Man!
We knew to expect 2-300 for getting it ready for the road....but this is hard to take! I only have 52,000 mi on it, and requiring a full tune-up, and I can't even think straight on all the other things suggested! I doubt it will be ready by this evening so now we will have a 3 hour ride to SIL for T-Day in DH's car.....which will be tight. Kids were hoping we'd cram the 9' tv/vcr in the van and hook up the game cube(never done that B4, TV takes up too much room, hard to secure it)so I guess this answers that question....
Good thing we decided to drive to Fl for Xmas to see my folks instead of booking the 1100 airfare/ 500 rental car....we would really be in some serious debt.
Well, life goes on,
HAPPY THANKSGIVING ALL!
On the up side....I won't be able to hit the Black Friday sales, so I can sleep in!:p

I know how you feel. We spent about $800 getting our van ready for our road trip to WDW last month but I felt much better when I sat down and thought it through. We would easily have spent at least that on airfare and rental car and still had the expense of car repairs when we got back. We have only one automobile so we have to keep it in good running condition. At least you'll know that your van will be in good shape after the repairs and, hopefully, will last you for several more trips.

If you were sizing up an urgent car repar versus a 1100 airfare (entire family) plus rental car $500 ... could you find a zero airfare plus $500. rental car?

Namely rent the car fro your home city, you're driving down anyway. Airport locations generally have better rates than the nearest hotel rental car desk.

Could you find a rental car in your ome city with unlimited mileage plus no geographical restriction?

Granted ou still have to do the car repairs but at leat it wont be ashectic getting th appointment in the repair shop.

seashoreCM,
Yeah, we checked into renting a few weeks back, but it was going to run over $1,000 for a van for 2 weeks..I tried every code, ent. book, etc. I had --but Xmas week is a major black out time for a lot of codes. My neighbor is a travela gent and she did her best for us....but no luck. We got the bill down to $890...and they had it ready last night. We were pleased(and surprised!) about that. SO, we are driving the newly repaired van. Thanks for the suggestion tho...always nice to put the wear/tear on a rental instead of your own car!

Bring it on, baby!!!!:teeth: :teeth: :teeth: Actually, I guess the Fins play much better with only a few days off in between....I look forward to Sunday!
