11 year old dies after riding space mountain

I agree. Some people are just very sensitive.

That's certainly true, but I think in this case it was good that airforcewife changed the headline.

Remember, lots of people only read the headlines and maybe the first 2 or 3 posts of a long thread, and a few misinformed folks are all that's needed to perpetuate an untruth. After all, the person who originally told airforcewife the story had gotten it mighty wrong, which is why she posted here to clarify in the first place!

I wonder what kind of respiratory problems this poor kid had. I'm not the morbid type that likes to hash over the gory details of a tragedy (I'd rather forget the whole thing ever happened, if only I could), but since the girl had some sort of ailment that was fatal after several rides on Space Mountain, it would be prudent to find out what it was so others with the same ailment will know that it's not safe to ride multiple times.

It is so sad and such a tragedy. But the fact is that many, many people have gone on that ride through the years with no problem. Another fact is that sad incidents like this are happening somewhere in the world at any given moment. So it is likely that with all of the people going through the parks every year, a sad incident like this is going to occur every so often. Not that it diminishes in any way the loss of this young girl.

My heart goes out to the family on the loss of their child.

I don't know what anyone else had wrote, but I'm gonna make my comment.

There is NO theme park in the world that NOONE has died at. And if the kid did die based on what you said, it's not disney's fault. There was something wrong with the kid in the first place.

Thanks WillCAD and Thank you airforcewife for making the change. MS has had a very rocky start with rumors of illness and death almost since they opened it. All of the examples have proven to be either exaggerated or just plain false. Disney invested a LOT of money in MS and it wouldn't surprise me that they will think long and hard before doing it again considering the problems they have had with what has been described as a mini panic. It would take less time to actually fly to Mars than to read all the "warnings" posted before hand.

I rode it and was absolutely in awe of the technology and how it was adapted to be used as a theme park ride. I had mild effects but nothing like what I have experienced on most old carnival rides. In fact the teacups are way more of a problem then MS. So all that being said, yes, I may be over sensative but I want to see WDW continue to grow and experiment and invest. Real problems need to be pointed out and fixed but rumor, especially unsubstantiated rumor needs to be taken with a grain of salt and corrected when possible. Thanks again.

There is no connection in any of the articles between the girl's respiratory/ pulmonary history and her death (or for that matter between the girl's riding space mountain and her death). For those that jumped to conclusions, if the article would have said the girl was wearing glasses, would you have thought that was a contributing factor? I'm sure millions of people with a history of asthma have ridden space mountain numerous times and lived to tell about it, so don't assume that this poor girl's parents were negligent in letting her ride a roller coaster. Her death could have been caused by an unknown heart problem, a food allergy or bee reaction, or any of a number of things.

If anyone jumped to the conclusion, it was because the article stated that the hospital said the child had pulmonary/respiratory problems that could have contributed to the her death, so lets all play nice here!:)

I wasn't thinking of anyone's post, in particular, but I don't think that anyone should suggest that those poor parents intentionally put their child's life in danger. Think what they must be going through.

That was interesting how the article mentioned the child's history of respiratory illness without actually establishing it as a contributing factor in her death. Hmm.
