Was getting ready to purchase points from another member.

Needed them in my BWV account for 11 month res. window.

He thinks that since his points are from a different resort; I can't use my 11 month window to book...but would be bound by his!!!

Will check with MS in a.m. but, this didn't occur to me.

Any personal experience to relate?

Transferred points are supposed to retain their original home resort status. In reality, they often assume the same home resort status of the contract into which they were transferred. HOWEVER ... if you are depending on using them at 11 months, it might be safest to have only BWV points transferred- as it could depend on the efficiency/attitude of the CM you deal with when calling for the reservation.

Good luck!

Every transfer I received this past year kept its original resort status. I had some OKW points transferred into my VWL account and Member Services knew what kind of points they were. So I think they are getting better at tracking them.

MS today verified that I could use the points (BCV) in my BWV contract next month for 11-month availability...

ONLY, because we have the same UY????

Yesterday, 2 different guides told me that the UY didn't matter (as long as the points were good/banked, etc.) for the dates I needed to book.

Although it works out for me, I find it discouraging that the issue is subject to interpretation.

Additionally, when I called minutes after the seller made the transfer; the guide could spot the points in my account, including where they came from.

I agree that it is wrong that it is subject to interpretation. I also think it is wrong that the points can ever change their home resort status. Just think about all the VB or HH points that could be used to reserve at the 11 month window for any WDW resort if this were to be true (as just one example).

I agree with you. I think it is wrong that the home resort gets changed on a transfer. In fact, if it happens often enough, I think DVC could be in violation of Florida law - in effect, they would be selling more time than they have the capacity to serve.

Best wishes -

If this is the case, I wonder if a member with two contracts (SSR & BWV) could transfer points from one to the other??? :confused3

Doubt Member Services would transfer points in this case - no legitimate reason to transfer between contracts owned by the same member unless the member was making a DVC reservation within the 7 month window or a non-DVC reservation (cruise, non-DVC WDW resort, II deposit first, etc.).

Best wishes -
