This is interesting as we just posted about purchasing two contracts....150 points each, at two sites. Now here is a really intriguing question for you all: we live about 3-4 hours away, and when we decide to go, we just go. So the issue of 11/7 we had not really thought much about. Is this gonna be a big problem in that we will have these points and not be able to stay in our DVC because we don't plan WAY ahead? What about a month or so ahead and what are the chances of a week ahead? Never in really busy seasons, as we understand those might be problematic, but will it always be like this? Whoa! What a dilemna.

Thanks for all your help!

It can definitely be an issue. DVC is better for those who can make ressies well in advance. Members have reported being able to get things late but then others have reported the opposite. In other words you may have success and you may fail in getting anything. Also, 60 days or less before a date you are not just competing with other DVC members because beginning 60 days before any date Disney can rent rooms otherwise available to DVC if members have not reserved them by that time. Finally, you mention about not going during busy seasons. That does not really change the equation. Busy seasons for DVC are turning out to different than regular Disney. For example, October through Mid-December are high DVC demand times although they are low seasons for Disney in general. On the opposite spectrum, many summer weeks are lower DVC demand times while they are high Disney in general times.

We just had to change our ressies and we were able to get either OKW or VWL (1bdr) for July 22-Aug 2. We changed them on June 28 so that's a little less than a month out.

I haven't got any actual figures to back it up but it seems as if it shouldn't be a problem to get close to the date reservations if you are flexible. If you have some leeway in type of accomodation and/or which resort you'll most likely make out okay most of the time. 30 days out is the drop dead date for cancellations so calling then may be a good time to snag reservations.
