Just back from Florida
During are stay at Hard Rock Hotel on June 10th are van was broken into. I discovered the broken window when I took a few things out to the van, we were checking out that day. Soon two employees showed up and told me that 10 vans/suvs were broken into (later I was told that 11 were broken into). They asked if anything was taken, which I did not find anything yet. I was told by the employees that usually the thieves just look quickly for tvs. I did not have a tv in the van but whoever was in it looked threw everything, glove compartment was emptied to floorboard, two Mickey watches were in it: the side pockets of my cooler were emptied (just tea bags) ect. These thieves took there time looking threw my van and had 10 other vehicles to go threw also.
Hard Rock Hotel said they would vacumn my van out, which they did. I was told I would have to stay at the hotel until the police showed up (they had been there but just left). I asked what my children were to do that we were to check out at 11, it was about 10:15 at this time. they said we could stay in our room.
While I waited for my van to be vacumned, I asked an employee how often cars have been robbed. He said about 3 or 4 times and that they went over a month with no break-ins once. This hotel has not been open very long, February I think was the opening.
I waited and waited for the police to show back up. We recieved a call from the front desk wondering why we had not left. They had no idea that we were told to stay in the room. I then decided to get the luggage in the van and wait in the lobby (after being broken into no one wanted to hang out at the pool). I asked one of the employees whom I think was helping with the vacumning when we could leave. His responce was something like, "Why havent you left already". I told him the police had not shown up. He then said he would check on it. About 15 minutes later he told me the police were not coming back and that I could phone in my report. We were tired and hungry at this point, wish we would have knowned we could call in 4 hours ago.
I then pulled to the front of the hotel to load our luggage. One of the many bell/valet employees told me I could not park there (broken windows covered in plastic dont look good in front of the hotel). I then got this feeling that the only reason the hotel was so willing to get the vehicles to the service area to vacumnn was to get them out of sight. As we were loading the van a police officer did show up, and by know three vehicles that were broken into were at the front of the hotel loading luggage.
As we sat in the lobby, doing the report the manager came over and asked if anyone would like a some water. Hmmm, Water. I felt speecchless.
I was told that Hard Rock plans to get a guard at the gate. I think they need to only allow only Hotel guest to park at the hotel. I had a very hard time finding a parking spot . In fact, many cars were parking in non designated spots due to lack of parking. A parking ticket is given upon entry for those at Citywalk(??) to have validated. Is'nt there other parking for City walk?
If only Hotel guest could enter the parking lot maybe it would not be so easy for 11 cars to be broken into. I also questain how none of the Bell/Valet parking attendents did not here 11 cars being broken into. Did'nt car alarms go off? Well maybe they did here something, I do not have the police report yet.
I think the worse part of the whole incident was feeling of being on our own at the hotel. The only comfort we were offered while waiting 4 hours for the police was water. I was surpriced when they actually brought botteled water, at this point I figures water in a paper cup.
A couple of days later, I recieved a message on my cell phone that Loews would pay the cost of the window repair and that I would receive something from HRH. HRH sent a coupon for 1 nights stay in the next year. My childrens responce was, " Mom, 1 free night and have the window broken again?".
We are not planning on going to Disney for another two years but I was told that we could extend the certificate to 2 years. Maybe I will let the older children stay HRH, I
(18, 20 and 21 by then) and I will stay at OLd Key West where my van feels safer (I will drop the kids off at the hotel).
