip to AKL!

I was going to book that deal, but I heard (from another travel agent at mouseears) that Expedia was running a deal that was not being honored by Disney.

Instead, I made the reservation through WDW. They told me if a better deal came out, I could just call and get the discount.

I don't know. Expedia is a very reputable online agency. While I thought this may have been an error that they (Expedia) would notify me of, I find it hard to believe that Disney wouldn't honor the pre-paid reservation. The way I see it now, I have plenty of time to wait and see what happens.

Just an aside note, I booked my airline tickets through Expedia last December, they charged my credit card, and then I found out from them 5 days later that the airline did not honor the reservation, as the flight was full. I had to rebook at a higher rate, and wait for my credit card to be credited. The airline told me to never book my airfare through an online travel agency if I didn't want the risk of that happening again. I'm lucky I found a reasonable flight for my date, as it was a somewhat spur of the moment trip, and waiting those 5 extra days didn't help.

TheresaNJ -- thanks for the info. It's something to keep in mind. Though I don't know if overbooking a flight and booking a resort are quite the same.

I just contacted Expedia, as I wanted to change my room preference request, and was told no problem and that my reservation and money had been received and reservation was confirmed by AKL.

dparksfan -- I noticed that the other resorts have been added.
