We bought into SSR at the beginning of Sept. We are going back next Sept. so we will book at the 11 month mark for SSR. Now I'm thinking that maybe I might want to stay at VWL. I know I can try to book at 7 months and more than likely be put on the waiting list. What happens then?
I read a few things about reservation points, are these to be diregarded?

if you made a reservation at a NON-dvc resort (like GF) and then canceled, the points would remain in "reservation status" and could not be used at a DVC resort.

it doesn't apply in your case if you are trying to switch between DVC resorts (from SSR to VWL.)

if/when there is availability for VWL, you can cancel your SSR reservation and apply the points toward VWL. not sure what else you're asking...:confused3

You may very well get into VWL for September when you book at 7 months out without going on a wait list. I hope that's what happens, and that you enjoy a great stay at VWL!

A DVC point becomes a reservation point when it is taken out of DVC per se and slated to be used for somehing in the Disney collection, like for a room at the Poly, or for a DCL cruise. If you cancel the first thing you book, those points must still be used for the Disney collection, the points cannot be used for DVC stays.

I don't think we'll be staying in anything mentioned in the Disney Collection except perhaps a short cruise after our stay. But at least I understand it a little better now. When we were signing the papers the day we bought, our guide said that we should not have any problem getting where we want in Sept. Kinda reminded me that it was part of the sales pitch....

In this case, as long as you call at the 7 month mark, I agree with the guide. :)

You shouldn't have a problem getting into one of the smaller DVC resorts for a September vacation. September is one of the easier months to book DVC resorts at 7 months.

But we're glad you checked!

Congratulations and welcome home!

Welcome to the DVC Forums, too!
